A few minutes’ walk to the Capitol building, Senate and House buildings, the U.S. Botanical Garden, Smithsonian Institution museums, the Mall, Stanton Park, Lincoln Park and Eastern Market. Restaurant row is one block away on Massachusetts Avenue.
Capitol Hill is one of Washington DC's most historic districts. Pierre L'Enfant described the crest of the hill as 'a pedestal waiting for a monument' and shortly afterward, in 1793, George Washington laid the first cornerstone of the United States Capitol building, which now stands facing the city and the National Mall. Behind the Capitol building is the Supreme Court and the Library of Congress. Union Station, at the northern end of Capitol Hill, is not only Washington DC's main rail terminal, but also one of the most popular tourist attractions due to its recent renovation.
Union Station, Washington's main rail terminal, was designed to act as a monumental gateway to the nation's capital city and is located conveniently close to the U.S. Capitol Building, the National Mall and other attractions such as the National Gallery of Art. Since extensive renovation in the 1980s, the Union Station building now houses cafes, restaurants, and stores. Points of interest within Union Station include the carefully restored main waiting room, a 96 foot chamber with gold-leaf ceiling, that is now used for Balls and other festive events and the Presidential waiting room in the East hall. Just outside Union Station are the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building and National Postal Museum.

The house was a success for all 7 of us....five adults and 2 children, ages 11 and 6. The location affords easy access to Capitol Hill, Union Station, the Metro and the Circulator Bus....a good way to get to Georgetown. The property manager was helpful prior to our arrival with questions about local restaurants and markets. All the requisite amenities were available and the house was clean and well maintained. Minor concerns were related to the tv (no Mad Men to which we are addicted) and flickering lightbulbs. A bit more seating in the living room for large families would be good...but otherwise, this is a fine place to stay in DC.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My group and I had a fantastic stay in this lovely townhouse right next to Union Station. We were easily able to walk to the National Mall and hop the metro to get downtown. The house was in great condition when we arrived, and Maura Nippert was a very helpful booking manager. She provided our group with additional parking permits to park on the street in Capitol Hill. Everything that we expected was at the house, and we had enough space for our 10 person group. The basement apartment was perfect for entertaining a medium sized group with bar and fridge space. Loved everything about our stay and we would come back again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

I did not realize how close we would be to the Senate Buildings. Very tastefully done. Even the tiny third bedroom was nice although small.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

I rented this home for a large group of distant family and friends. The house was very clean in the areas that were visible to the eye. Unfortunately there was lots of dust under the chairs and dirty dishes were waiting in the dishwasher for us when we arrived. Although, everyone in the group complained that sound traveled easily through the house, everyone was also seemingly happy with their living quarters and agreed that was a good house for our large group. I for one was very pleased that I could use a code to enter the door, instead meeting someone at 5am to gain entry. An added perk to staying at this rental is that it is very close to public transportation and many food options.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for letting us know about the dust and dishwasher condition when you arrived. We will certainly work with our housekeeper to be sure that this doesn't happen again in the future.

The location of this house is ideal for touring the city. You are a 3-minute walk from Union Station, which has a metro stop, trains (of course), shopping, and tons of restaurants--from sit-down to fast-food. The Thunder Grill was yummy for a sit-down meal, and Chipotle, Au Bon Pain, and the Mediterranean places were also favorites for a faster meal. For our large group, having all these options so close was incredibly convenient. The house was cozy and had everything we needed. We rented both the main house and the bottom apartment. The beds had high-quality sheets and were very comfortable. The towels seemed new, and we had plenty of them. Everything was clean. Keep in mind that the houses here share walls, so you can hear neighbors. In general though, the house and neighborhood were very quiet--and we were there over New Year's! Our house contacts were very communicative and responsive. We all agreed that renting the house really made our vacation much easier and more enjoyable. We were able to spend comfortable family time together, spend less money on food, and have enough room to get quiet time as needed.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This property is incredibly close to Union Station, Capitol Hill, and everything you want to see in DC. The neighborhood was my biggest concern - its quiet, incredibly safe, and full of tasty restaurants. There are two markets within a couple of blocks, as well as a liquor store, gas station...Really couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. And the property manager is really helpful and friendly. I would stay here again in a heart beat.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This was an ideal space for my family and extended family to stay in DC. Big house, beautifully decorated and furnished, lots of space for everyone, and a big dining table for people to gather around. Maura, the property manager, couldn't have been more helpful or responsive during the booking process and the rental period. I highly recommend this property!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with young children.
