I'M SORRY, BUT AT THIS TIME, NO NEW RESERVATIONS ARE BEING MADE FOR THE AUTUMN HOUSE.
This is a great property situated just minutes from the historic and picturesque, little gold-mining town of Julian, California... nestled in the mountains just east of beautiful San Diego. Julian is a favorite destination for its locally grown apples, delicious pies and the old west architecture that lines quaint Main Street. You will fall in love with the privacy and feel of this wonderfully relaxing, custom 2,400 sq. ft. home that is surrounded by a beautiful acre of property with mature pine and oak trees, rock walls and patios. Enjoy sitting on the quiet and inviting wrap-around porch and watch wild turkeys and deer wander through in the early morning hours and evenings. Tasteful antique furnishings, personal touches and quality design gives this open and spacious home a well balanced feeling of warmth, coziness and relaxation. Rebuilt after the 2003 Cedar Fire, this newer home with up-to-date features was designed to have an 'old house' feel with reclaimed wood floors throughout, wide bead-board ceilings, wainscoting, and antiqued-red custom Kitchen cabinetry. Loaded with all sorts of amenities and extras, it's a one-of-a kind rental for you to enjoy.
The huge gourmet kitchen with butcher-block counter tops, a large island, and Viking Range will entice you to stay in for dinner and test your culinary skills. Open to the living room area, this area is perfect for any family or gathering of friends to watch movies, cook together, relax, play games or cozy-up next to a warm fire. A fully-enclosed, weather-proof sleeping porch lined with windows adds to the charm and mid-west feel of the home. With a comfy queen-size bed and antique furnishings, the sleeping porch is everyone's favorite room to kick back and read a good book or take in an afternoon nap. It's a perfect sleeping area for a couple, kids or anyone in your group.
Upstairs are two large bedrooms suites. The first suite has a queen-size bed plus a large corner sofa that makes into a queen bed, as well. This space is ideal for a couple, or a small family, yet two couples can easily share this room if privacy is not an issue (there is also a queen-size elevated air mattress for use anywhere in the house). A full-size bathroom is located off a bedroom foyer and has a beautiful claw foot tub and a separate tiled shower. This bathroom can easily be shared by anyone sleeping downstairs on the sleeping porch, without any privacy issues. The other large bedroom suite upstairs has a queen bed and a creatively designed bathroom with another claw foot tub, tiled shower and two separate vanity areas. There is also a second TV (Dish Net Satellite) and Blu-Ray/DVD player in this bedroom suite.
Outside, the one-acre of land has flowers beds and a seasonal garden that surrounds private patio areas and is perfect for relaxing or entertaining. Pull out the croquet or the ping-pong table, throw some steaks on the BBQ, enjoy a glass of wine or crack open a cold beer...you can't go wrong out here. Night-time star-gazing is simply awesome, especially with a blanket, a friend, and some warm cocoa!
Located in the mountains, the Autumn House is perfectly situated between San Diego's amazing beaches and desert areas. This Julian home sits in a small, desirable and quiet neighborhood with-in easy walking distance to William Heise County Park and its great hiking trails. Head into town and grab a piece of Julian's famous apple pie and take a romantic stroll down Main Street, enjoy a carriage ride, or browse it's many shops. Or, if you're up for fishing or just some beautiful scenery, drop over to the other side of town and rent a small boat over at beautiful Lake Cuyamaca. If you're from outside the southern California area, maybe you want to head off the mountain to explore more of San Diego... it's just over an hour's drive to any of it's most popular destinations. At the end of the day, return to Julian and sink back into the quiet solitude and bit of heaven here at the Autumn House.
KIDS ARE WELCOME AT THE AUTUMN HOUSE, BUT THIS HOME IS NOT IDEAL FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN FROM CRAWLING STAGE TO 3 YEARS OLD. THE KITCHEN AREA HAS A LOT OF LOWER OPEN SHELVING WITH DISHWARE AND GLASSES THAT CAN EASILY BE ACCESSIBLE TO A CHILD. THIS HOME IS NOT CHILD-PROOF. FEEL FREE TO TALK TO ME ABOUT THIS IF YOU FEEL IT'S NOT A CONCERN FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD AND PROPER SUPERVISION WILL BE PROVIDED. IF YOU ANTICIPATE HAVING TO PUT BREAKABLES AND OTHER ITEMS UP OUT OF REACH, THIS IS PROBABLY NOT THE HOUSE FOR YOU...THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
If you have more people in your group than the Autumn House sleeps, please check-out THE BUNKHOUSE on VRBO which is just around the corner for your additional guests (sleeps up to 4).

