What an awesome find! Very cool to stay in while visiting for St. Patty's celebrations! Comfortable for 6 guests and a beautiful place. Open floor plan was nice for socializing, although we stayed out most of the time. Walked to River Street and City Market. After 2 days, we took pedicabs though, as we did a LOT of walking. Close to Kroger, as well. Excellent communication by the owners for booking, payment, and the actual stay. My only suggestion might be that the upstairs tub have a curtain of some sort available for privacy (not a huge deal), but we were a bit limited to the enclosed shower in the master. Overall, a terrific getaway and we had a fantastic time at Sanctuary Inn.

We stayed at this loft for a week in March of 2013. The loft is extremely nice, super clean, and very convenient. Very nice appliances, lots of space, and a full size washer and dryer. The location is very close to Forsyth park and we walked downtown almost every day. Stay here - you'll love it!

While the outside of the loft if very pretty, it is the inside that is breathtaking. The pictures (as others said) do not do it justice. The meticulous details that were taken to preserve the church are beautiful and the modern perfection to detail in the renovation is amazing. We traveled with another couple who woke especially early which was a little challenging. They stayed on the bottom floor and since the original floors are squeaky, we had trouble sleeping in while in the top loft. We visited during Thanksgiving and the kitchen had beautiful bowls, platters, and almost everything that we could have needed. The appliances (Jen air stove, washer and dryer) were top of the line. We are especially picky about cleanliness and found the loft to be very clean. Probably one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed! Kevin was extremely helpful while booking as we needed to switch around the dates. He was always very responsive. John was at the loft when we checked in and was very helpful and informative about the loft and the renovation, which he took part in the craftsmanship and design. Both men were very nice!

Owner response: Kind thanks Amanda - pleasure having your group and thanks for taking such good care of the Loft. You are certainly welcome anytime. Sincere best, Kevin

What a wonderful surprise. The Middle Loft is a beautiful, peaceful contemporary condo with only the finest appliances and decor that leaves you with the feeling that you want to stay a lot longer than your vacation allows. From the initial meeting with John, one of the owners and innkeeper, we felt welcomed. John gave suggestions for places to eat and places to go that made us feel like we were locals in the neighborhood. Wonderful and gorgeous Forsyth Park is only 1 1/2 blocks away, popular with groups of all ages and a wonderful way to walk to the historic district and some of the most beautiful squares you will ever see. We met Kevin, the co-owner the second day we were there. he and John are two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Even found the workers renovating the house next door friendly and helpful with information about the area. The peaceful and serene feeling you get while you stay in this beautiful place with sunlight shining thru the stained glass windows will make you want to come back again and again. Thank you, Kevin and John and sincere wishes for the future in this beautiful place you have created!

Rent this creatively appointed living space, you'll be happy you did. The upper loft has 4 small sets of steps to reach the top of the church loft. We had a cosy sensation, once we parked ourselves up high in the rafters of this church. Once upon a time it had been home to a small, humble, intimate Episcopal congregation. It has beautiful wooden flooring on the ground level and I think similiar flooring in th loft, perhaps fashioned to match the wood below, or perhaps this was the original loft floor. Very beautiful wood, with a beautiful sparkle tile bathroom section added on. This upper bathroom IS fun , if you don't mind showering with a hand shower . Plenty of hot water for all. These guys aim to please, John greeted us when we arrived. Since I asked, he gave me a very nice bag of ground coffee. What a gentleman! I liked the collection of art and architecture books in the library that is set up for guests to spend some quiet perusing. Live in this place for the long term because ther are plenty of shelves and cabinets. Dining room is a nice size, if you feel like welcoming friends or family members to dine. Kitchen is user friendly for more than one chef at a time! Plumbing fixtures state of the art. You read the other reviews . Enjoy!

My Husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in August, and the loft was certainly a highlight of our stay. Upon arrival we were greeted by the owners who were so cordial and willing to meet any of our need including letting us know what was good in the area. We were able to experience Savannah like locals because of their recommendations. My husband requested them to have my favorite flowers in the kitchen as we arrived, they went out of their way to special order them for us - talk about personal touches! The loft is homey, comfortable and made our week incredibly restful. The fully equipped kitchen was wonderful to cook in and saved us in food costs along the trip. Its in walking distance of Forsyth Park, farmers market on saturday morning, and the Sentient Bean Cafe (great coffee!) We're planning to return next summer, with friends, to experience the rest of the properties! Thank you for such an incredible stay - definitely set the bar for every other vacation we take.

Last June my girlfriends, my granddaughter and I spent a beautiful week in the Middle loft at Sanctuary Place. I fell in love with the Middle Loft as soon as I saw it online but was a little bit nervous to see it in real life. I have to confess that the reality completely exceeded my expectations. We all fell in love with this eclectic and yet testfully decorated and thoroughly designed space. The old stainglassed windows added to the beauty. My goal was to show my European friends the Southern beauty and to educate my seven year granddaughter about some pivotal moments of American history. My mission was successfully accomplished. In addition, I showed my friends the art of redesigning. Thank you Kevin and John!

