Great Memorial Day Weekend Stay
Great Memorial Day Weekend Stay

A group of friends and I got together at this home for Memorial Day and couldn't have asked for a better stay. Perfectly located between Boston and New York, the two cities my party came from, we all arrived Friday evening to be blown away by the size and privacy of the home. We didn't leave the property all weekend, soaking in the sun during the day, while paddling around on the boats the home owner so graciously provided and at night we huddled around the fire pit- where the wood was also stacked up and ready to go for our stay. When we first walked in, we were a bit worried that the house wouldn't have NBC Sports Network so we could watch the Rangers- Devils game- but they did! The house overall was great- we couldn't have asked for anything better to spend the Memorial Day weekend.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers.

Amazing. We lucked out with the unseasonably warm March 2012 weather so we could take full advantage of all the amenities this house has to offer. Bonfires by the lake, gently drifting on the canoe, tossing horseshoes, shooting hoops, and whacking baseballs as hard as you can hit 'em are some of the many things me and some of my friends did on the premises. Half of us came up from NYC via MetroNorth to ShoreLineEast to Guilford. From the train station to the house is a mere $20 cab ride. Oh, and Guilford is only a hop, skip, and a jump from great New Haven pizza (Pepe's, Sally's, Modern, and Bar to name four). The owner is very nice and easily accessible and even has a caretaker in the apt below the house available for emergencies, etc. This was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime thing but a couple of my friends enjoyed the location so much we're talking about making it an annual mission.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

My family of five rented this home for a month and had a great time! The house was well stocked with anything we might have needed. The deck and various docks were perfect for a place to read or relax. The kids loved the lake and foosball table. The fishing, swimming, and hiking in the area is top notch! The owners were great to work with and genuinely wanted us to have a good time. This house made for such a great vacation, we can't wait to come back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

My husband and I searched high and low for the perfect place to spend my 30th birthday that would fit both of our personalities and we found it in Guilford On the Lake. I loved being able to get away from the city and the noise and be surrounded by nature but still able to get out and be active. We saw the pictures and it looked gorgeous. I was immediately interested but nothing prepared us for the breathtaking views when we arrived. I tried all week to take pictures that captured how beautiful it was but I just couldn't create one that compared to being there in person. Another couple did join us one night and there was plenty of room for us all to do our own thing as well as all gather around the table for meals or in the living room to play board games. We did get a chance to take advantage of the fire pit, we got a fire going and ate at the outside picnic table. Doesn't matter what time of year, anyone can enjoy this beautiful lake property. OH! and there are some fun wine vineyards in the area and lots of great hiking around the lake!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My wife and my five year old stayed at this amazing property not too long ago to visit relatives, and we had an amazing time! It snowed while were there and it was beautiful. I took my son sledding and we made a snowman as a family. My son had the time of his life. We walked around the lake while it was snowing and it was a winter wonderland. It was a time my family and I will never forget. We will definitely be going there again very soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family and I travel a lot and this was our first time in Connecticut staying in Guilford. We came in for the holiday. Let me say it was beyond amazing staying in this home. It is not only a home but a gracious property. My children loved seeing the wildlife and having bonfires at night. The owners were more than accommodating. If we ever had a question they were always one phone call away and ready to help. Our friends were only a short car ride from our place so we would have them over to walk around the lake. I was a great time. I can not see how anyone would have a bad time. I recommend this home to everyone. I am looking forward to staying here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Only 2 bedrooms in the home; only 1 queen bed in one of the bedrooms; not given 2 queen beds as promised; the sun room did not have heating; we had a big group coming in to day; we all had to leave because the unit was not as advertised and it was inconvenient to stay with the kids. The listing was changed since we visited after we filed a dispute with the rental provider.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/6

Our entire family spent the holiday at this amazing property and could not have been more pleased. We all agreed that it was the best vacation ever and renting this home made that happen. We had children ranging from 2 – 18 years old and there was something for all of them … the dock, kayaks, fuse ball, row boat, and bonfire – truly kept everyone happy. My family loved being able to just step outside the house and be able to go fish or on the boats. At night we would have bonfires and star gaze. It is an amazing property and a one of a kind experience we look forward to having again. Also, the owner is beyond wonderful and helpful. I’d recommend renting this home and we’d all rent it again in a heart beat!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and my two children stayed at this amazing property not to long ago and had an amazing time. Every morning we would take long walks around the lake to start off the morning right. When we booked this home for vacation we had no idea how many fish were actually in the lake, we found out really fast. Our children were catching fish non-stop for days. It was so nice to see them smiling and having a great time with each other. Even our dog Sparky had a great time swimming with the kids in the lake. We will definitely stay here again! I highly recommend this to everyone!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
