My family of four stayed for a week in Primehook Beach DE in early September 2012. This elevated beach house is the perfect setting for anyone looking to escape and exhale for a while. The beauty of nature surrounds this unique area on all sides. We especially enjoyed sitting on the bay-facing deck, where the ocean breeze was warm and welcoming. The inside of the house is both relaxing and comfortable, with plenty of room to unwind. The beach is directly across the street, which was perfect for fishing and swimming by day and building bonfires and memories by night. Even our small dog enjoyed the freedom of the beach, which was basically deserted during our whole stay. Behind the house is a wildlife bird reserve. Lots of interesting shore bird and breathtaking sunsets to view. We visited nearby Rehobeth shopping area several times and bought scrumptious hard-shelled crabs from Lazy Susan's (highly recommended). We all had a blast to say the least. Thanks again, Patrick!!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners.

My son was married on August 11, 2012 in Harrington and I needed a house that would fit my traveling families needs. We had 11 adults and 3 children that stayed at the house and it worked out perfectly for us. Some of the family had small children and the calm waters of the Bay were a great playground for them. There was plenty of parking and the fact that the house had 3 full bathrooms as well as an outdoor shower worked well for us. The kitchen was well stocked as were the linens and towels. I would highly recommend this charming property to anyone looking for a quiet yet centrally located vacation rental. We did have to replace the shower head in the upstairs bathroom as it wasn't working, but my husband is handy and it wasn't a big deal.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Everything was great for us. The house was everything we were told it would be as far as rooms and space for our group of 11. There was some areas of the house that could have been cleaned better. The verticle blinds were old and kept falling out of the holders at the top. The one thing that bacame unbelievable was the misquitos, the last 2 days they were so bad it was hard packing to travel home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This vacation was a Christmas gift for our children and grandchildren. We all had a great time.Quiet safe and serene.Very nice beach house. The only downside to this vacation is that after 2 emails and a personal note to owner our security deposit has not been refunded as per contract.Property was left clean and same condition we found it.Hopefully it is just an oversight but it puts a damper on returning .Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

The house was very welcoming upon entry. The covered two carport garage was a plus considering we came in the summer. The rooms were very cozy and clean; large enough to store our belongings and luggages. The top bedroom was the largest enough to fit 10! It had its own relaxation room and bathroom! The kitchen was well-stocked and everything was working. We had two visitors from Dallas who have never seen Prime Hook nor stayed in a beach house...and they immediately fell in love with the place. Why? Because it was very unique especially with the house situated on land that is border on the east and west side by beautiful vistas! The location of the house was ideal:the back facing the refuge we get a wonderful view of herons, eagles, and hawks - and literally steps from the beach where it was easy for our dogs to walk. Overall, I highly recommend this place. I akin it to my home here in Baltimore - it is the kind of house where I will live in if I were to buy a beach house. Never once did I feel it to be like "living in a rental property". The owner was also very pleasant and accommodating. You'll surely want a renter who you can work with...and Patrick is the bomb! Try this place, please do, and you will not regret it!!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