We had such a wonderful time in this place. It was clean and spacious. It was beautifully restored and so comfortable to stay in. If you are looking to step outside your place and be in the heart of the historic district, this is not the place for you. However, we were so glad to be in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood without tour buses and horse & buggy carriages cruising by every 5 minutes. We like to walk and we chose different streets every day so we visited every square. The houses we passed were beautiful. Forsyth Park is a great place and a short 2 blocks away. Great farmers market there on Saturdays, where we bought stuff to cook in the really nicely equipped kitchen. The upstairs BR with "open" bathroom was not private which some people could definitely have a problem with, but there is a full bath and a half bath, both private, on the first floor. We had fun "showering" in the upstairs tub.The thought and care that went into the design of these condos ( there is a front loft too) was amazing. Although the photos are great and accurate, you really have to see it to truly appreciate it.We are so glad that we were able to stay here and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a unique experience. Thank you to Kevin, who offered the middle loft to us when the front loft was rented while I was being indecisive. If this place is available, reserve it! If you hesitate, some one else could be enjoying themselves in a really special place instead of you. We really enjoyed Fire Street Food restaurant. Paula Deen's place was the least enjoyable place we ate in. We make better biscuits and collard greens. The fried chicken was fried chicken. We were not impressed. All in all,our trip here was everything we were hoping for. The only negative for us is the distance from our home in SW Florida. Thanks again to Kevin and John for providing the nicest and most interesting vacation rental we have ever had the pleasure to stay in.

Owner response: Thanks SO much Tanya. A true pleasure meeting you and your friends. Just to let you know, John is receptive to the idea of creating a small outdoor area in front of the Loft so I will update you when it moves forward. You are certainly welcome anytime so please keep in touch. Enjoy the rest of your summer, Kevin

We arrived to be greeted by our genial host, Kevin. All 4 of us walked around the loft with our mouths wide open - the renovation has to be seen to be believed. And then we noticed the top of the line appliances and kitchen accoutrements. Both bedrooms are spectacular, and the light shining in is breathtaking through the stained glass windows. We found the openness to be easy to live with being good friends and comfortable with each other. The walking distance to coffee and organic grocery was ideal, and walking to historic downtown was one of the other highlights. We all decided that Savannah is the most beautiful of southern belles! in large part thanks to this gorgeous property. Thanks for the warm welcome and great stay. The listing doesn't even begin to describe the feel of this well cared for vacation rental.

The Middle Loft at Sanctuary Place was wonderful. The property is spacious, light-filled and has beautiful decor. The mix of a historic building and a modern interior is gorgeous. The space is filled with wonderful features - professional kitchen, multi-head shower, washer and dryer, courtyard BBQ, movie library, etc. Your needs are taken care of from the mundane (laundry) to entertainment (movies). Kevin (innkeeper/concierge/all-around good guy) was absolutely fantastic and very welcoming. He was responsive to questions and knowledgeable about the unique property and Savannah in general. He gave us great restaurants suggestions - down to whether we needed a reservation and the best item on the menu. We are already thinking about when we can go back for another visit to Savannah and a stay at Sanctuary Place. We have recommended Sanctuary Place to at least a half dozen co-workers thinking about visiting Savannah already. I will continue to wholeheartedly recommend Sanctuary Place. The photos accurately show the property, but I was still pleasantly surprised when I actually arrived at how great the property truly is. Just south of Forsyth Park made it convenient to get to restaurants, cafes, cocktail lounges and boutiques. We truly cannot say enough good things about the property or the people running Sanctuary Place. Do yourself a favor - stay at Sanctuary Place!

Owner response: Big thanks Erica - pleasure hosting you and Jake for this special occasion. Sincere best wishes to you guys and your future together and please look us up if you came back to Savannah. Kevin

This is the kind of place you see on the Travel Channel or HGTV. It's one of those places that you dream of owning, or at least staying in for a period of time. Kevin, Jon and team put some much hard work and love of craft into this place. It's great to hear the history and the process of the remodel. It's so amazing that I can't believe they actually let people rent it. Thank you for sharing this piece of history with us. There is so much attention to detail, and they really kept the integrity of the historic church. There's something really revitalizing about waking up with the sunlight streaming through the original stained glass windows. If you're staying with friends, keep in mind the upstairs bedroom and bathroom is very open. It's amazing, but it's not private. We all shared the downstairs bathroom for showering which worked out fine. There's also a 3rd bathroom (1/2) so with 5 people staying there, we didn't have any issues. The kitchen is amazing as well. We dined out a lot, but we did cook food for a brunch for 100 people (which we held offsite). So if cooking in is your thing, you'll have everything you need.

