It's tiny, as the other reviewers have mentioned, but the view from the hot tub is everything. Definitely worth the price & I absolutely would rent this place again. If you're lucky enough to be there when it's warm & dry, strolling down to the beach, BBQing on the deck, watching the sunset, you'll be in heaven. One note about the bathroom: in order to get in, you have to walk around to the front of the shack, & there are residences right across the street. It's not super private. Small price to pay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We spent three days for our honeymoon and the weather was perfect!! Who knew you could lay out and get tan in October in oregon! The shack was small but perfect for us, and we spent most of our time on the beach or in the hot tub anyway, the only thing that was new and alittle hard to get used to was the composting toilet, a little nasty but you get used to it. Definately hard to leave and go back to portland.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: It is truly amazing on these warm sunny days at the Surf Shack! So private, quiet and out of the wind. The composting toilet has a bit of an organic smell (mostly peat moss) and that is why we put it in a separate building. Thank you for the feedback and we are glad your stay was incredible! As long as you understand the surf shack is, indeed, a shack-- it is wonderful. The sleeping area is not what you are buying, it is the million dollar view. The owners were friendly and accommodating to any requests. Just realize the only cooking area is an outdoors propane grill. You will not be cooking gourmet meals here- but soaking in the hot tub and listening to the waves is just incredible. As long as you are realistic about the lodging-- this is just wonderful.Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

A great time for the two of us and our dog. Away from the crowds, but close to everything. Beautiful location on the beach. The best part was watching the whales with a glass of wine while sitting on our private cliff above the beach! This place is perfect for the minimalist and outdoorsy type that still want a little bit of comfort. Best hot tub views on the coast by far.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Shack Instructions/Rules: Is the Surf Shack right for you? Staying at the Surf Shack is a “Yurt Style Camping” experience. The Shack is small, but the views, the yard, hot tub, beach and the outdoor space is unbeatable. This is a place to relax, hear only the ocean, unplug from the busy world and go with the flow. Situated on an ocean front cliff the Surf Shack is not very kid friendly, unless you keep a close watch in them. The size & “off the grid” nature of the Shack allows for only 2 adventurist guests at a time. Parking- there is plenty of space to park. Please be sure NOT to block our neighbor’s garage to the north or the street as there is one more house at the end of the road. Key Location- Call around noon on the day of your check in for key location. Be sure NOT to lock your self out! The door will lock if you pull it shut. I recommend folks leave the key in the door until they have time to inspect the lock to understand how it works. Hot Tub- Do NOT sit or stand on the hot tub cover, it will break and you will be charged $400 for a new cover. When removing the cover, keep it on the deck, do NOT set it on the ground. Keep all pets, sand, wetsuits and bodies covered in lotion or oils out of the hot tub. I quick rinse in the shower before entering the hot tub will keep the water clean and nice. If you leave the cover off the hot tub indefinitely it will not stay hot, ALWAYS put the cover back on after each soak. Also, the jets must be off for the heater to be on. Panels that roll down around deck- feel free to roll the panels up and down, they can provide extra privacy as well as protection from wind & rain. If they start flapping around in the wind they can become dangerous, please use the bungees on the bottom to secure them and keep them from flapping. If the wind is too strong for the bungees to hold the panels in place it is time to roll them up. At check out time ALWAYS leave the panels in the position you found them in when you checked in. Composting Toilet- There are instructions on the wall near the toilet but the basics are: human waste & TP is the ONLY thing allowed in the toilet. Do NOT place tampons, diapers or anything else in the toilet, especially liquids (don’t pour water or coffee or anything like that in it). Shower & Hot Water- To use the shower push the lever up and to the LEFT, this is the position for full on & hot. This is not like a normal shower were you can adjust the water temp, it is either on and hot or off. When you push the lever to the top LEFT position you should hear the water heater (which is located on the wall near the toilet) begin to hum and the red digital water temp numbers should begin to raise. If this does not happen with the shower in the top LEFT position it means there is not enough water flowing thru the water heater for it to turn on, To remedy this simply turn the hot water all the way ON at the sink, the combined water flow will kick on the water heater. Now you can turn off the sink and enjoy your shower. *The shower temp can be adjusted by moving the knob on the water heater itself. Be carful and patient when doing this, 1/8” turn will change the water temp by 10 degrees, and it changes very slowly. It is not recommended to adjust the water temp as you can burn yourself! Cooking- for OUTDOOR use only a gas grill is provided . Additionally a coffee pot, toaster, 2 burner hot plate & mini fridge are in the cabin. The plastic dresser on the deck has plates, cups, silverware, table cloth and a few pot/pans. There is also a grilling grate near the fire pit. *A kitchen utensil list is available upon request. TV- The TV must be set to “input” setting “HDMI1”. Once you see a clear picture the DirecTV remote will change the channels. Wifi- There is a wifi signal called “Ossies Surf Shop” that is nearby, it works best on the deck and needs no passwords. Enjoy your stay!
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.

About the owner: We truly believe Otter Rock is a little slice of heaven on earth, come and visit and you will see why we feel this way.
Why the Owner Chose Otter Rock:
This is the most beautiful place on the planet, seriously. Add in the fact that it is quiet, private, out of the wind and a lot sunnier and warmer than most places on the Oregon coast and you will see for your self this place is amazing.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Watching the surfers, kayakers, whales and all that happens on the beach from your comfortable perch up above. Or a short walk to join them!