My husband and I were looking for a beautiful rental home for a weekend in Julian for us and 2 other couples. We wanted a high end property with privacy and comfort for all. The plan was to cook some meals, relax in a beautiful setting, and spend some quality time with our friends. The Autumn House meet our expectations and then some. Cindy has thought of absolutely everything. We were all so impressed with the property- its design, the abundant & thoughtful amenities, its convenient location, the outdoor space. We loved the mornings drinking coffee outside and watching all the wildlife including wild turkeys, deer and birds. It was so relaxing - it really feels like home. I did not want to leave! We will certainly be back soon. And, we will be sure to recommend this place to family and friends as well. Thanks Cindy!Owner response: Thank you so much...you all were wonderful guests and I'm so happy that the Autumn House helped to create an atmosphere perfect for your weekend in Julian. This is such a perfect time of the year here, everything is coming back to life after what seemed to be a long winter. The wildlife has been amazing! Sadly though, there is a good chance that this will be the last year that the Autumn House will be open, but I do hope you all get a return visit before then. Thanks again!

Upon arrival Cindy was wonderful, she explained all the details about her home and turned over the keys; also she has notes throughout the house explaining details if you should a have a question. The home is very cozy and has all the amenities you could think of (except one, internet, but I guess that's part of the idea, getting away from it all). That night got a dusting of snow; even though it got down into the teens in temperature at night the house was very comfortable. The town of Julian is just about 5 minutes away and Mt. Laguna is about 25-30 minutes away, where we took the kids to play with their sleds and boards in the snow. In Julian there are souvenir shops, pie shops, a great Italian Restaurant (Romano's) and much more. We were a family of nine and we used the kitchen and the house to the fullest. The house is immaculate and didn't want to leave, so we definitely plan on returning again very soon. Thanks again Cindy.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.
Owner response: Blessed again with a fantastic family! I feel so lucky to be able to provide a sanctuary for others where they create long lasting memories together. If my home could smile...I know it wore a huge grin all weekend long. You all were great. Thank you!

We can't wait to return to Autumn House! What a beautiful home! As a family of five, we had everything we needed (and more) for a quiet & relaxing getaway. The house was extremely clean & well maintained and the property was beautiful. There were more than enough amenities to keep our children entertained for the weekend...basketball, ping pong, board games, Wii games, movies, and of course the snow! Cindy has gone above & beyond to make visitors to the Autumn House feel welcome and very comfortable during their stay! We would absolutely recommend this property to friends and relatives!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Once again...awesome guests! So glad the home had all the amenities to make it a great weekend. Thank you so much!

Picture this........ Your girlfriend walking into such a cozy and classy cottage that her eyes and smile spell complete delight. I can't explain how this house/castle/mansion comes complete. It has everything you need and more. We completely stayed there the whole time, could not leave. It even has a ping pong table. The home decor is amazing and my girl friend who does home decor, learned from this home. I am totally coming back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children.
Owner response: Super cool! So glad you loved it and can't wait to have you all come back. You got to enjoy it during my favorite time of the year here and your thoughtful words about the home make me truly happy to be doing this! Thank you.

I recently organized a getaway with five other women to the Autumn House for apple picking in Julian. The house is beautifully decorated and has so much more character than you usually see in a newer home. The location is great too because you're only about 5 minutes from "downtown" Julian but still very much in nature. It has a huge nicely equipped kitchen and everything about the house is comfy (and looks like it should be in a magazine!). It actually looks better in person than in the pictures because there are cool details throughout. The owner, Cindy, makes sure each guest feels at home with tons of thoughtful extras and helpful notes. She made us feel completely taken care of. This is the best vacation rental I've ever stayed at and I will definitely find some excuse to go back there.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much for all the kind words! This is a great place for a girls get-away and I'm so glad that the house had everything needed for a great weekend. Looking forward to having you back!