The apartment was far beyond our expectation and the location was ideal. Close to the historic downtown area but far enough away to avoid the crowds. The listing was accurate and the property easy to find. It was extremely clean and we were happy with the amenities. Kevin, the person we dealt with when renting the property, and John the architect whose vision it was to convert the church into apartments, were on site and very helpful, accomodating and personable. There was a definite pride of ownership and it was well deserved. Our travel partner was not able to manoeuver stairs so it was great that there was a bedroom with a full ensuite on the main floor. We were within minutes of a grocery store and restaurants. We attended the House and Garden tour held in March and would highly recommend it. We visited Wormsloe Plantation where Forrest Gump did his famous run as a child. We also visited the town of Midway and the Magnolia Plantation. Saturdays, Kellers Flea Market is open and is a lot of fun. There are so many things to do and visit in and around Savannah. The history and shopping are amazing. The apartment is not for children or people who have a problem with heights. But for everyone else it is worth the experience.

My husband and I stayed here in March 2012. We were totally gobsmacked when we saw the apartment. The photos do it no justice whatsoever. This old church has been renovated to a such a fantastic standard and I can't speak highly enough about it. There is every appliance you are likely to need and the owner, Kevin, and his friend John, were so helpful. Nothing was a bother for them. The apartment is about a 10 minute walk from downtown Savannah and there are some nice local eating places too. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for high quality accommodation.

What a lovely loft! We had family visiting from California, so we took a short trip to Savannah from NC and could not have been happier with our choice! Upon arrival, we were greeted by the caretaker and given the keys. The juxtaposition of the old and the modern made this loft very inviting. It was impeccably clean and had all the comforts of home, everything you need, except for bath soaps! After a day of touring the city, it was so nice to come home to the cozy living space and cook a nice meal. What a wonderful place! We would recommend it to anyone and would love to return again.

Sanctuary Place is an ideal location - just 3 minutes walk from Forsyth Park, which is central Savannah. This is just about the best place I've ever stayed in - lovingly restored church with upmost attention to detail and comfort, everything possible supplied to make for a great holiday. Just spent 4 days here with my daughter, son-in-law and niece on Christmas holiday from Ireland and we were all delighted with this rental. The other reviews all mention the building restoration and how well the original fittings have been retained - stained-glass windows, wood floors, internal supports etc. but the owner Kevin has also installed top-of-the-range modern fittings - kitchen, TV, furniture etc to add to the overall athmosphere. He was always happy to answer any tourist questions and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recomment this rental and would love to stay here again.

We stayed in this wonderful home/loft this year over the Memorial Day weekend and have no complaints what so ever. Thiers advertising does not do justice to the home nor its generous amenities. My partner and I are both cooks and the kitchen and it's well stocked supplies met every need. Each room exceeded our expectations and most of all the hosts and owners were generous and just plain nice and down to earth. The upper bedroom and the deep tub make for the perfect end to a day on foot in Savanna, just bring bubbles! Location is perfect also, near the park, away from the hub-bub of the river front. We took advantage of the Saturday farmers market and stocked up on fresh items to explore cooking with. We have booked it for the Labor Day holiday already, so sorry folks, the early bird gets the best worm! Three friends and I had the privilege to stay in the center loft during our girls weekend in Savannah. There are many choices for a place to stay in Savannah but you will not be disappointed if you choose Sanctuary Place.....the pictures do not do justice to this beautifully restored property!!!! I will admit, I am usually not a fan of modern loft designs, however the artist and architect of this project did a wonderful job of putting in modern convenience while keeping the historic character and charm of the property. The bathrooms have large rainfall showers yet the floors still show marks of where the pews were located. Kevin and Barbara were very accomodating. Kevin met us at the condo for check in. He showed us around the unit and even gave us a tour of one of the other units (the one with the bell tower bath....oh my, it was probably the most beautiful bathroom I've ever seen). Barbara checked on us later that afternoon to make sure we had everything we needed. Kevin gave suggestions of things to do and see. At his suggestion we grabbed a quick lunch at the Sentient Bean, a little coffee shop a few blocks away. Great suggestion so definitely stop there if you get a chance. Though this property isn't in the heart of the historic district it is in the Victorian District - which is quiet and out of the bustle of the tourists. It is approximately a 1.5 mile stroll down to the riverfront/city market area. The walk takes you through Forsyth Park, past some graceful homes and through other historic squares. It's a beautiful walk and if you're out late there are always plenty of pedicabs to bring you home. For a girls weekend this was a great alternative to a hotel. The condo was large and spacious and I know that all of us felt we could really relax, have a glass of wine and really enjoy each other's company. There was a washer and dryer. The kitchen seemed to have every gadget you could need though we only ate breakfast there. As the other reviewer said, it is a loft so sound does carry from 1st floor to 3rd. We never turned on the TV during our stay but did use the radio with the iPhone docking station (the sound in the church was amazing). All in all, you will not be disappointed with your stay. If I'm ever back in Savannah I will definitely see if one of these units is available.......

We ended up staying here through the kindness of Barbara after our original reservation with another owner was unexpectedly changed. What a delightful surprise! She was wonderful to work with, loved to show the amazing renovations to this building, and has created a wonderful sanctuary in Savannah. It is a loft, and sound does carry from the first floor to the third (and vice versa), so it helped that everyone was on almost the same sleep scheduled. Located just about a mile from River Street, and around the block from Forsyth Park and an organic market, it provides a good resting place while exploring Savannah and going for morning runs. The outdoor space is shared but was still wonderfully relaxing. Couldn't ask for more.
