We stayed here for 2 days in March and thoroughly enjoyed our visit at the Pelican Grand. The unit was nice and clean an overlooked the ocean. The hotel is literally right on the beach, and the water is only steps away from the building. Free chairs and umbrellas are provided, while some other places charge over $15 just for an umbrella. We ate several lunches and breakfasts in the restaurant, and the food was wonderful. A little pricey, but worth it. Would definitely return.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Pelican Grand pre-cruise. The location is great, just north of the main Lauderdale beach strip, and unusually located right on the beach and not across from the beach. It's located at the beginning of a residential condo/private homes strip on the beach. The 5th floor location was the closest we've ever stayed to the actual beach/water since usually you stay back aways in towers. The unit was as described and appreciated the separate sitting room at night with kids where can close the door. The unit is well designed that a window (with blinds) separates the rooms so you can see the incredible view and not a wall. We sat on the balcony and watched the sunrise and sunset. The rocking chairs on the veranda was also unusual and very nice. The beach is actually very narrow in front of the hotel, very steep angle and disappears almost completely at high tide so not the wide and flat beach you may expect in the Lauderdale area but it is wider north and south of the hotel. The kids loved the lazy river but passed on the main pool since even though it was in the mid 80's outside it was absolutely freezing in the pool and no-one was in it. The lazy river appeared to be heated. The downsides to the stay were that there isn't really anything within walking distance of the hotel and without a car pre-cruise, we didn't want to take cab rides with tired young kids and car seats so we ate at the one restaurant there. We found it to be extremely over-priced and delivered poor value with just average food - it felt like cafeteria food at five star prices. $9 for buttered pasta with a drink, and no desert as a "kids meal" is just a little high. For anyone with a car, or those willing to taxi, I'd strongly encourage you to eat elsewhere. This didn't detract too much from our stay though but we couldn't wait to eat elsewhere. The staff were all very attentive and professional. They did not have our room ready yet even though we were well past the check-in time but offered us two free drinks to enjoy while we waited.

Owner response: Thanks for your review Dan! Glad you and your family had a great visit and hope your cruise was wonderful! I wish I would have mentioned that there is another grill/restaurant in the resort right to the north of the Pelican (short walking distance). While our family has had some great meals at the Pelican, we've also enjoyed this as another (less expensive option). You may want to keep this in mind if you visit again.

We recently had the opportunity to spend a fantastic spring break at the Pelican Grand with our three young children. The resort was exactly what we were looking for. Our children loved spending the early mornings on the beach, the afternoons in the pool and the lazy river and the evenings eating ice cream and watching the waves come in. The unit, itself, was perfect with it's beautiful view of the ocean and the separate sleeping area allowing mom and dad to enjoy some R&R after the children went to sleep. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

The room was awesome! It was very clean and nice and roomy. This room/resort is literally ON THE BEACH! The extra room was just great - nice when you have kids with you to have that room that has a door to it as well so you can close it off from the bedroom. The Breakfast at the Pelican was very very good! The pool was also very nice. I can't say enough about the Staff - Friendly and Helpful! The Beach area was clean and having the chairs/umbrellas was great!

This unit at the outstanding Pelican Grand was just as I hoped it would be. The hotel itself was in a great location...even better than I had hoped. And yes, there was really NOTHING between you and the beach! Amazing! The lazy river was a huge hit with both my husband and I and our three kids! The onsite resturant not only was beautiful, and served delicious food, but was able to help cater to our severly food allergic child! What a bonus! That doesn't happen very often, but when it does... it really makes my day! The unit was clean and the view was to die for! Everything in this listing was portrayed extermely accurately, and Sue was wonderful in helping us reserve our stay. We loved hanging out at the pool in the morning, enjoying lunch "oceanside" at the resturant and then seeing some of Fort Lauderdale and Miami in the afternoon. I would highly recommend this hotel to ANYONE who was going to the Fort Lauderdale area. The only "negatives" we experienced were that our room was ready late..but in the hotel's defense they were 100% booked that evening and did some extra cleaning for us due to the allergies my child suffers from. So I was totally okay with this. Even still, they were extremely apologetic and even comped our parking for the stay!!! Above and Beyond! Also, a few times we could hear noise in the hallways, and from the busy streets below...but again that is expected with an "open hallway" layout. Nothing that would keep me from returning! Thanks for a great vacation! Alicia and Family!

The location of this resort is wonderful! The Beach is very nice and great for kids. The room and beds are very comfortable. The balcony is so enjoyable at anytime of the day. If you don't mind not having a kitchen and paying for the parking/tipping to use a car, this is the place! The work-out room is surprisingly out of date and not nice. The price on this unit is not to be beat! Over-all we Loved it!

