Complex was quite, clean, secure, and had great parking. Condo was very nice and had a great layout. The cleaning crew could do a little better. Mold around bath faucets, ceiling fans has large dust bunnies, and everything needed a dusting. The owner has a great condo just needs a new cleaning crew. Complex pools were very nice and everything was pictured correctly. Awesome beach

Owner response: Thanks Cynthia, glad you enjoyed place and pools. And thank for the heads up on the cleaning crew, we'll attend to that immediately. Come back to our beach anytime!
We recently returned home after staying for a week in this unit. My experience was fair, however, once we returned home it got very interesting Our initial issue with the condo was there was no top sheet or blanket for the pullout couch. Although we've never had this issue in the past, we went and bought these items for the week. Next, the place wasn't the cleanest, so we went ahead cleaned it when we initially arrived. Everything in the condo (outside of the kitchen appliances) needs to be updated. It's very outdated and the life expectancy of those items has expired. Next we realized the light bulb went out in the bathroom fan. So we called the owner to fix this. He said during the phone conversation that it would be $35 to send a person out and that if I would get light bulbs and fix it, he would deduct it from out bill. This is where it all gets interesting, after we returned home, the owner credited us $15 for taking the fan apart and buying new bulbs. After my wife emailed back and forth over this lousy $20, the owner tells us we're trying to extort money from him. Now, given the fact that it's a measly $20 and we're only asking for what he said he would credit us. I wouldn't say that's extortion. That's where we called it quits with the entire situation. If the owner needs this $20 then I say let him keep it. Maybe he'll invest in the condo....it could use it!!! One other note, the owner is selling the condo. So you will deal with agents calling your cell wanting to show the property while you are wanting to enjoy your stay. We dealt with multiple showings with no warning from the owner....just an agent making a random call to the renters. Who does business this way??? The hilarity in it all is 4 more light bulbs went out while we were there and I wasn't about to call the owner or pay for anymore light bulbs. To me, that was the greatest testament to the lack of attention the place received. It's the little details that make for a pleasurable experience. I would not recommend not just this condo, but any condo Kerry rented. He is not someone I would trust to ensure your stay for the week is an enjoyable one. On the positive side, I did meet a lot of great folks at the complex and a couple of other Sugar Beach owners who agreed that the light bulbs going out in abundance is just an owner who really isn't interested in providing a great experience for the guest.

Owner response: Whew, where do you start. A light bulb was out on a Saturday, and I mentioned that I would have to pay a maintenance person $35 to come and change it, and he would not be able to change it until Monday. Figuring they could change a light bulb, I offered to pay for the bulb and also pay them $10 to change something that I would change myself if I were a guest, and have it done at my convenience and immediately. I did what I offered and payed them $15 for the bulb and to put it in. The wife (who wrote the review) told me that if I didn't pay them $35 as I would the maintenance man they would give me a bad review. I call that extortion, but here is her review. Take it with a gain of salt please. We do everything we can to make our guest comfortable and have an enjoyable stay. That is the promise will make to you and every guest. If you ever have a question or problem, please give us an opportunity to make it right. We appreciate constructive criticism, as it will help us make our next guest stay better.
SMALL BUT NICE
SMALL BUT NICE
We stayed a week at this condo and it was just okay. The location is great. It is very close to restaurants and shopping. The details state that this would sleep 6 but personally I wouldn't recommend any more than 2 people. It is very small. We had 2 adults and 2 teenagers. There is no where to sit and watch tv except the sofa (which only sits 3 comfortably). We had to bring in chairs from the balcony. It just seemed a bit to cramped for us. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable. We did take the comforter from upstairs and put down on it and it seemed to help a little. The bed upstairs was very comfortable. The upstairs is much hotter than the down stairs. If you run the fan on high it does help some. The shower down stairs is very small and so dark. I does not have a light in there so you are basically taking a shower in the dark and cannot move around much. All 4 of us had to share the shower upstairs. That bathroom was nice but small too. The kitchen was upgraded and loved all the new appliances and the blender for making frozen drinks. There was a table and 2 bar stools which just seemed to be in the way. With the sofa bed pulled out, you could not get around it to get to the kitchen. My least favorite thing was the noise factor. I know these condos are older but there is not a bit of insulation in the walls. While upstairs, we could hear every word that was said downstairs. Overall, the upgrades are nice. The security guards made us feel safe and we loved the covered parking (nice cool car). Loved the location and the short walk to the pools and beach. The Sugar Shack was convenient also. The condo was somewhat clean but not super clean. The tile floor was covered in sand and felt sticky. We tried to sweep but the groves in the tile made it hard to get it up. We had to wear our shoes the entire time. Maybe a small floor vacuum would help.I would recommend this condo to a couple. If you have more than 2 people you may want to consider the fact of how small this condo really is. The owner was very prompt in answering any questions and easy to work with.

