Tourrettes-sur-Loup villa description
Perched high in the hills above the Mediterranean Sea lies the cobblestoned medieval village of Tourrettes-sur-Loup. Within its ancient ramparts, one finds the Mas du Cassan, a stunning villa boasting breathtaking views and terraced fields of fruit trees and flower-filled gardens.
A few minutes’ walk from the leafy village square, the Mas du Cassan is hidden behind a stone wall along one of the old village streets. Upon opening the door to the property, the effect is truly magical. To the right is a view of the medieval village that seems to teeter on the ramparts of a cliff. In front are terraced plateaus descending to a valley that sweeps out to the Mediterranean. To the left is a former vineyard enclosed behind a stone wall that slopes down to the Cassan, a mountain stream.
The Mas du Cassan sleeps 6 in three bedrooms. Two bedrooms have double beds; a third bedroom has two twin beds. There is a pull-out couch in the upstairs family TV room for a possible seventh person. The master bedroom and adjacent second bedroom both have French doors opening to a stone terrace that overlooks the valley. There are three full bathrooms.
There is a wood-beamed living room with a fireplace and doors leading to an outdoor terrace. The terrace is a lovely spot for breakfast, tea, and evening cocktails.
Upstairs is a family TV room that has its own terrace.
The dining room has views of the valley.
The house is handsomely furnished with traditional items from the region (the prior owners were Belgian antique dealers) . What makes the property truly unique, however, is the outside space. By day, the sweeping views of the ancient village and valley, and by night, the lights along the Mediterranean Riviera provide an ever-changing backdrop.

Year Purchased: 1982
Why the Owner Chose Tourrettes-sur-Loup:
The Mas du Cassan has been in the family for close to 30 years. Our Francophile parents purchased the house for simple reasons. They wanted a special place to enjoy al fresco French cooking where family and friends could linger and children play throughout the day. It was also important to have an easy-to-reach location (40 minutes by car from the Nice international airport) from which to explore the many cultural activities and assorted restaurants offering the gamut of French cuisine.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
For outdoor dining, it is hard to top the large, shaded dining table that seats eight to ten people. Cascading down from the outdoor dining area is a series of terraces planted with olive and fruit trees (including cherry, fig, grapefruit, and kumquat), shrubs, flowers and herbs, a towering palm, and billowing purple bougainvilleas. The property is enclosed by hedges and fences, and the gardens are lovingly maintained by a local gardener. Situated among the trees is a boules court (equipment on premises).