We stayed at Sue's unit at the Pelican Grand for 5 days before our cruise. What a beautiful resort! The unit was clean and had an amazing view of the ocean and the beach. We spent every day relaxing on the beach and enjoyed the complimentary chairs and towels. Staff at the resort is very friendly and helpful. We didn't have a car but since the purpose of our trip was to relax, this was the perfect place to do it. There isn't much within walking distance so plan to take a cab to restaurants or grocery store if you don't have a car. This is still cheaper than the $24 a day they charge to park your car at the resort. The unit doesn't have a kitchen but we planned our breakfasts and lunches around things that didn't need cooking and we used disposable plates and cutlery. We also bought prepared foods at the grocery store that we could heat in the microwave. We did have a couple of meals in the on-site restaurants but we found that it would be too costly if you choose to eat all your meals there. Because we rented from an owner, there was no daily cleaning or replenishing of towels but because we were only there a few days, we managed OK. If we stay longer next time, we will definitely pay for cleaning service when we need it. My daughter and her family were coming on the cruise with us and they joined us in the unit for 2 nights. My granddaughters loved the beach, the pool and the lazy river. Sue, the owner of the unit, is so helpful and always responded to my phone calls and e-mails right away. We will definitely recommend this unit to others and we are hoping to return as well.

What a great rental for any couple travelling with children. The room set-up is perfect with separate rooms for bedroom and living room. We could put our son to bed, close the door and enjoy either the balcony with amazing views or living room with tv without bothering a sleeping baby. The pool, with zero entry and lazy river is perfect for kids of all ages, and each restaurant has a kids menu. My only complaint is that the hotel isn't in walking distance of other places to eat, so unless you have a car or can take taxis, you will be spending a lot of time at the hotel restaurants, which do run a bit on the expensive side. All that being said, I would stay in this wonderful place again for the view alone!

We loved it, the room had plenty of space and a beautiful balcony overlooking the ocean. The staff at the Pelican were amazing and make you feel so welcome from the front desk, to the bellman, to the pool and restaurants. Also, the pool and lazt river are nicely heated. We will be back!

I just returned from a wonderfully relaxing stay in Sue's suite! It was beautiful and exactly how it had been described, with that fantastic view of the ocean (I already miss it!). It was very clean, neat, and comfortable. I would definitely stay there again and have already mentioned this place to several of my friends. From her initial reply to my first Email of inquiry to the end of my stay, it was a delight to deal with Sue. She answered any questions that I had and was always willing to respond to any concerns, in addition to always being pleasant. Many thanks, Sue!

Thank you again for allowing us to stay at your place in Fort Lauderdale Price was right & will return when in the Lauderdale area - We had great time at the Pelican Grand. It was just what my wife and I we were looking for, it consisted of a few days over the Holiday to (Sit and relax) with a bit of shopping in between My wife kept telling me that I did good finding this place on VRBO . We are normally Marriott / Hyatt guest. We are also into great views from our rooms, We consider ourselves to be Seasoned Travelers for the past 25 years That’s why we give the Pelican Grand a “THUMBS UP “ Pros- Our Condo / Room was as advertised Ocean Front with two queens and a separate sitting area with a balcony , but the separate sitting area can be closed off for privacy if needed for kids. The Pelican Grand Resort itself was very polished and comfortable. It had all the amenities that a 4/5 star hotel provides. Truly- one of the few ocean front resorts in Ft. Lauderdale Beach …. Great staff …. Several Rocking chairs on a ocean front deck to sit and chill out ….. Plenty of places to sit by the Pool or Beach…. Clean Beach every morning for there guest ….. Fine Dining Oceanside restaurant on site .Plus plenty of dining within 2 miles down the beach …. Pool has a lazy river pool, plus a separate Zero inch swimming pool … (Pool heater was out of order but we were told they were repairing it ) SO NOT TO MUCH SWIMMING GOING ON Small Ice cream shop on site for that after dinner waffle cone with Butter Rum Ice-cream (Yummy ) …. Favorite Seafood Meal this week Hands Down - Casablanca café 1.5 Mile south on A1A The Scallop dish with No Chile Spice (Awesome Meal) with live music Favorite Landlubbers meal this week (Ribs -at J Marks Restaurant) 1245 N Federal Hwy • Fort Lauderdale Cons- a ceiling fan light in the bed area would be a plus . - Because it is a condo not owned by the resort, Maid Service is an extra charge. our stay only few days, we got by without it just fine. I suggest if your there a week or so, perhaps get the service a day or two during the week and plan to pay the additional fee. -Everybody’s # 1 Expensive Valet Parking fees per day. (But not only at the Pelican Grand that’s every where you go along the ocean. so get use to it) Poolside -Little bit on the higher priced poolside menu and bar drinks which is common at every resort. Get use to that too. We planed on these extra cost and had a great time Jim & Koz Algonquin, IL

