This grand hacienda is on a very private 3-acre estate located at the end of the road along the Rio Grande Bosque Nature Preserve in the village of Corrales. Situated amidst the ancient Cottonwood trees in a park like setting, the property is close to the shops and restaurants in the charming, historic village of Corrales. Outside the gate you can walk or bike for miles along the spring fed irrigation ditch paths with majestic views of the Sandia Mountains, or wind through the cottonwood forest of the Bosque to the banks of the Rio Grande. Located along a western migration route for water birds, the Rio Grande valley seasonally fills with cranes, herons, and countless flocks of ducks and geese. During the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta you will see dozens of colorful balloons drifting by overhead, often flying low enough for you to say hello to the pilots. Built with double thick adobe walls, this 5800 square foot home has all of the charm characteristic of southwestern adobe architecture, with carved posts, peeled viga ceilings, brick floors, curved walls and arched doorways. The house has 3 separate living areas for privacy and for staging events. There are 4 unique, beautiful talavera tiled baths, 4 very private, large bedroom retreats, an additional 5th bedroom loft, and sofas in the living room and den. The lovely master bedroom suite has 2 rooms, a king size bed, plus a queen futon bed, kiva fireplace, and a large bath with Jacuzzi tub. In addition, there are two bedrooms with queen beds, and a loft bedroom with a queen bed, and futons and sofas for additional sleeping space in the living room and den. ??There is HD cable TV, plus a pool table and piano in the den. The second living room has a large kiva fireplace and windows looking out over the pool and the Cottonwoods. There is wireless Internet service throughout the house. The fully equipped kitchen has a big center island, cherry cabinets, and is equipped with everything necessary to cook a gourmet meal. Outside there are two separate patios, both with gardens, barbecue gril. Corrales has many choices for fine dining, fabulous Village Pizza, farmer's markets, horses, farmland and wildlife. There are dirt roads, no traffic lights, and the essence of a time gone by pervades the senses. Remarkably this peaceful sanctuary is only 10 minutes from Albuquerque, 10 minutes from the Cottonwood mall, 15 minutes from Balloon Fiesta Park, and 25 minutes to downtown, the Old Town plaza, fabulous art and history museums, the Rio Grande Zoo, Biopark and Aquarium. A short drive to the Sandia Tramway will take you to the top of Sandia Mountain for hiking and skiing. There are nearby wineries, fine art galleries, museums and Indian pueblos. Sandia Casino is 15 minutes away and has a fine venue for concerts and a world-class spa and restaurant. Tamaya Resort and Day Spa on the Santa Ana Indian reservation is also close by. Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is 45 minutes to the south, Santa Fe is an hour north, and Taos is a 2-hour scenic drive away. Consider this rental as a location for an artist retreat. Plein air locations are endless as you stroll along the Bosque with views of the Sandia Mountains, wildflowers, majestic Cottonwoods, and the layered hues of the grasses, river, mountain and sky. The quality of the light in the glorious New Mexico sky is magical and inspiring. This is a fabulous location for, reunions, special celebrations, or retreats of any kind. Tours, meals, and other services can also be provided. The pool will be open from June 1 until September 1.

We stayed in this wonderful property during a recent business trip. The home was very secure with tons of privacy. It easily accommodated our group of five adults, each bedroom was beautifully decorated with very comfortable beds and linens. We cooked most of our stay, so the BBQ grill, large kitchen and dinings areas were very convenient. We enjoyed our time playing pool and hanging out around the outdoor fireplace. There were nice trails for evening walks or runs and huge trees providing shade for outdoor activities. I would highly recommend this property, and hope to be back next year.

We rented the house for our family members from out of town for my son's wedding. The house is designed for privacy with areas to visit small and large. Well appointed kitchen, you won't need to bring a thing. We had our "Big Chill" experience and couldn't have asked or needed anything! There were small children and the playhouse and swing kept them entertained. The pool table and the pool are excellent additions. We always had something to do without going out. I would rent again just for the fun and location.

From the moment you drive through the gate you know that you are in for a very special experience. The lush lawns, gardens and stately trees offer such a wonderful park like feeling in such a peaceful and private setting. The casita is darling and totally private with it's own landscaping and water feature. It offers everything you could need and more, including comfortable beds and furniture, nice well stocked kitchen and charming decor. You have direct access to a walk along the river trail in the trees or a swim in the pool. Definitely do both! All of this in the heart of charming Corrales,NM with great culture, shopping and dining in a rural and beautiful atmosphere. Sandy, Will and their family were so welcoming and gracious and made us and our dog feel so at home. It was wonderful and relaxing week on their fabulous estate. We hope to return again. We have stayed at many VRBO properties and I have to say this is our favorite!

