Luxury. Privacy. Serenity.
This is what a beach vacation should be... Cocina Pacifica is a vacation home for families. Although we are only minutes from Cabo San Lucas, we are light-years apart. The closest hotel is 12 miles away, there are no beach vendors constantly bothering you, and the nearest bar is 10 miles away. Here, families can safely hike the beautiful desert mountains, arroyo waterfalls and caves are a peaceful stroll away, and the beach is simply spectacular with miles of secluded white sand and natural rock formations. And then there’s the hammocks—There is nothing quite like a siesta in one of your hammocks, the constant sound of the Pacific surf and the steady breezes rock you to sleep as palms sway.
Our weather is perfect! Being on the Pacific, we are 75-80 during the day, and low-sixties at night. And that’s ten months a year. Even when it’s 100 degrees in Cabo in June and July, we’re still in the low 80’s.
The home itself sits on 1.6 acres of the most amazing and beautiful property in Baja. We have 200 feet of beachfront, and the home sits atop a 30’ granite bluff. Steps lead to the beach, where we have a small grotto for nighttime campfires, and then four miles of perfect white-sand beach dotted with granite and limestone rock formations. To our east are the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, rising to almost 6,000 feet. Sunrise over the mountains, sunset over the Pacific.
Whale Season at Cocina Pacifica is simply amazing! From November thru February thousand of Gray Whales migrate from Alaska to the Sea of Cortez, passing closer to us than anywhere else on the Pacific coast. Typically we'll spot 30 or 40 a day, right from our own back yard, and often within 40 yards of the beach. Breeching and spy-hopping is common, and a sight you'll never forget.
To meet your needs, our American property manager / concierge lives in the casita at the entrance to the property, just outside the gates. You’ll always have total privacy, but they are always close by when needed. Maid service is twice per week, more if you’d like.
Chef services are available for $28pp for evening meals (all included except booze). Contact owners for sample menu.

Let me begin by saying, my children have asked to return again for Spring break in 4 weeks, and my youngest son cried when we left for the airport to come home. This place is a fantastic private get away for the family, but close to so many fun activities that you can decide just how busy you want each day to be. The owners took time to make sure we got to do our favorite things, scheduling outings to go horseback riding, directing us the best boogie-board beaches, scheduling our deep sea fishing excursion, and helping find great restaurants. They cooked our deep sea catch for dinner one night too! We made our own breakfast each day in the gourmet kitchen, saving time and money. And every morning we went for long walks on the beach. The sunrises, sunsets and night time stars are just breathtaking! Although we were picked up by the property owners at the airport (which was a great help on arrival) we wanted to drive around a lot and see things. So we rented a car and drove to and from Cabo and up to Todos Santos with no trouble at all. The area felt very safe and friendly. There is a Costco on your way to this property so you can stock up on familiar groceries for your stay. No one had the slightest stomach upset on this trip.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

This is an excellent place to come with the family if you choose or a group of friends. The view is amazing from the beautiful rushing sounds of the ocean, to the breathe taking sunsets, and the amazing starrey lit sky at night. For my first time coming to Cabo this place left an imprint for the rest of my life. The host and owner Jim is an awesome guy who has the flavor of cabo to feed you food that just makes you want to never stop eating and the inside scoop on the best spots to see on a budget. Staying here you get the best of the both worlds you can drive 30 mins or so to get to Cabo or the very special town of Todo Santos and the privacy of having your own beach. I would stay again at Jim's place and hope whoever reads this try it out because you will love it I promise.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

This home fit our family of 15 (five couples and fivechildren) to a "T".We especially enjyed the kitchen with more than adeauate space for meal preparation and gathering. Plenty of space for eating, inside and out. If you ejoying seeing and hearing pounding surf, this is ideal. The kids had a great time swimmng and learning to surf at Cerritos beach a few miles away. Fortunately we brought wet suits and jackets, the water and the breeze off the water is cool. We couldn't have asked more from owners and hosts Jim and Susan. Thye gave us great guidance on places to visit and to eat. Service and food at Carlito's was -- WOW! We are glad we had rental cars as the mome is a distance from Cabo. Internet service is good. Cell phone was dependant upon providers from non-existent to adequate. We have rented large oomes on several occasions for our family reunions. This home stands at the top of the list!.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children.