We absolutely loved our trip to the Pelican Grand! We went during Thanksgiving week since it was the only time our kids could all be off of school/work at the same time. Even in late November, the ocean was warm, and the pool was warmer! We spent every day at the ocean, every afternoon at the pool and in the lazy river and sat on the back porch every night eating ice cream from the ice cream shop. The lounge chairs provided by the resort were awesome. It was so nice to be just an elevator ride away from the beach and to not have to carry all the chairs/umbrellas with us. The staff was very helpful and polite. The listing was perfect. If anything, the picgtures didn't do the place justice. The view from the balcony is incredible! Sue was great to work with, too. We are going to try to make it a Thanksgiving tradition for our family!!!! There was plenty of shopping close by and on our last day, all our kids had a great time canoeing in the Lagoon in the park up the street from the resort. There is plenty to do right at and near the resort and although we weren't excited about paying the $24/day valet parking fee, we grew to love it, too. I'm afraid we have been spoiled. We have rented several places in different locations from VRBO, and this one BY FAR is the best!!!!

We were fortunate to stay at the Pelican after a 10 day cruise ending in Fort Lauderdale. There is nothing bad you can say about the place from the room to the location to the restaurant on site. The staff is courteous and helpful and thee is very little you can want for. The location on the beach is excellent. While we were staying there we were fortunate enough to have a full moon and it just created the most unbelievable atmosphere, particularly at night while eating dinner on the deck. In addition they owners we dealt with were the best in terms of responsiveness. I would recommend the Pelican to anybody in a flash.

Can't say enough good things about our stay at the Pelican resort in Florida. We were there from 11-5 thru 11-12. Can't get any closer to the ocean. We have been to many Caribbean islands and this is by far the best view we ever had. The waves were like Hawaii. The service was excellent. If you can get an ocean front room, do it. The bed room and the separate sitting area were spacious. The food and atmosphere were great. Nothing but good about everything. The arrangements by Sue were as efficient as one could get. You can't bat the price any place. Lot's to do close by. Thanks again Sue for a great week!

I am so happy that I chose to stay in Sue's unit. Everything was wonderful. The bed was super comfy. Also the shower was fantastic. We did not have any negative experiences with the owner or the resort itself. The resort is a bit out of the way so you will want a car. Also parking is a little pricy but if you have vacationed in any major city lately you would expect that. Sue was upfront about the parking costs so there we no "hidden" charges or surprises. You couldn't ask for a better experience!

I just can not say enough good things about this property!!! The staff really cared about the quality of our stay and totally exceeded our expectations. There are not many nice resorts in Ft. Lauderdale that sit right on the beach (most have a breezeway across a 5 lane highway) but we were just 60 seconds from room to beach! The pool and lazy river were our favorite. We spent hours floating and sunning. The Ocean Grille Restraunt in the lobby is definately 5 star excellence. We traveled from Knoxville, TN for our honeymoon, and we will celebrate our anniversary there for many years to come! Thank you SUE!!!

We stayed at the Pelican Grand for 3 nights for a graduation in Ft. Lauderdale and had a great time. It was me, my husband, and our 4 year old son. We wanted to stay at the Pelican Grand because of its proximity to the ocean and the child friendly amenities such as the lazy river and ice cream shop. The owners of this unit offered the best price by far and the room was clean and comfortable.

We decided to book a last minute vacation and didn't want to spend a fortune. Our biggest requirement was to find a place that has a pool and is right on the beach, because my older daughter has cerebral palsy and can only walk with hands held (so limited distances). Pelican Grand seemed to fit the bill. We knew in choosing this property that we'd have to deal with the inconveniences associated with staying at any hotel on any beach, meaning no in-room kitchen and no laundry other than the pay-per-load guest laundry. We were prepared for the daily valet charge and we knew we'd pay for housekeeping services at least once. So, there were really no negative surprises when we arrived at Pelican Grand. Staff were friendly and check in was easy. The room was exactly as described, very comfortable and clean (though we were a bit surprised that only one roll of toilet paper was provided for the entire week so we went out and bought our own). The resort provided a complimentary "mini" crib with crib sheet which I was able to fit right next to the bed, though I did bring my own sheets. The mini fridge was larger than I expected, so we were able to keep snacks and sandwich items on hand and didn't need to eat out for every meal. The best part was in relation to the amenities: my disabled daughter could easily access the zero entry pool and the lazy river. We also had no problem with the few steps leading to the beach, though we noted that there is a ramp off the pool for those who are unable to negotiate stairs (a bit of a difficult area to negotiate onto the beach at the bottom of the ramp, though). The young man working at the beach was extremely friendly and helpful, immediately setting up chairs and beach umbrellas to keep us shaded. The pool was a bit cold for our infant but our older daughter didn't seem to mind, and the lazy river was a definite hit--not to mention the warm, beautiful ocean! We really enjoyed the Sunday brunch, and it was nice sitting out on the deck in the mornings for breakfast. Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay at Pelican Grand and we'd stay here again for trips lasting 3-4 days (longer trips and I've got to have my own kitchen and laundry, especially with kids! :)