Owner response: I'm very sorry the condo was smaller than you expected and hope it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. We did have an AC tech come in an he found that the filter needed to be changed, which solved the problem. A vac would be a good idea to leave, and we have one there next trip to Ala. Glad you liked the upgrades and hope come back to Orange Beach next year.
We had a wonderful visit, in fact we enjoyed the beach and location so much that my husband wants to make this our spot when we go for a beach vacation. Lots to do and if you just want to do the beach,, it is perfect for that. As far as the condo, I will say this. It had everything that we needed. I read all the reviews and I could not help but notice the owner added a lot of what his renters suggested. For example there is now a baby gate and a tv in the bedroom, these are just a few that I noticed. In my opinion it was clean, was it perfectly clean, no, but it was clean. I looked at several places and most were over priced. Once we were at the condo and drove down the street I seen several of the other places we checked out. You can pay a lot more for a place to stay and maybe get a tad more fancy on the accommodations but the way we see it. Is the location good, yes it was great. Was the place clean and safe, yes it was both clean and safe. Did we have everything that we needed, yes we did. And did we have a few things extra to make it nice, ie big screen tv, fireplace, really nice blender, yes we did. So even though there is a review or two that was not so good, we would say that it really just depends on the type of person you are. We are not fancy fancy people, but we are clean and want things to be pleasant. We were there to be outdoors and have fun. The condo was a nice place to come back to and relax. Best thing the owner was quick to respond and willing to help with whatever we needed the best he could and that goes a long way in my book. We will be coming back.

Not for us!
Not for us!
This condo receives really high ratings (which was why I rented it) so I'd like to add my point of view. We have been going to Gulf Shores for over 20 years and we have stayed in a variety of places--houses, hotels, condos. We've rented through Meyer, Kaiser, Young Suncoast, and VRBO, and this was our LEAST FAVORITE place we have ever stayed. To be clear--we usually travel as a family and rent much larger accomodations. This trip was just my husband and I, but we were still very disappointed. Let me start with the actual condo--Sugar Beach. It mostly reminds me of a mens prison--the whole building is dark inside, concrete everywhere. We were greeted as we walked to our condo by a door being held open with a toilet bowl brush, water standing on the floors (flooded!), no handles on one door, HOLES punched in the concrete where plumbing work was done and never fixed, and this correctional facility feel. So right away, I knew I wasn't going to love it. I don't like feeling like I'm walking in a prison. The inside of the condo isn't bad--it's VERY small, but the decor is decent. But the bed was AWFUL--it is billed as new, but I'm not sure how thats possible as it is very uncomfortable and the sheets set on it (Polyester, $8 at Wal-mart--I know because we went and bought a $40 set of our own to use instead!) was wearing thin and felt yucky. Also, the air blows cold downstairs, but just can't cool the loft where the main bed is, so we ended up sleeping on the sofa (which has only a sheet--no blankets, no pillows, no extra covers/bedding for anything, so bring your own!) I had to buy a 3 inch thick memory foam pad to put on top of the sleeper sofa to make it comfortable. And then there was cleanliness. I wasn't overall impressed with the level of "Clean" this condo had--there was gunk in the upstairs sink, water standing on the counter, hairs on the rugs, a mop head under the main bed, a random phone cord in the hall closet downstairs (glad we didn't bring kids!), a random tag string in the kitchen sink, and the clean towels were sitting on top of a dirty sponge! There is a great flat screen downstairs, but no dvd player for it--it is on the tiny tv upstairs. Parking is tight if you drive an SUV and you have to pay an additional $20 to park, FYI. And the upstairs bathroom is TINY, and we aren't big people. Pros--the security was great, very nice. The owner was pleasant and prompt. The Sugar Shack was cool. Pools, beach, great. We wouldn't stay again, though