Wake up and walk to the terrace overlooking the Pacific. Then walk down the steps to the beach. Sit on a granite boulder listening to the waves crashing and watch a whale breech in the distance.Look East and see the mountains and the desert, unblemished by civilization - and then tell me there is no God. What began as a getaway with friends became a spiritual adventure and a reconnection with nature. Away from the distractions of everyday life and living off of the grid (solar powered estate), we rediscovered relationships, enjoyed incredible meals with friends each night on the patio as the sun went down over the ocean. Lounge in the hammocks, go deep sea fishing, premium golf ,visit nearby Todos Santo artist studios and Hotel California. But of all these options, we know you will only want to stay at the estate, mesmerized by the view. This is the destination! , You need go no further. This retreat exceeded all of our expectations.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I recently visited Cocina Pacifica. It was absolutely fabulous and we would recommend it to everyone. The home was beautiful and the views were simply unbelievable. Not sure what we liked best, the gorgeous sunsets, breathtaking views of the ocean, or seeing whales breech right off of the beach behind the house. It was one of the most relaxing trips we have been on. The owners were very hospitable and there to accomodate you. Make sure to ask the owners to prepare some of their specialty dishes, and make sure you have them take you deep sea fishing. We caught tuna, saw thousands of porpoises jumping by the boat, and saw a whale up close and personal. We also had sea lions scooting on the back of boats when we returned to the marina to eat the leftover bait to top it off. Also, for you golfers, they have some of the most beautiful golf courses anywhere. Just ask my husband. Overall, the trip was one to remember and we can't wait to go back.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.

My husband and I just returned from an incredible week at Cocina Pacifica north of Cabo San Lucas. Absolutely the most relaxing and beautiful places we have ever traveled to. The house is beautiful and has everything you could need. It definitely is a 5 star resort! Close enough to go into Cabo, but after seeing the view, we never wanted to leave. We spent many hours in the hammock watching the whales which are practically at the front door. The owner prepared our meals most nights (out of this world!) and recommended local places to go when we wanted to leave, which was seldom. I highly recommend this home if you love luxury, watching whales, going to sleep to the crashing waves, and spectacular scenery. Wonderful accomodations and outstanding hosts.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

Cocina Pacifica is a perfect slice of heaven on the Baja Peninsula. Whether relaxing on the endless beach without another person in sight (the WHOLE TRIP) or enjoying an outing to Todos Santos for local artwork, we were never disappointed. We enjoyed watching whales from the back yard, deep sea fishing, fishing from the beach, relaxing by the pool, shopping in Cabo, and to top it all off; a wonderfully relaxed cooking school with a local chef who is amazing in her craft. And I almost forgot! The property itself is fabulous!!! Truly upscale accommodations in every way- you won't be disappointed. Pictures are 100% accurate.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

I stayed one week here with the primary goal of unwinding and relaxing. It was great! My room was very nice with a large shower and separate rooms for sleeping and lounging. I enjoyed the hot tub under the stars multiple times. The sunsets were unbelievably beautiful. There were multiple hammocks to choose from making for great naps. The beach was ideal for strolling, the large rocks in some areas causing crashing waves which were simply great to sit and watch and listen. We did get out to local towns and restaurants a few times. There were great taco stands, local fresh fish and an Asian influence place that was awesome. The host, Jim, was very welcoming and had thought of everything. The kitchen was well stocked, we had great meals and he was willing to drive us wherever we needed. Note: I went as part of a travel package and did rent the house straight out. I think it would be a great place to hang with a large group of friends or to host a family event.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children.

Year Purchased: 2000
About the owner: Susan and Jim Smith purchased the land in 1998, then were transfered to Paris for two years. While living in Paris, Jim traveled between Paris and Cabo to supervise construction of their beach home. In 2002 the final phase of the home was completed and we lived here part-time, splitting time between here and Dallas. What started out as a 1,200 sq ft vacation home ended up near 8,000 sq ft with 8 bedrooms, two living rooms and a 120' patio overlooking the Pacific. In 2009 we also opened our 'retirement' business, Cocina Pacifica Cooking School. We now spend about 3/4 of our time here at the beach, and the rest of the time in Dallas with our children and 4 grandchildren. While here, Susan spends most of her time walking our two labs on the beach, reading from one of our hammocks, and a few hours a day working from home via computer. Jim stays busy with fishing--either from the beach in front of the house, or from our boat. Can't forget whale watching: From November thru February we spot dozens of whales each day from our back yard, plus we take the boat out for some really close-up encounters. Spectacular!
Why the Owner Chose Other Cabo San Lucas Properties:
Why did we build Cocina Pacifica? Four miles of private beach. Migrating whales literally in our back yard. Incredible fishing. Nearby Todos Santos, which is much more quaint and enjoyable than Cabo. Nearby arroyo waterfalls. Perfect weather: our weather is so different than down in Cabo because we are on the Pacific. August and September are hot, but the rest of the year it's 75 during the day and low 60's at night. And it never rains, with about 360 days of pure sunshine. Spend a day here, and you'll understand why this is paradise.
