Long Island is best known of the Casco Bay Islands for its spectacular white sand beaches nestled amongst granite ledges and cliffs. "Sunnyside" cottage, fully useable all seasons, has all reasonable modern conveniences and is but a short walk to the best of the beaches, ferry, tennis, stores, etc. There is a private back deck, covered porch around the side and front, and a large pleasant yard. Furnishings are modest but comfortable.
Besides the beaches, Long Island is a rural year-round fishing community offering church fairs, sailboat races, good fishing right from the dock, tennis, a general store, many community activities, hiking trails, and whatever outdoor activities you care to set up or play. The island has much spruce and fir forest and the largest meadow ecosystem on any Maine Island, much of which is conservation land open to the public with hiking trails. You can of course just kick back and enjoy the peace and quite!
Frequent ferry service (5AM to 9PM) makes day tripping to Portland easy. This makes Long Island a perfect base to explore countless Southern and Central Maine attractions such as Portland and its famous restored Old Port Exchange, the Portland Art Museum and its Wyeth Collection, fishing charters, Funtown/Splashtown, other islands, Freeport and LL Bean, and the White Mountains.
