This was the perfect spot to get away from it all. I can?t remember the last time I woke up to birds singing. While we were here we got to see whales, dolphins and lots of tropical fish, and we loved the neighbourhood geckos and mongoose.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is our second year in this cottage. We liked it so much last year we returned and stayed 6 weeks!. We already booked for next year. Another 6 weeks! Why? The cottage is simple yet tastefully decorated. When all the fabric blinds are opened the harmonious view of the inside with the outside gardens opens the small cottage up. The well kept gardens and the privacy wall around it. The close proximally to the beach, sunset and snorkeling. The friendly people. Martha and Leonard care. I am an artist and paint while I am in Kona. They supplied (without me asking for it) a special table on the lanai for me to use. What a great place to paint.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Mahalo nui for your amazing review. We appreciate seeing you each year, and knowing that the cottage is being fully enjoyed. This is such an incredible place to be in, and I think your review sums it up perfectly. We will see you in December.

My husband and I have visited the Big Island every year for the past 20 years staying in various places in and around Kona and Kealakekua Bay. We have stayed many times on the Bay but Dolphin Bay Cottage was very special and Manini beach is now a wonderful place to swim, relax and enjoy sunsets. We were able to enjoy vegetables from the community garden and Esperanza is a wonderful historian and takes great pride in watching over her beloved Manini Beach. The Cottage was wonderful and was exactly like the description and the pictures; it was clean, comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed to prepare our tropical meals. It is very quiet on this side of the Bay and the traffic is very minimal. You will wake to the sounds of the ocean and the birds chirping. The outside table was nice for morning breakfast and our evening meals. We walked to Manini Beach for early morning swims and spent the evenings watching sunsets out on the point. (literally a 2 minute walk) Kealakekua Bay and Manini Beach are both very special places and we enjoyed our stay very much. We are of course already planning our next trip; we will be making it a family reunion with our adult children and grandchildren. Thank-you Krista for making our stay very enjoyable by having the Cottage perfectly ready for our arrival!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Mahalo nui for this wonderful review of Dolphin Bay Cottage. It sounds like you took full advantage of all the wonderful things to do especially at Manini Beach. The outdoor table does make for a nice place to sit and have morning tea or coffee while watching the bay awaken or settle down for the evening. Great to know that you?ll be back, and again mahalo for the review and information that lets our future guests know what a special place the cottage is.

My husband and I were guests in this delightful cottage in February, 2012 and loved every minute. It is cute, tastefully and conveniently decorated, open, light, and very well supplied. The kitchen had every essential, including condiments and a few basic supplies which I appreciated. The bed is comfortable, everything is immaculately clean and easy to keep clean. There are beach towels, barbeque & tools, cleaning supplies and the hosts were wonderfully willing to accommodate any requests we had. We made good use of the suggested restaurants and brochures Martha provided in a notebook in the cottage. Our favorite restaurant was the Beach Tree at tne Four Seasons Hotel. We particularly enjoyed the Blane's beautiful yard/garden and had fun having breakfast outside where neighbors walked by and offered greetings. The very close private beach park and its caretaker are friendly - locals meet there each evening to view the sunset and enjoy a beverage. The only drawback was February's high surf which was a bit too much for us to swim in. It was great to look at! We recommend a boat/snorkel tour for swimming in Kealakekua Bay. The neighborhood feels remote, (the four mile drive down the hill is a bit of a thrill) and the nights are dark which makes star-gazing perfect. I suggest bringing a star map, and a small flashlight for walking in the dark. Our most memorable excursion was the tour to the observatories on Mauna Kea. It is well worth the cost...the best star-viewing on the planet; truly not to be equaled anywhere else! We look forward to returning to the cottage or to renting the adjacent Dolphin Bay House on another trip. And we count the Blanes as wonderful new friends and superb hosts.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, people with disabilities, families with young children.

It was our first trip to Hawaii and we stayed in this beautiful cottage for 8 nights. We absolutely loved the location, nearby sandy beach, dolphin bay and only 30 minutes to Kailua-Kona. The cottage was very comfy-lovely big kitchen-fully equipped (we are smoothie lovers, so having a blender in place we spoiled ourselves with Hawaiian fruit smoothies!). Martha and her husband were extremely nice and helpful making our stay just perfect! Thank you for this little corner of heaven!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Dear Martha and Leonard, We join the list of Washingtonians who have felt right at home in your cute cottage! Thank you both for your generous hospitality, for bananas and papayas, chirping birds and lovely gardens; plus all the amenities of this special little house. It is indeed perfect. We appreciated the good advice on beaches and restaurants also. We had a wonderful time! Above all, we count the two of you as new friends and look forward to coming back for another sojourn in paradise.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay on the big island at the Dolphin Bay Cottage could not have been more perfect! Our entire experience was magical and exceeded any expectation we could have had. We left feeling sad that our stay was over but have taken with us many beautiful visions and new found friends from the village by the bay. The paved route to Manini beach allowed us many visits- while in a wheelchair-what a gift to start and end each day staring out at the gorgeous bay. Thank-you for sharing this awesome little cottage with us. We can,t wait for a return visit, hopefully, sooner rather than later!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, people with disabilities.