We have stayed at the hotel before so we knew what to expect. Your place has a great view, is very clean and all was great! The weather was perfect, it rained 1 hour one afternoon at 3 and 5 minutes another. We went there for relaxation and literally got to the beach at 8:30 am and stayed there till 4pm. The kids bounced back and forth from the beach to the pool. We saw jelly fish in the water some of the time but they didn't bother us. A manatee swam past the resort less than a football field from the beach. We opted not to swim out and touch it but some did. We also swam with the little silver/gray/yellow backed fish that hang out in the water. It was a great time. The staff at the resort are extremely friendly. I highly recommend the Greek Islands (go there every time we are in the area) and Bravo restaurants. We also went to the Hard Rock casino and ate at the Hard Rock. If you have never been to the casino area, you have got to check out the shops and restaurants. We have been there probably 5 times over the past 6 years. Also the pier in Lauderdale-by-the-sea is a nice place to walk around at night.

Some girlfriends of mine and I stayed here for a few days in August 2011 and loved every minute of it!! The resort is very close to great shopping/restaurants which we visited often. The room was wonderful with a separte living room area, and the beds were extremely comfortable! The direct ocean view was so beautiful that we propped the balcony door open everynight just to hear/see the waves. Spacious room, clean and secure. We loved going right downstairs to have breakfast on the veranda every morning. Definitely enjoyed the lazy river. Staff was friendly. Very short walk to the beach which we loved. Room service was reasonably priced. Only piece of advice I would give is bring extra towels because there is an extra daily charge for replenishing towels to the room since it is a condo rental. Had no problems renting from the owners. Smooth rental process altogether. I can't wait to go back!!! So sad it's over!

My 2nd trip to the Pelican Grand, but this time, we had the privilege renting from Sue and Steve! Beautiful resort with enough room for my family of 4, whom I now have a 20 year old and a 14 year old. The view is amazing, love, love it! Thankful for this opportunity and can't wait to go again!!! Thanks again, we are still talking about it!!

The place was just spectacular. We couldn't have been any closer to the beach lol. Enjoying sitting on veranda or steps that go down to the beach each morning and evening. The staff was courteous, very helpful, and went way beyond to make sure our stay was fantastic. We didn't want to pay for the valet parking but we loved it. It was so nice to drive up give them the key. I have stayed at many places, this was the best service. The location was terrific for easy access to 95. Plus when you go you have to find the bakery THAT TAKES THE CAKE. The best cupcakes I have ever had. Try the chocolate and the red velvet. I had read about it online and it was Oprah Winfreys favorite for her 2004 list...Definitely worth the drive. P K Chang for chinese was fabulous too. All in all, we had a wonderful time and just a fabulous place. Will definately be back again.

First, Sue is fantastic. She went out of her way to make us feel welcomed, made sure everything was right from check-in to check-out. Truly felt she wanted us to be happy in her unit. The property is beautiful. Like another world almost. Loved the veranda in back, the rockers, the pool and ocean both just steps away. Enjoyed eating and drinking outside on the veranda. The unit itself was just as pictured. Very comfortable. Great view of ocean from terrace. The staff from the check-in people to the wait staff, all very nice. We had a wonderful time and appreciated Sue's caring.

Waited to find a place til last minute and found a Gem . Owners were very accommodating as we needed to extend a day because of airlines . Very comfortable beds clean room , great view from balcony. Only hitch is must use hotel valet service for 24.00 a day and shower could use more lighting .Definitely would recommend to friends.

This is a beautiful resort that stands out among the other hotels along the Ft. Lauderdale beach. The room was absolutely perfect..the beds were wonderful, the room was comfortable with good seperation from bedroom to den...and the view from the balcony was breathtaking.....I do not have one complaint regarding my stay except it was too short! I will definitely rent this room again and again each time I visit Ft. Lauderdale....if you find the perfect place, why look for anything else!

Our family really enjoyed our stay at the Pelican Grand Beach Resort. The condo was clean, the views were amazing. The pool was great & lazy river. When I called Sue the owner told us the pull out was in need of replacing but our teenager thought it was just fine. She offered a solution but we didn't need to do it. We also asked her about transportation and parasailing and right away she gave us information or prices with names to places. This was a very relaxing vacation for our family and fun. We loved the dinner on site..just awesome, we enjoyed icecream and we also went into town and walked around. What made it all worth it was the affordability, THANKYOU!
