Family vacation home "Buck Bay House" near idyllic Buck Bay, on southeast Orcas, with room to comfortably accomodate two families. Walk to the private and public beaches with sweeping views of Lopez Sound, down country lanes, or to the hamlet of Olga for lunch.
Watch bald eagles fly overhead and deer graze on adjacent fields. Sip coffee from your Adirondack Chair on the front porch; buy Buck Bay oysters and clams from the shellfish farmer next door; have a barbecue on the deck with views of Buck Bay and Entrance Mountain; explore the beaches, or play croquet and horse shoes on the front lawn. You will have use of our row boat on Buck Bay, just a two minute walk from the house.
Hiking and swimming are a short drive to Moran State Park, Washington's fourth largest state park. Swim, canoe and fish on pristine Cascade and Mountain Lakes, hike or drive to the summit of 2,400-foot-high Mount Constitution for spectacular views of the San Juans, Olympics and Cascades, and the Canadian Gulf Islands. Other trails take you to water falls and through groves of old growth trees. Obstruction Pass is just down the road from the house, where you can rent kayaks at Lieberhaven Resort, or put in your own kayaks at the public launch there. We are also close to Doe Bay.
The house is ideal for families. Built in 1998, it’s clean, spacious and has a well-appointed cook’s kitchen. The large great room has high ceilings and big-window views of Buck Bay and Entrance Mountain. The back deck has views of the bay and is complete with gas grill and outdoor furniture.
Sleeping accomodations: First floor master bedroom with 2 Queen beds and bath; the second floor has one BR with a Queen, and another BR with a single and double. There is a bath on the second floor, too. We also have two folding cots for kids, and a sleeper sofa in the LR. A third bath is on the first floor.
Kids can play on the lawn, and there are no dangerous roads or high bank cliffs to worry about (it’s at the end of a dirt driveway). Wireless DSL and satellite TV keep you in touch. The house is equipped with toys, books, games, croquet, horse shoes and wading pools. Buck Bay House is your island home away from home!
