The Mani, at the tip of Greece's—and Europe's—southernmost promontory, is one of the most isolated regions of the world. Cut off from the rest of the country by the towering range of the Taygetus and hemmed in by the Aegean and Ionian seas, it is a land where the past is still very much a part of its people's daily lives. The scenery is dazzling in a stark and powerful sense. Rocky hillsides with fascinating shapes descend to caves, jewel-shining seas and quiet enclaves. Mani stretches from Gythio to Cape Tainaro the mythical entrance to the underworld. It is a wild landscape and maybe nowhere in Greece does a region seem so close to its medieval past.
The villa is built in simple Mani (stone) style, around 250 sq, built around 1770 with its wood fire oven intact and as the house is in a tranquil place far way from anything else, cooking is a must here! This super kitchen serves as a must for quiet evenings in with lots of wine, good food, board gams and great friends. The bedrooms all have en suite bathrooms (the master bath tub/rain shower). The outdoor dining is perfect for the summer or huddled by the fire in the winter! Areopoli town is 15 minutes away and is a must see with beautiful cafes, taverns and small bars.

I visited Mani during early summer of 2012 and my whole impression is great! The stone villa I stayed with my friends was absolutely awesome, very cleand and very well maintained. The view was so nice and so relaxing and I wish I could visit this place again soon. Special thanks to Chiana for her recommendations especially for the fish ones! Thank youDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I cam here with my friends for Easter and it was the best choice we could have made! Super private, relax and chill out which was exactly what we wanted!! Kitchen is AMAZING (gagganeu) and the bedrooms are all great with stone walls and en suite bathrooms!!! The village near by in Aeropoli is fantastic with super bars if your in the mood to do things apart from relax, my favourite is called Bucca. Great tips from the owner as to where to eat etc and they all know her so it makes things even better! I would definitely be back again!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This place is magical. I came with my two kids and some friends and although the weather was a little cold, we enjoyed every minute. Chiana's recommendations of where to eat and sight see were very helpful and the house was perfect and with tons of space for my energetic little boys to run around! Thanks Chiana for a great time!Owner response: Thank you Olga!

I came here with my girlfriend for our anniversary. We both recently quit smoking so wanted to come somewhere clean and ideal for walking and breathing in fresh air! The villa is superb, everything we could ask for .Private as private comes in the middle of a mountain with only the sound of the wind in the trees! The views are great, behind me was mountains, in front the ocean and the vegetation is beautiful. My favourite part of the house was the kitchen. Aside from being top notch quality (gagganeau), it was a prefect place for me and my girlfriend to cook every night and crack open the vino! Thank you chiana for a wonderful stay and for your advice on the restaurants, we will def be back here!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I came and stayed here 3 weeks ago with 4 other friends. We wanted to find a place in the mainland of Greece that was private, in the middle of no where and close to a beach! This private villa is exactly this, a wonderful place to be with good friends, good food and good wine! The kitchen is superb for cooking, the bedrooms are super comfortable and the house is extremely private with nothing surrounding it but mountains and the view of the sea. There is a small town near by that looks like a forgotten era with a small piazza, cafes and the old men playing tavli and drinking coffee. We simply loved it here and would definitely come back! Thank you also Chiana for letting us know all your juicy secrets of where to go and how to say some basic things in Greek!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: I am so glad you enjoyed it!!!!

About the owner: I spend my time between Mani - Athens - Mykonos and when it all gets a little too crazy I hide out here, sleep, read my favourite books and go in to the town to see my local buddies. This place is truly unique and I doubt you will be in any way disappointed!!! Let me know if you need local tips, I would be glad to help!
Why the Owner Chose Gythion:
It's a hideaway/getaway retreat in a mountain in the middle of tranquility! All you can hear is the sound of the birds and the bells of the goats nearby. The property is really private and there are no other properties near it. The views in front of the sea and the vast mountains behind add contrast. The kitchen is phenomenal for cooking and hanging out with friends and the fireplace in the winter with wine and board games is also perfect. The summer and winter have incredible hikes you can choose from, water sports, caves, cycling, and of course tavernas serving fresh fish and Greek village metas cooked in traditional pots!
