Yesteryear Farm Home Close to the Lake Cora
- Minimum stay:N/A

Would you like to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life? PLAY A ROUND OF FREE GOLF? Take a step back in time to a simpler day when carriages were the mode of transportation. Nestled in the woods on 15 beautiful acres, stands the glorious 1890 home which overlooks Grape Arbors and Cherry Orchards.
This property is beautifully landscaped and has several out buildings besides the house and a fully equipped Coach House. There is a kitchen garden within the white picket fence, a babbling water fall pond with fish and frogs, a secluded swing, birds, and wild life galore. Lake Cora’s public swimming access is a one minute walk from the house.
The historic nine room home has four bedrooms and two baths. sleeps 8-12 guests and 2-4 more if the Coach House is used. The Coach House has a bedroom, living room, dining area, kitchen and bath.
Though it was built over 120 years ago, Yesteryear has a fully modern kitchen with refrigerator, freezer, microwave oven, and dishwasher. All dishes and cookware are provided. There is a charcoal grill on the patio with table and chairs. A fire pit with wood awaits a cool night's gathering.
The living room has historic turn of the century furniture, but both the house and coach house have air conditioning and free WiFi. The dining room table seats 12 and the breakfront is full of dishes for fancy use. The farm table on the enclosed porch seats 12+.
There are three King bed rooms and one Queen. Two additional sleeper couches (queen and full) are in the living room and on the fully heated porch. An antique hand carved youth bed is in the East Lake Room; cots and cribs available upon request. The two baths have tubs with showers.
There is a full laundry facility for your use which also has an additional shower with a built in seat. All linens are provided. Wheel chair accessible.
Yesteryear’s expansive glassed in front porch sports comfortable wicker furniture, the hide-a-bed couch and a comfortable conversation group plus some rare antiques, and a Fireplace . It’s a delicious area to just sit and watch the grapes ripen. There is a library with tons of books for your enjoyment, games, puzzles, cards, and other fun things to do on a cozy night. You may even play the Victrola which has been updated to use electricity.
Restaurants and a theater are 5 minutes away. There is WiFi on the premises for those who can't break the habit.
There are several local wineries which buy the grapes you are watching grow. These wineries give tours and tasting with great gift shoppes. Our favorite antique stores abound. We leave you brochures on all the fine things to do in the area. They don’t call this area the Napa Valley of the Middle West for nothing or Kalamazoo: Mall City for its lack thereof.
There are theaters, great shopping, churches, museums, three colleges and a University only 25 minutes away. Lake Michigan is a 35 minute scenic drive for a picnic on the beach and the Michigan State Parks are fabulous.
If you don’t want to cook and/or you don’t crave privacy, you may choose to participate in the Oak Cove Resort full amenities plan if there is seating. This includes full breakfasts and dinners, free golf, beach, pool, boats and other amenities described at Oak Cove Resorts website. Space is limited. Yesteryear is open all year while Oak Cove has a brief summer season.

We loved our stay at yesteryear. The house and grounds are beautiful - the only thing we could have asked for is more time. Susan is lovely and very accommodating - Thank You!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, people with disabilities.
Owner response: Thank you for your very kind words and the thoughts you left in our guest book. We also often wonder what it would have been like to live in that home in 1890. It feels right. We are so glad you enjoyed your visit.

We stayed at the coach house portion of the property. Basically an apartment over the garage with all the amenities..fully furnished. The only thing missing was a microwave in the kitchen. I had to boil water on the stove top for my tea...old school style....which wasn't any hardship, but just different for me. The unit was exceptionally clean and in great condition! A completely wonderful experience! With the lake just a minute away, there is many things to do and also plenty of quiet spots to sit and enjoy the peace and solitude. I would definitely stay again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, dear people, for those comments and the rating. We really enjoyed having you in The Coach House and hope you will return. Sorry I wasn't available when you left to say goodbye. We will see you again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Yesteryear. It has an unbelievable setting, with grape arbors in front of the house, and Lake Cora just a short walk away. We enjoyed rambling around the spacious house, looking at all the period antiques. Our host were fantastic, making us feel right at home. The house was beautifully decorated for the fall season, with every attention to detail being met. We spent our Honeymoon at Lake Cora, 37 years ago and were looking for a special place to recreate our memory. Yesteryear certainly "fit the bill". We can't wait to visit again!!! Owner response: Thank you, Pam and Ed, for sharing your anniversary with us. We were so glad to have been around to visit with you and get to know you. Loved hearing the stories of your youth on the lake.

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at Yesteryear for our 15 year wedding anniversary. We were spoiled as we had the house to ourselves and it was so charming and beautiful. We were treated to a little gift basket to make gourmet s'mores at the fire pit and a little gift card to the local quick stop (they have delicious torta sandwiches on the weekends). Everything was clean and decorated quaintly. I only wish we had more time to enjoy the little pond and take in the peace and quiet. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was our pleasure to have you. We didn't know it was your anniversary, but were so pleased to have you spend it with us. The farm house is all dressed up for Christmas, we wish you could see it. Thanks again for coming. Susan and Bob

We stayed in this home in the Summer of 2011, and it was absolutely a wonderful step back in time. The home is decorated beautifully and had plenty of room to accomodate three families. There was plenty of yard for the kids to play and each night we enjoyed time around the fire pit. We also took part in the meals at the Oak Cove Resort which added a special touch to our vacation, since we didn't have to cook any meals, and spent all of our time enjoying the area. The food there was absolutely delicious. Thanks, Bob & Susan for the wonderful memories. We hope to be able to come again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was our pleasure to have you. We have been so blessed with our guests and find we have made new friends. Your review was lovely and we appreciate your kind words.

My family (of 14) stayed here for a reunion and graduation celebration. My brother, his wife and 5 children came to visit us and stayed for some meals. The house was set up perfectly for all of us to sit down for a meal. The grounds were beautiful and the fire pit added to the evening fun. There are 7 teenage boys in my family and not a one of them missed the internet or the TV, because there are so many other things to keep their interest. The house is very clean and the 3 king size beds were soooo comfortable. Bob and Susan are wonderful to work with and were eager to make our trip great. The lake is gorgeous and if you choose to use the resort amenities you will be impressed. My family would love to return for further family reunions.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you, Fishers, for being such considerate guests. We loved all of your family and were very glad you were able to participate in the resort amenities as well. Lake Cora, you will agree, is one of the cleanest lakes in Michigan and thus ranked so. Thanks again for coming and we hope you'll tell your friends. We appreciate your writing a review.

We chose Yesteryear for a college reunion for six couples over the long 4th of July weekend, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. As Wolverines, we were thrilled to find out that Bob had played for the football team back in the day, and heard some great stories. He and Susan were very accommodating and eager to make our stay as comfortable property. There is a huge lot with a nice little trail in the back, a good fire pit, good-sized bedrooms and king-sized beds for each couple, and a beautiful view of the vineyard that runs for acres along the other side of a quiet road. We spent most of the weekend blissfully drunk, with periodic trips down the road to the lake (about a two minute walk). We weren't obnoxious, but not particularly quiet, either, and had no complaints from anyone. It's a great property with great owners, and we look forward to coming back in the future. Feel free to email me directly for a recommendation. Thanks again, Bob and Susan! Owner response: Thank you Jerry and friends for being our first guests at Yesteryear. We appreciate your wonderful review. You left our lovely home looking almost like it hadn't been used for which we are grateful. You were considerate guests and we would welcome your revisit. We are making many improvements and additions which you will enjoy. Stay tuned and look for us on Face Book. Regards, Susan and Bob
