Poipu Makai B-1 is the owners' second home for three months of the year. They continue to update both fixtures and furnishings in the unit for their own comfort and enjoyment, as well as for their guests. They have decorated throughout with the works of local artisans. The condominium is situated on a bluff overlooking the breath-taking Pacific Ocean and is just a hundred feet below the rim of a long extinct volcano, Poipu Crater (last active 40,000 years ago).
Step onto the ocean-side (makai), through a fully equipped kitchen to the dining lanai. It is a wonderful place for breakfast to watch the whales & dolphins doing amazing aqua-feats. If you look directly down you’ll see numbers of Honu (sea turtles) and many varieties of tropical fish. This location is excellent to sip an evening cocktail and watch a sunset; each is breathtaking and different from any other. You will understand why the Poipu area is called the “Sunny-side of Paradise” on the “Garden Isle”.
The attractive ground floor unit contains two bedrooms on the inland-side (mauka), each opening to a small Japanese-style garden. The master bedroom features a teak four poster king-size bed and full bath. The second bedroom has comfortable twin beds. A second full bath is located across the hallway for use by all visitors. A sliding door opens from the living room/dining area onto the lanai where guests can sit or recline to read and enjoy sun bathing. Looking southwest along the Poipu coast guests can see Spouting Horn and the “forbidden Island” of Ni’ihau.

“Joan and Bill’s home has the best sunset view of any place we’ve stayed. We enjoy all of the beautiful art inside too…. Year Purchased: 1986
About the owner: Joan and Bill Parker purchased Poipu Makai B-1 in 1986. They selected the first floor unit for its full access to the outdoor living of the lawn and ocean. Their plan, that has been closely followed, was to rent the unit and upon reaching retirement they would begin to visit Kauai for three months per year. Whenever they are not present, they make their home available for guests. Since 2000 they have been on-island for three months of the year and now consider themselves Kama'ainas (Hawaiian residents) with the “Aloha Spirit” of the Garden Isle. Now that they live here for extended periods, this has become their second hale (home). The remodeling and decor, in the Hawaiian-style, is an on-going work-in-progress for their comfort and enjoyment. Recently, the living room, dining area and guest bedroom have been completely refurnished. Their modern kitchen has been upgraded with new stainless steel appliances. The entire unit is tastefully decorated with pictures and giclees. The newest is a large giclee in the living room of the Koloa Sugar Mill. Other works seen throughout are by well-known Hawaiian artists, James Hoyle and Rosalie Prussing, as well as other local artists. For the last five years, Bill has served as the Association’s President. During this tenure, the exterior has been completely repainted, a new roof has been installed, and our plunge pool and cabana have been totally renovated. It is now a wonderful place to lounge and sun bathe, cool off in the pool, and prepare meals and dine in our cabana. Aloha nui loa (much love) Joan & Bill
