Spacious Architect Designed Clapboard House on 17 Secluded Acres W. Pool.
- Minimum stay:3-7 nights

- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
The house is accessed from a small dirt road, part of a network of nearby like roads, wonderful for walking, running and biking. At the top of the driveway, the views to the north west are breath taking, but the house itself and the pool are nestled in a grassy meadow down hill of the road for privacy.
The inside is open in plan with a large eat in kitchen (fully equipped) giving onto an double height dining room which in turns opens onto the living room. Stairs and a gallery connecting the bedrooms above flank one wall of the central dining space. A ground floor guest room and full bath are handicapped accessible via the adjacent one car garage. On the second floor there are 3 double bedrooms, one bunk room that sleeps 3, a TV room/office that sleeps 2 and two full baths each w. double sinks, one with a jacuzzi and a separate shower.
There is an enclosed breakfast porch off the kitchen, a screened porch off the living room and a several decks.
Weddings: The house is ideal as a home base for a wedding party. Small weddings and/or rehearsal dinners for up to 40 people can happen within the house itself. Larger weddings require a tent to be installed on the lawn. We have had both kinds. The open kitchen is ideal for caterers, and trhere is plenty of parking on site in the field above the house. Wedding parties are required to take the house for a whole week, and there is an additional fee of $1000 for a wedding party.

We stayed in this house for a long weekend at the beginning of winter with three families. Had a great time and was able to use the sleds provided to go sledding - the kids had a blast. The house was clean and tidy and owner is very accommodating having basic food supplies (including herbs etc) provided. We all felt very relaxed in this homely environment and would love to come back and visit in the summer.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We spent our entire summer in this wonderful well-designed and well-equiped house. The beautiful grounds deliver a quiet setting and exceptional privacy. The swimming pool and loan provided the perfect playground for our visiting grandchildren, while the adjacent field was used to fly their kites. We had fun walking to the nearby waterfalls and enjoyed the occasional visits of deer by the old majestic apple trees. The owner is truly charming and was very helpful and responsive. Overall, a highly recommended restful getaway and a great base to experience the wonders of nature as well as the cultural richness the Berkshires have to offer. We have held many of our family reunions at this beautiful home in Southfield, Mass. for the past seven years, in all seasons, and each time we wish we could stay longer. The house is always immaculately clean, all appliances and utilities in great working order and our large family has plenty of room to spread out. We love using the fireplace in the cozy living room in fall and winter and the access to nearby skiing, hiking, Tanglewood, and good restaurants in Great Barrington. There's a charming cafe a few minutes away where we sometimes go for coffee or a terrific casual meal. The new pool is a wonderful addition with its beautiful gazebo and luxurious chaise lounges. The many terraces are fabulous in summer and we eat our meals either on the screened porch, the back garden patio or under the fruit-laden apple trees. This is the only home I've rented where the owner is gracious enough to give us use of lovely silver, china, linens as well as antique and designer tables and furniture. The house has an elegant, rustic character, filled with interesting art and the grounds are magnificent in every season. If it's your first visit we suggest getting there in daylight as the roads are easier to identify. We're already planning our next visit -- can't wait!Did you find this review helpful? Our family's Christmas retreat

Our large extended family has been spending the two weeks of the holiday at this house for 11 years. The house itself is lovely, set to provide privacy but also to take advantage of stunning views. And it's clearly a home where interesting people spend time. We appreciate the Turkish rugs, the fascinating books and the great CD collection. And we manage to turn out Christmas dinners for large groups just like we would at home. Like any home, it does have its quirks, like doorknobs coming off. But any problems we've had over the years have been quickly addressed. The location can't be beat. There's plenty of room to sled and build snow forts on the property itself. And it's minutes from the classic New England villages of Southfield, New Marlborough, and Monterey, which offer great food and summer cultural events, in spite of their tiny size. Great Barrington is 20 minutes away if you want to see a movie or visit a mall. We love it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed here over MLK weekend in 2011. The owner was prompt in her response to our inquiry and provided detailed directions, house instructions, emergency contacts etc. The house was clean on arrival, there was ample bedding, and dishes, cutlery, cooking equipment etc.(all clean and neatly stowed). We enjoyed the spacious dining room (we were 3 couples with 4 kids and a dog), lazing by the fire, gorgeous views, excellent snow-shoeing on the property and the quiet and seclusion. It was an ideal house for a long weekend break and we quickly resolved to book again for the same weekend and President's Day weekend in 2012. We have rented several properties and our standards are pretty high. Within our group we boast a hausfrau, a germophobe and a gourmet cook. No complaints. This was easily one of the nicest houses we've rented and the owner one of the easiest to deal with.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

In the 11 years of renting our house we have never had a complaint on any subject and we have had many families return year after year. It is true that this one time we failed to clean the ovens. But the rest is unfounded. On their departure, by way of thanks, this family left furniture strewn all over the lawn, sodden towels to rot in the chest by the pool, and children's soiled band aids in the pool. Please disregard this comment if you can. Thank you.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My family rented this property to celebrate my mothers 65th birthday. Upon arriving, we found the house absolutely filthy. Here are a few examples: - Dirt and crumbs all over the surfaces (tables, chairs, banisters, bathrooms, etc.), it took me, my sister, and my brother 3+ hours to clean - All (literally all) dishes and silverware (including the drawers they were in!) were dirty with large pieces of food crusted on - There was trash on the floor in the kitchen, and the fridge had not been washed in months (if that) Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. Note: The best part of the property is the pool and backyard, but it was freezing cold and contained several dead frogs and mice that we had to clean out.Did you find this review helpful?