This property exceeds all expectations I had before renting the house. The owner takes great care and pride in the Autumn House. All appliances are top of the line, detailed instructions are provided and any questions we had were answered in a handy book. I was in awe with all the cool antiques and the interior decorating through out the house. I was able to spend quality time with both sets of grandchildren. They loved playing in the yard and watching for wild turkeys, deer and chipmunks. We went apple picking, carved pumpkins, made sock snowmen, painted acorns and played at the park just down the road. I would love to stay here again and will recommend the house to my friends in California.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: So cool!...what fun, too! I'm so glad that the Autumn House made this weekend away so perfect for you and your family. I would be happy if everyone who comes to stay will enjoy it half as much as you all did! Looking forward to seeing you again!

What a wonderful home for a "get away from it all" weekend. The Autumn House is so inviting, it's so beautiful, inside and out. The accomodations were five star, we felt so comfortable. We all felt spoiled to be able to view the surrounding mountain scenery each morning as we all sat on the porch drinking coffee, and then to have another opportunity to catch the gorgeous views in the evening as the sun went down. The guest rooms were decorated so tastefully, and the beds were very comfortable. Every detail of the Autumn House was explicit in making the guest feel pampered. I hope we can make The Autumn House one of our Family Traditions as a mini get away vacation, every year. Thanks.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I was thrilled that this family chose to stay here...this home is perfect for family get-togethers just like this one. They relaxed and enjoyed it just as I would hope and to be here as the summer season changes to "autumn" was a perfect time in particular for this family! I can't wait to see you all again!

This is a great place to spend your vacation. Get up in the morning have some coffee on the porch as you watch the wild life stroll by the front yard. Every thing you can possibly need is available, short drive you Julian if you want, but once you are here, you will not want to leave. Highly recommended!!!Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: The amount of deer and turkeys this year has been amazing, I have never seen so many bucks in the yard! This has been a great month too for watching the storm clouds form overhead and listening to the rumble of thunder in the afternoons. I am so glad everyone is getting a chance to enjoy it, and this was another lovely family who got to take in everything that the Autumn House has to offer. We're fast approaching Apple Day's here in Julian which means fall is right around the corner and the last couple months of the year can be some of the best to enjoy as the fall color sets in.

This was our first visit to Julian for a 30th birthday celebration/sister bonding, and it couldn't have been at a better place! The house was well equipped with everything we could ever need. Cindy thought of every detail and we felt very much at home. Each morning we enjoyed coffee on the porch and watched the birds, deer and turkeys roam the yard. Every night we had the luxury of relaxing in one of two claw-foot bathtubs...bubbles and all! The house is well situated: William Heise park within walking distance and downtown just a 5 minute drive. Whenever we are in Julian, this will be the place we will stay. It was definitely hard to say goodbye to the Autumn House!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Again...Lucky Me! Another great family who came in and got to enjoy the Autumn House for three nights. I bumped into them out hiking in Heise Park and was glad to see that they were really having a great time. I am so glad that they chose to stay here as they were wonderful guests who really relaxed and made the most of their time here together as a family. Thank you!!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1993
Why the Owner Chose Julian:
Being from a small town in Iowa originally, and then spending many years near the beach in Del Mar, I longed to return to the quiet and safety of a small town to raise my boys. Having spent time at a family cabin here in Julian while in my twenties, I knew this is where I belonged and wanted to spend my life...the choice was not a difficult one.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I enjoy the space and privacy, the quiet and peacefulness, the wildlife, the natural beauty and trees, and the serene gentleness of this place. There is something magical about living here. I don't know if it's the fresh, clean, clear mountain air and sun, or the beauty of the trees occasionally blanketed in snow in the winter. I've never found a more perfect climate anywhere. We get all four seasons here, yet none too harshly. More often than not, I wake to bright, sunny, crisp mornings, and in the evenings there is nothing like laying on the grass wrapped in a blanket, awe-struck at the millions of stars lit against a deep, black sky. Then a cool breeze will blow threw the pines and wrap itself around you...there's nothing like it!
