Property description

A beautiful home originally designed by architect Antonio Torres for his family it is perfectly situated in a half acre lot, facing the east and trade wind breezes of this hidden cul de sac treasure. The main floor opens into the pool and glass veranda deck terrace. Living room, family room, kitchen and main floor bedroom all have direct access to the pool deck area. This is perfect when entertaining or supervising small children in the pool. There is a wet bar with wine cooler, ice machine (very convenient), gas grill and assorted terrace tables that seat 18. Plus a formal dinning room that seats 10 and opens into an interior garden.
Two family rooms a large one in ground floor great for the kids or teenagers, and another one next to kitchen and covered terrace, both with TV and DVDs. The kitchen opens into the covered terrace, so the cook is always in the action, and has an island that seats 4. The living room with its baby grand piano facing the pool deck and windows that open to an exotic carob tree is casually chic. The third floor terrace has beautiful views
of the ocean, marina and the El Yunque National Rainforest and two very private sunbathing beds. The garden has a fountain/pond with rustic stone seating. A great place to relax in the afternoon and listen to nature. Our trees attract plenty of birds, quite an orchestra! Also, if you want ,one side of the third floor master bedroom has doors that can be completely open, a liberating experience after a dreary winter.
Of course the house is air conditioned and has a massive power plant that lights up the whole house with all its amenities in case of power failure. Keep in mind we are in the Caribbean and hurricanes happen. We also have WIFI and Cable TV with all major US stations.

Palmas del Mar is an all encompassing resort community located in the east coast of Puerto Rico, 45 minutes away from San Juan International Airport(SJU). There are other regional airports in Ceiba and Fajardo(FAJ) that are less than 30 mins. away with service to the islands of Vieques and Culebra as well as the USVI. The resort itself is a beautiful community that boasts its own Pterocarpus Forest Reserve, with its own boardwalk, an environmental initiative fostered by the community. It has over six miles of coastline with views of the island of Vieques to the east and the El Yunque National Rainforest to the northeast. Within the community you have 14 restaurants, bank, small supermarket, ,private post office, beauty salons and spas. As well as two golf courses, 20 tennis courts, Beach Club with slides and kiddie pool, jacuzzi, beach volleyball and two marinas that offer deep sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling and sailing trips. Besides, adult and children can go horseback riding at the Equestrian Center with trails taking you to the beach. The resort also has jogging and walking trails, as well as bike and golfcart paths. For those who want to try their luck there is a gambling Casino. With all these amenities there is no reason you should not enjoy your stay. Besides, only ten minutes away you have Palmas Reales shopping mall with Marshall's Penney's, Walmart, Radio Shack, Sam's Club and Walgreens and many more restaurants and stores.

About the owner: About Jerry and Tere We met in Palmas eight years ago at my now sister in-law house, a long time friend and snowbird of our community. Jerry was a widower with four grown up children (two boys and two girls) and I was divorced with three boys. Now we are quite a rowdy bunch with seven grandchildren and still growing!!! As you can imagine Jerry is the O'connor side of the family born and raised in Chicago, he graduated from the Univ. of Illinois with a degree in Economics in 1967. He recently retired from the floor of the the Mercantile Exchange agricultural futures market. I'm the Gonzalez side of the family born and raised in San Juan, went to school at George Washington Univ., graduating with a degree in literature. A Palmas resident since 1989 I have seen Palmas grow and develop. When we got married we went looking for a home for our new family and on the first visit fell in love with the house. Now, we spend our time between Palmas and the Lincoln Park area of Chicago, no complaints. Nonetheless, the house, which is our home, has become the gathering place for our family and friends, they love it and know you will too.

Why the Owner Chose Palmas del Mar:
We love Palmas, it is a resort, but besides the obvious amenities like golf, tennis, beach and walking paths, it is also a community of dedicated residents that care. Palmas brings a special familiarity, when you pass its entrance you are in another world. It is what long time residents call the bubble or 'burbuja' in Spanish. Yet, there are plenty of things to do. Enough bars and restaurants to keep you busy, jazz concerts, fishing and sailing competitions, full moon parties, spas, exercise classes, nature walks, and friendly residents. In case you want to explore, San Juan, Old San Juan(a gem) and the Condado area (similar to South Beach Miami) is only 40 minutes away and it has so many restaurants, museums, cultural activities and shopping that it will keep you busy. Besides, Palmas is close to many highways, to the north-east, you have El Yunque National Rainforest and Fajardo about 35 mins away. To the south you have Cayey, and Guavate area, famous for its roasted pork on the spit, further south about 45 away from Cayey, you have Ponce which is the larget city in the south and has a lot to offer. That is the advantage, we are an island, and nothing is to far from Palmas. So you have options which is great if you have a group with diverse ages and interests. In a nutshell that is why we chose Palmas and you will discover your own reasons yourself.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is perfectly located in the higher end of gentle slopping lot. The pool gets sun all day but there are enough shaded areas for comfort. Believe me, shade is important, the sun in the Caribbean has to be respected. Even though we don't have seasons like in the north we still have welcoming changes. Around the end of October all the way to March we have what we call the 'aires navidenos' or 'Xmas airs', which means the house receives cool breezes, a real joy, it is like nature put on a giant fan on high. In the Spring our robles trees (native oak) flower and it is a spectacle in pink, no need to envy the the D.C. Cherry Blossoms. Our house is surrounded by robles so the grass gets covered with a pink blanket. In the summer we have the red passionate flowers of the flamboyan trees, another free show from nature. There are trees not only in our garden but in all of Palmas. Even one of the golf courses is called Flamboyan. In the evening from our pool deck you can see an unobstructed full moon and gaze at the stars. It is a welcoming home, unpretentious, cozy, that invites you to open its doors breathe in and relax.