Loved our stay at the Casita. So peaceful and beautiful I couldnt wait to get back to it everyday after we had been visiting our son in NE Heights area. Very convenient to anything you want but feel like you are miles away from everything. Rode the bikes to the village for breakfast at Hannah and Nates. Walked the trails in the Bosque. Sandy and family were so friendly and helpful and casita feels very private. Also the casita was very comfortable, clean and very well supplied. We hope to return again next year.

Just got back from a week of sunshine, quietness and relaxing, had a wonderful time. The Casita had everything you needed, including beautiful scenery. Loved cooking our breakfast in the well equipped kitchen, and the bed was the best after a day in the "thin" air. I'm sure we will be back again. Sandy & Will, Thank you for sharing your little gem with us. Kell & Lisbeth

Beautiful casita in Corrales with no shortage of scenery. Fantastic place to stay with children who were well occupied on the swings and running around the property. Great amenities and a terrifically warm welcome by the owners on our late night arrival leaving a basket of goodies. Conveniently located to many local establishments, Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. Laundry facilities made it great for the extended stay and we were all well entertained by the horse (who by far had more character than I have ever seen in a horse) who calls this lovely place home. We enjoyed many mornings and evenings sitting on the deck sipping coffee while enjoying the weather and fountain. Looking forward to the next time we can go back! This is a wonderful place to stay with great owners and I could not recommend it any higher!

Recently I found this lovely place to stay in Corrales, NM, in a suburb of Albuquerque. It was unlike the surrounding high desert of the Southwest. Having lived in Phoenix, AZ for the past 30 years, I wanted to go to my first Balloon Fiesta and treat my Fiancé to a spectacular weekend. We were not disappointed. The uniqueness of Corrales is the old New Mexico territorial appearance of most of the architecture, and its lush green, tall Cottonwood trees fed by the Rio Grande river, which ran right next to where we stayed. A brisk walk took us over a near by canal to the shores of the river and the extensive walking trails nearby. The Casita was an extension of the main adobe house, in easy reach of the host and hostess if we needed local advice, yet far enough away and separated by a beautiful adobe walled and landscaped front yard with a trickling water fountain. The entire property is pastoral with green lawns, tall trees, a barn, and an atmosphere that is slow paced and quiet. Inside our casita was a huge front room with wonderful natural light. The open plan kitchen was fully stocked with an ample number dishes and cups, however, we mainly used the great coffee maker and colorful mugs for our lazy morning starts. The casita was all it was advertised to be and more. The king sized bed suite is both beautiful to look at and comfortable to sleep in as well. A large modern bathroom complements the Master Bedroom. The bedroom was quiet and less brightly lit with natural light allowing us to easily sleep in. The truth about our visit to see the Balloon Fiesta is, that after we both drove 7.5 hours to get to the casita, we were too comfortable and tired to get up at 5:30 am to make the short drive to the nearby Balloon Fiesta Park, so we turned on the flat screened TV in the living room and watched the balloon launches from the comfort of the sofa while drinking fresh brewed coffee…. our idea of a great way to start a morning. We plan to return next year to actually go to the Fiesta and enjoy another delightful romantic weekend.

                      Year Purchased: 1999

About the owner: Three things I love about New Mexico: the glorious sky, the hot green chile, and the unique character of buildings made out of mud (adobe).

                      Why the Owner Chose Albuquerque:
This property is an unexpected oasis in the middle of the high desert landscape. This grand hacienda is surrounded by 3 acres of grass and trees, and out the gate are hundreds of acres of wilderness along the Rio Grande river. Enjoy great hiking, biking, and horseback riding on the paths right outside the gate.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Enjoy the tranquility of nature from the patio overlooking the Cottonwoods, bike to a cafe for morning coffee or a nice dinner at the Indigo Crow, stroll along the ditch banks and in season enjoy flocks of migratory birds: Canada Geese, ducks, herons, and cranes. Watch the red-tailed hawks soar overhead, and spot the owls, porcupines and raccoons that nest in the trees. Enjoy stunning fall color and the spectacular sight of balloons overhead during the Balloon Fiesta in October, go down to the farmer's market and have a bushel of green chile roasted to take home, return to the property and enjoy the tranquil peace and solitude after a long day of sightseeing around New Mexico.
