This historic mansion (a 'Casco Historico' - Land-marked Building) is unique even for this section of San Telmo. Currently the trendiest and most central neighborhood in Buenos Aires. It is perhaps the only surviving house in its original conditional in what was the wealthiest neighborhood after the turn of the century. And in addition to being the sole known survivor as a private residence unchanged (even the bathrooms are as they were in 1919) It was the costliest mansion in the area. It is late Art Nouveau, early Art Deco - and unlike anything else. There is simply more architectural detail and quality of construction here that can easily be described - I refer you to the photos and website (when the house was used only for Film Shoots and events).
Although entirely furnished and equipped to use as a private residence, the house is also available for Film and Photo Shoots, as well as for Conferences and Events.
Smaller groups please also take note that it is also possible to rent a smaller section of the house.
For those who don´t know Buenos Aires here are a few notes about San Telmo ~
San Telmo ('Saint Pedro González Telmo') is the oldest barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires. A well-preserved area of BA, with cobblestone streets, free of plastic and glitz. It contains cafes, tango malangas and antique shops--but it is still a neighborhood with old ladies walking their dogs, teenagers hanging out, people who have been there for a century--real life.
San Telmo's attractions include several historic churches (e.g. San Pedro Telmo), museums, antique stores and an antique fair (Feria de Antigüedades) in the main public square, Plaza Dorrego.
Also note that this being the only house to have survived intact the cholera epidemic of the '20's, it has also been designated a national landmark by the City of Buenos Aires.

Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway, people with disabilities.

We spent three days in Buenos Aires with our five kids -- ages 2-13 -- and staying in this home was such a fun part of our adventure! Needless to say, we are a challenging group to accommodate, but Joe and his employees were nothing but helpful and made us feel right at home. The house is like something out of a novel. Period details and interesting things to look at around every corner. Our kids loved exploring it, and so did we. Truly, staying there was magical. The location is not touristy, so you can pretend to be a local -- everything you need is just around the corner, from coffee shops and panaderias to groceries and laundry. We didn't do a lot of shopping on this trip, but I'm told some of the best antiquing in Buenos Aires is right in this neighborhood. And a short walk to the subway gets you just about anywhere. One little caveat: they are still working on a few things in the home, and if you are a particularly fussy person, you may want to chat with the owner about what you expect. We are pretty easy-going, and found the place completely comfortable and just right for us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

About the owner: I'm an American, who has called Buenos Aires--more than anywhere else--home for almost 10 years. I travel--buy a place in places I really like. An d everything is there because I liked it, liked living with it. And I don't feel comfortable with things that are just 'functional'--things that just serve a purpose. Everything should be fun or funny or funny or beautiful or odd--and should go with everything else in the place. What you will find is what you see in the photos--hopefully you will like what you see, rent the place, have a good time. And on that subject: I'm interested in talking with visitors--and seeing they really DO have a good time here! And knowing the places that you find interesting might be different from what I do? I will then try to find someone who knows the city as you want to know it--and help you find what you are really after. I find it very important those I rent to are also happy that they rented from me!
Why the Owner Chose San Telmo:
Buenos Aires is a city big enough to have everything but small enough to really know. And San Telmo is a mixture of trendy new people and places side-by-side with people who have been in the neighborhood for generations--the bars and restaurants the same. And there are more antique stores than anywhere else in BA.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
The single most original example of a surviving mansion in a neighborhood that went all the way down--so that the others were either knocked down or divided up--or taken up by organizations.