Owner response: We try to please, that is why we usually get high ratings. First, we do not own Sugar Beach, only one townhouse in it. I agree sometimes the maid services do awkward things, like use something they own to keep doors open while they clean. Fortunately, this is not the case with our condo. As for the dark hallways, I like the idea of a shaded, cool entrance, and yes it is concrete, with carpeting down the middle. Most buildings in Orange Beach are made of concrete I believe. Personally, I don't feel this is a "prison" environment. If it is, then all the condos along the Gulf could be classified as prisons. I know first hand that water does not remain in the hallways, even after a deluge. I also have no idea about the unfinished plumbing you refer to, but have reported it to management. Sugar Beach is kept up very well and the management is both responsible and responsive when there are any problems. The beds are fairly new, and the maid service provides fresh, clean sheets and towels for every stay. We have extra pillows and blankets in each closet, and if any have been removed, we will gladly replace them if notified. We found no mop heads under the bed, nor random phone lines in the closet, and do not leave any sponges behind if we can help it. We do not control the size of parking spaces, which are regulated in size by city ordinance. The covered parking, and 24-hours security is provided at a fee of $20 for the pass, payable to the condo association. We're very sorry the accommodations were not up to your expectations, and hope you still enjoyed your stay and that you will find the perfect place for your future visits.
Bad first impression
Bad first impression
Upon arrival we walked into an UNCLEAN condo. We arrived 1 1/2 hours after check in time. There must have been a mix up with the cleaning schedule. We had to wait an hour for someone to show up to clean. The ower told us to go take in the sites or asked if we had something we wanted to do while waiting. However, we had already unpacked the car and all our stuff was on a cart in the condo. We didn't want to leave our stuff out while they came. When you walk in on an unmade bed, wet towels piled on the floor, food left in the refrigerator and an unflushed toilet, the first impression has totally been ruined! Also, information on the condo said it would sleep 4-6 people. There is a queen bed and a sofa sleeper. I don't know where 6 people would sleep! Also, the pictures lead you to believe you have a view of the ocean, which is really not true.

Owner response: Check in time is 4pm, and our guest arrived early, not 1 1/2 hours after check in as the remark indicates. I am very sorry they beat the maids into the condo and wish they had not seen the mess that needs to be cleaned up after previous visitors vacate. We did try to make the best of the situation and suggest they take time to get groceries and give the maids a change to do their job and make the property ready for their stay. We try to represent the property with as many pictures and captions as possible, and even have comments on the view from the balcony indicating as best we can. The picture from the balcony is a true view and is what you can expect to see, and not misrepresented. The townhouse is designed to sleep at least 4. Two in each of the beds, but often guest bring smaller children who double up or sleep with them, or bring air mattresses to accommodate extras. We state, sleeps 4, or 6 if you are "real good" friends. Please look the information and pictures over well, and call us if you have any questions, or need more details or info about anything.
We were very comfortable with our recent stay at the Sugar Beach condominiums. There were just a few minor things to mention, such as, the patio sliding door was very difficult to open, and the downstairs shower was in need of a light above it. I'm certain that two new rollers for the patio door would make it slide like new. It may be a little bit more difficult to put a light fixture above the downstairs shower. Overall, it was a great stay. The kids sure liked the new blender that I was able to make foo foo drinks for them in. We would highly recommend staying in this condo, and sure hope to use it again next year.

Owner response: Thanks Mike. We're glad you liked the property. It is one of the best located resorts on the beach and enjoyed by thousands each year. Hope the kids enjoyed it as much as your libations. We hope you consider Sugar Beach and especially our townhouse for your future stays on the coast.
The condo was nice, updated and soooo relaxing! We had a wonderful time from arrival to our sad departure. The beach is just a few steps away and is gorgeous! The grounds and buildings are well maintained and the folks are friendly! We had such a great time. Good food is nearby if you don't want to cook all your meals but the kitchen is more than adequate. The upstairs bedroom and bath are very comfortable and the shower downstairs is great for coming out of the sun. We spent a lot of time n the balcony, too.

Great Time, Relaxing
Great Time, Relaxing
My wife and I needed a vacation away from the stresses of our normal lives so we chose to search VRBO and came across this condo at Sugar Beach. A nice place for us to relax and lay our heads. The Condo is well kept, updated with modern appliances. Hurricane Issac was coming through the week before we stayed there and the owner kept in contact with us to make sure all was alright before we made our trip. Very enjoyable, felt secure with the roving guards, never had any issues. I recommend this condo to anyone looking to get away and I look forward to staying there again.

First time in Orange Beach
First time in Orange Beach
This was our family's first trip to Orange Beach. We usually are Myrtle Beach junkies. We really loved the white sands and low key atmosphere. The unit was perfect for the 4 of us which included 2 teenagers. Unit was as described. Parking was great. Short walk to the beach was great. We did not use the pools so we have no comments about that. The only downside was no TV in the master bedroom, but that was not even an issue. Looking forward to coming back and matter of fact, my wife an I may be looking to head back down shortly for our anniversary and 50ith birthdays for the both of us. Thanks for the experience. I do not think Myrtle Beach will ever see us again.

About the owner: We're small town folks. Susan if from Fulton, Ms, and I'm from Mamou, La. We're now in Lafayette Louisiana, the heart of Cajun Country. This is our first place, and it has been as much fun to stay there as to rent and own it.
Why the Owner Chose Sugar Beach:
Sugar Beach has all the amineties, location, and conveniece of the higher priced places, but it is VERY affordable to you as a rental. We feel in love with Sugar Beach the first time we saw it, and had to own a piece of the beach. Now you can enjoy it too!
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Besides the beach being only a short walk down the boardwalk, I enjoy the covered parking, because getting into a HOT car is no fun. You'll really enjoy all the fine eating establishments too if you get tired of cooking in.
