'Location, Location, Location!'

Welcome to our old world mountain retreat cottage, located in beautiful Cheyenne Canyon, just 5 blocks from the historic Broadmoor Hotel This is a unique area within Colorado Springs, because it is in the heart of the city, but is an enclave that is at the foohills of the front mountain range, surrounded by nature, where you can see wildlife (deer, foxes, and bear) and truly experience Colorado's rugged outdoors. It is nothing like staying in a city. Although we are less than 10 minutes from downtown, we are worlds apart.

This adorable, light, bright approximately 1000 square foot two bedroom cottage has 'Old World' charm with knotty pine woodwork in much of the house. It borders miles of parks and open spaces and is the perfect spot to explore and experience all the wonders that Colorado Springs has to offer! 'The Canyon' was a small sleepy resort community in years gone by, one of only 2 canyons in Colorado Springs, The homes were mostly built in the 1920's and 1930's and were bungalows and cottages. As the years passed and people discovered this oasis, more homes were built.

Our cottage was built in 1951 & is located on a very quiet dead end street. It is the carriage house next to our house.
The cottage has 2 bedrooms, both on the 2nd floor. The large master bedroom is light and bright with many windows on both sides, overlooking trees & gardens. It has a queen sized bed with a very comfortable mattress. It doesn't have a doorway, but has curtains for privacy. The other bedroom has 2 twin beds with new memory foam mattresses and is a cozy 'a-frame' room built over the garage, perfect for kids. It is not dormered so watch your head. We also have a full size pull out couch which can be opened up in the living room, so we can accomodate up to six people in beds. The living room is kind of tight with the bed opened... The living room, eat-in kitchen and bathroom are all on the first floor.

The private fenced in patio area has a gas barbeque, as well as a patio table and chairs for al fresco dining.
One of the highlights of the property is the side garden, which is currently in bloom with gorgeous roses, peonies, lillies and bleeding hearts. Feel free to enjoy your morning coffee in this oasis. This side garden is adjacent to our yard, and we do go into it as needed to weed and water and occasionally walk through. If you go into the garden, you may be greeted by our 3 Corgis, DeeDee, Dover and Ginger (all rescues) who will welcome you... They're very friendly and would love to be petted and get to know you...

The living room is furnished with a sleeper sofa and a comfy chair. It isn't huge, but is cozy! There are TVs in each bedroom & there is a new 40' Flat Screen Toshiba LCD TV in the Living room with full cable service. We are also set up for wireless internet access so you can sit outside in the lovely garden or in the private patio and surf the web.

The decor is contemporary with earth tones and oak hardwood floors throughout (no carpeting at all). There is a full eat-in kitchen with an oak table and chairs, flat top electric stove and a dishwasher. There is everything you could need for a fun vacation! There are new air-conditioners in both bedrooms and the living room (which cool the whole place), but summer evenings in Colorado tend to be cooler, so it cools down beautifully at night.

The property is a short five block walk to the Stratton Open Space Preserve where you can walk on miles of trails, enjoy wonderful hiking, biking and exploring. Walking westward towards the mountains along Cheyenne Blvd, is a lovely coffee shop, a nice place to stop for a capuccino or mocha before continuing on into Cheyenne Canyon Park and the Starsmore Discovery center (an educational nature center, great for children of all ages), with miles of hikes along Cheyenne Creek. If you drive into the canyon, the beauty will astound you! Seven Falls and Helen Hunt Falls are located right down the road a bit deeper into Cheyenne Canyon and both are incredibly beautiful For a shot of old world elegance, walk to the five star Broadmoor hotel, an historic resort that is a wonderful place to go for a drink or a meal or just to walk around the gorgeous grounds!

We are less than ten minutes from historic Old Colorado City and fifteen minutes from exciting Manitou Springs with their wonderful restaurants, shopping, supermarkets and galleries. Garden of the Gods park, with its exquisite red rock formations, is a must see and it is less than 10 minutes away with a fantastic visitor's center. Downtown Colorado Springs is just a hop, skip and jump away, as well... The Air Force Academy is about 25 minutes north of us, and Colorado College is about 10 minutes away in the downtown area. The Olympic Training Center is east of us and less than a fifteen minute drive. There is also a beautiful zoo less than 10 minutes away. There are many fabulous day trips less than 2 hours from us, including the drive up Pikes Peak, marvellilng at the Royal Gorge, rafting on the Arkansas river, soaking in hotsprings, exploring Cave of the Winds, and visiting the Cliff-dwelling museum, all great entertainment for kids.

This property has off street parking for several cars and can also accomodate a medium sized RV. The main parking area is off Scott St, but if you have a larger truck or if you are in your RV, let us know and we have another parking spot that is much easier to navigate in a larger vehicle...

Cancellation Policy: 100% refund if cancellation is 60 days or more before arrival date. Cancelling 30-60 days before arrival date will result in forfeit of deposit. Cancelling within 30 days of arrival date is non-refundable unless we are able to re-book those days. There is a $50.00 processing fee for any cancellation

We had such a great time visiting a few weeks ago! The cottage was perfect and the owner was attentive and really nice. The place was adorable and super clean. The photos didn't do it justice! The owner was helpful in answering questions and was always there to help. Hiking was only a short drive away and the Cheyenne Canyon Zoo was one of the best zoos we've seen!

Mark was very easy to work with and made sure we had everything we needed for our three day stay. The house and property were even better in person than the pictures on the web site. The property was very neat, clean and well maintained. We were a short drive from Cheyenne Canyon, which had many trails to walk and explore. Our favorite place to eat was Cheddar's off I-25 at exit 153 near the Air Force Academy. We would highly recommend this outstanding property to anyone.