Where to begin? The beach house was fantastic. Plenty of room, comfortable beds, nice living and dining area, plenty of plates, silverware, pots and pans, two decks with great views, a big enclosed outdoor shower, friendly neighbors, tons of parking room, bikes, kayaks, the beach across the street, and the wildlife refuge behind the house. The beach itself was perfect for us. At low tide you could walk out on the sandbars for hundreds of yards before it was waist high. We never even got out to the end because it was just too far from shore. Ay high tide, you could be in neck high water 30 feet from shore. It was like two different beaches. The waves were small since it's the bay and not the ocean. We let the dogs play on the beach, and we fished at night and built bonfires. Most times we had the entire beach to ourselves for as far as we could see. Then it was an easy 30 second walk across the street to the best outdoor shower ever. There was no traffic on the street and it was a five mile drive through the wildlife refuge to get back to the main road. We liked that, but be prepared for it. You can't walk down the steet in the morning to buy your coffee and a paper. You can walk, but there is nothing to buy and nowhere to buy it. It was the most relaxing place ever. The town of Milton was about 10 minutes away with a grocery store, liquor store, Walgreens, etc. Lewes was about 15 minutes away and Rehoboth Beach was about 20 minutes away. We visited all of them and had a great time. I'd recommend Fun In The Sun Scooter Rentals, Bethany Blues BBQ, Dog Fish Head Brew Pub, and the Nassau Valley Vineyard. The wildlife refuge behind the house was fantastic. Eagles, ospreys, egrets, herons and all kinds of shore birds were everywhere. The water there was filled with crabs. If you want to get away from everything for a few days, this is the place. You still have wifi, cell phone coverage, cable, and you're only 20 minutes from the boardwalk and crowds on the ocean beaches, but you can come back to Prime Hook and be in your own little world. You'll love it.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We stayed here with 4 adults and one dog, between Christmas and New Years holidays. It was SO PEACEFUL and QUIET. Folks are friendly, the house is perfect and roomy. The owner is so accomodating. It is a spectacular location and the snow geese arrived while we were there. They were breathtaking. At one point, I went to Broadkill to show our daughter sights, and as we were driving in, the birds rose as one unit in the air and hovered over the car. The air was filled with their honking and the whooshing of their wings, the noise was deafening, the sight was breathtaking, and as you watched them, the pink sunset over the preserve - WOW!!! Takes your breath away. Saw lots of deer, and several in the family saw foxes. We can't emphasize enough the serenity that we felt. The beach was across the street, and the preserve is behind you with AMAZING sunsets from the house. You can be out in the hustle and bustle of Lewes and Rehoboth and all the shopping, and your drive back in through the preserve just sets your mind up for all the peace and quiet at Prime Hook. We highly recommend this house.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The owner is fantastic to work with, very responsive and considerate. The house is perfect for a family with young children. There is plenty of space for them to play inside and out on the deck. The beach is just across the street and it's a short commute into Rehoboth. We've stayed there in the busy summer and in the fall and both season's it was just as enjoyable. This is the best set up for a quiet trip away!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

If you want a nice, quiet beach vacation this is the place. Plenty of room for comfortable sleeping, lounging and relaxing. The beach is not crowded and water calm. The wildlife refuge is remarkable. A bird watchers delight. The owner is very accommodating and aims to make your stay enjoyable, even your dogs.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. We love the quiet beach and the Wild Life Refuge. The birds that stop by when migrating in Fall and spring are especially beautiful. You are right, a bird watcher's delight. We hope to see you back sometime soon.

Nice, clean, quiet house of beautiful private beach. Surf fishing, bonfires, crabbing, swimming and a wild life refuge right outside the door. Osprey, Bald eagles, Great Blue herons, egrets etc. Neighboring people are friendly but not intrusive. The owner was very wonderful to speak with and great at getting back to you on all questions thru email. We had a good time at your lovely beach house this past week! The kids really loved the tv room, large bedroom & bathroom upstairs all to themselves...and their 'own' deck. =-) We settled right in and made it ours...for the week. It's nice to have room and all the comforts of home while away on vacation. The bay was very clam and people with small children would like it very much. Pretty sunrises over the water! Two places I'd recommend for visitors are, Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes (1/2 hr away). We attended a 'dolphin watch' (call ahead) with the ranger at the nature center then took their van to a site to see them...ok, we didn't actually get to see them that day, but we returned two times to swim at their beach and saw dolphins each time. At this time of the year, the dolphins came down the coast around 10am each morning. Very exciting, and the beach was great too, kids loved the waves! The other recommendation is going about 1 1/2 hrs down to Assateague Island State/National Park. Very worth it; this park has the wild horses that roam around on the island. We went to the visitors center first, got some info and watched a video about the horses and went to the beach, loved it! AND, got some great photos!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, sightseeing.

The beach at Primehook was perfect for our family with small children - no waves lots of nature. We had a blast "rescuing" horseshoe crabs and checking out all of the other creatures here. It is so quiet, we often had the beach to ourselves in July! The house is essentially new, was very clean, and had the basics you need for a nice stay at the beach. This is not a high-falutin' beach community - lots of working class family style, so don't come expecting yuppy amenities. The owner is a pleasure to work with and we were very happy with our stay.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing.

I love the peace and quiet of this lovely community. There is so much to do. We enjoyed biking and kayaking as well as walking the beach. The house is spacious and updated. It is a great place to get away and so close to Lewes and Rhehoboth if you want more action. We love Milton which is just a short drive for groceries and several places to eat.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners.