Our vacation was incredible. The cottage was very clean, cozy, and inviting. The neighborhood was quiet, private, and tucked away right along side the mountains. The location itself is great. Minutes away from Seven Falls, lots of restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations, and other attractions. The owners are extremely friendly and very easy to work with. They are great people. This was by far the best get away I have ever had. We will be back as soon as we can and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. This is truly wonderful!

Our family of 5 stayed at the cottage for a week. The cottage was exceptionally clean and the owners attention to details really make this place feel like home. The cottage is quaint and very charming. We enjoyed the quality furnishings and comfortable beds. Great selections of DVDs, books and games for guest use. The location is great for visiting all of the area attractions.

We spent 18 nights in this cottage and enjoyed it's central location to the Colorado Springs area. The owners take very good care of the unit and it is stocked with everything you could want to make your stay comfortable. We were in town visiting the World Arena so we didn't get out and do too much of the tourist thing but did hit a few restaurants in the area. We'll certainly be back the next time we visit the Springs.

We thoroughly enjoyed this quaint cottage. The owners have done a great job decorating and providing colorful household items to create a relaxing and peaceful environment. We were regularly surprised by the number of deer and other wildlife around the cabin. It was helpful to have the clear directions for taking care of the place as well as to local attractions.

Great place to stay! We found the house a perfect fit for us. The location couldn't be beaten. Close to the canyon for terrific hiking, evenings in Old Colorado City, and convenient to all the main roadways to see the city without ANY noise!

The cottage proved to be perfect for our needs: Within easy walking/driving distance of our conference at the Broadmoor; comfortably furnished with anything we could possibly need; great CATV & wifi, to watch the convention & to get work done; nice washer/dryer to launder everything before hitting the road;well equipped kitchen if you wish to cook; located in a beautiful, quiet wooded setting. The owner responds instantly by text to any question you may have but in our 4 nights there he was invisible, and we finally met him and the 3 pups as we were loading the car at departure. The only caveat is you must be able to do stairs for the bedrooms, with the only bath on the main. Not a problem for us, but something to consider. Thanks for a wonderful stay! We'll be back if ever again in Colorado Springs.

Owner response: Thanks so much for your lovely review! We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay and (at the last minute) we got to meet each other and you got to meet our corgis... We try to give our guests total privacy, but it's always a pleasure to meet such lovely people. Stay with us any time! Thanks! Mark and Ger

Not that this property necessarily needs another glowing endorsement, but by all means let me add my 5 stars and my thanks to the property owners for providing the perfect setting for our trip to Colorado Springs for a family vacation. I looked at a lot of rental properties on line, there are so many to choose from, but I am soooo glad I didn't choose a different location. Within minutes of arriving at the cottage and bringing our bags inside my family all looked at me and said "You did GOOD!!". It surpassed our expectations, from being totally cozy and picturesque to completely equipped with everything you could possibly need, plus board games, a nice selection of books, fully stocked kitchen, grilling tools, TV's, wahser and dryer, tasteful linens and decorations..... I could go on forever. My favorite thing about the house was the windows that look out on the owner's beautiful gardens. We slept every night with the windows open and enjoyed the cool, crisp air. (Did I mention we were visiting from Houston!) This is such a great location for walking, running, hiking and is a minute or two from the Broadmoor, Helen Hunt and Seven Falls. Perfect spot. It is secluded and private, yet close to everything you need. The outdoor patio is a great spot for grilling and hanging out in the evening. One word of advice is to be mindful of how close the neighboring houses are for the noise factor. One small issue was that we had a family get together with 7 people (a bit boisterous, admitedly) which drew a noise complaint from neighbors at 9:30pm on a Saturday night. The owner called me and was very nice about it, and we immediately toned it down. Not a big deal, but just something to keep in mind if you are out on the patio. Maybe take a group to the Golden Bee or Bristol Brewing Co...both are very close. This is a no brainer pick for our next trip to Colorado Springs. Hopefully, they will have us back. ;)

This cottage was PERFECT for our week long stay in Colorado Springs! The property was very well maintained and clean when we arrived. The photos actually do not do justice to the property! Our group consisted of my young daughters, myself and my elderly mother (plus two dogs). We were centrally located, so many attractions were within driving distance. When we went rafting( and Mom could not go), she was comfortable staying back at the cottage and enjoying the beautiful Colorado weather and gorgeous flowers planted around. Mark was a courteous host, and promptly answered the phone when I had questions. He was on his own (very deserved!) vacation when we arrived, but still responded to my calls. Thank-you!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet, quaint cottage and a central location.

                          Owner info

                          Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: Pardon the corny photo from X-Mas last year at our daughter's house... We have 3 Corgi dogs of our own, all rescued from the Humane Society, and our daughter has a 4th Corgi, also a rescue... We take our 3 pups with us where-ever we can, and they love taking long hikes with us around the Cheyenne Canyon area. We have been married for close to 30 years. We lived in New York City for our first 35+ years, and have lived in Colorado for the past 18 years. We love it here! (You will too!)

Why the Owner Chose Colorado Springs:
We purchased this wonderful property because we wanted to share our love for Cheyenne Canyon with others... It is a country getaway right in the city. We had fallen in love with Cheyenne Canyon park and its miles and miles of hiking and biking trails and when this property came up for sale, we couldn't resist

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This canyon is surrounded by open spaces. We have 3 Corgi dogs (all rescue dogs, adopted at the Colorado Springs Humane Society), and we take them hiking up into the surrounding parks and mountains. We love the proximity to all that Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City and Manitou have to offer, yet feel as though we are living in a mountain getaway, miles from civilization!
