San Cristobal cabin description

These charming, historic log cabins and casitas are close to Taos & the Taos Ski Valley & Red River. Perfect for small retreats, reunions & weddings. Taos Goji Eco Lodge Cabins and Farm are nestled in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Fullly furnished, and situated on a 40 acre goji berry farm, the cabins are surrounded by national forest with a great view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

All cabins have fully equipped kitchens and bathroom with either a shower or a bathtub and a separate laundry facility. WiFi on the property. Gas heaters and a pot belly stove in most cabins to keep you warm. There is a laundry facility on the property and a play ground for children. There is also larger cabins and casitas on the property available for rental. Please inquire.

Originally designed to house sheep herders. Aldous Huxley and D.H. Lawrence lived and wrote in the cabins. They are renovated, but still have the rustic country feel!

We raise organic goji berries and have baby chickens and mini goats grazing in the summer. We also have eco-lodge 325 sq ft cabins with either full or queen beds or larger rustic log cabins and adobe casitas for rent short & longer term.

The land has creeks, ponds, aspens and cottonwood trees, flower gardens, stone paths, goji, raspberry and apple orchards and great views of the mountains. We use only green cleaners and recycle. These historic casitas and cabins offer a great country retreat for writers and artists, couples who seek solitude and families who would like to experience living on a farm in the country side. It is a great place to just to to kick back in, take walks or fish. Our place is also a bird sanctuary and a couple of dedicated bird watchers counted up tp 100 different species! Drinking water comes from our deep wells.

During summer we have fresh, organic vegetables available to guests and during late summer and fall there are plenty of apples to pick. Beginning in mid-April, gourmet breakfasts and dinners are available at extra charge. Massages, baby sitting and horse trail rides are available by appointment.

We are located in the countryside and city slickers may be dismayed by the lack of street lights and the quietude at night. Our internet connection gets spotty during rain storms and snow. Depending on your cell phone provider you may have to drive to the post office or up the road to get reception. (We have several landlines to enable connection anywhere in the U.S.) We're not a motel or hotel: these are clean, rustic country cabins, a perfect place for creative individuals drive who desire to take a break from the hustle and bustle of civilization or to bring your children to appreciate country living. This is also an introduction to camping or glamping for families who want a degree of country comfort. This is a place to get away from the TV and computer games. Don't panic, Taos is a only 15 minute away!

Horseback trail rides throughout the San Cristobal Canyon is available.

              Year Purchased: 1976

About: Profile Description We are health care professionals who have returned to our land we bought 40 years ago. We love to cook and entertain and arrange frequent dinners, potlucks and wine tasting with our guests and friends. Creating an eco friendly environment is an ongoing process. Our berries, fruits and vegetables are organically cultivated. The chickens are free ranging and the growth season has been extended by a newly constructed green house. Most of our casitas and cabins are heated with wood fire stoves. Eventually we would like to be totally off the grid and supply our electricity from wind and solar energy. The eco lodge is part of a recycling program and uses only use eco friendly cleaners, dish and laundry detergents. A grey water system and a large holding pond with well and acequia water are being created to irrigate our expanding Goji plantation..The Eco lodge's water comes from four deep wells, fed by mountain aquafirs. We look forward to seeing you! Website : www.taosgoji.com Newspaper article: http://www.taosnews.com/lifestyle/article_5bd7ecac-4d56-11e3-be49-0019bb2963f4.html

              Why San Cristobal:
We are the second owners of this historic property. Aldous Huxley and D.H. Lawrence lived and wrote in the smaller cabins. The main building was the the center of this small village with a post office, gas pumps and a trading. Our eco lodge and goji berry farm offers a retreat for families, couples and individuals who seek quietude, a creative space or an introduction to a farm life. Our lodge is also a great place for a family or friends' retreat. It is a tranquil place surrounded by nature, perfect for large gatherings such as a retreat. We have also had weddings in the field with a beatiful view of the mountain. The barn is being rebuilt to offer a place to dine away from the rain or sun. Our place is also a focal point for our family and friends and we gather here many times a year for our own retreat.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
When we first saw the little house that is now called 'the magical casita' we fell in love. It was barely visible from the the rest of the surrounding land, surrounded by a secret garden. We could almost see fairies dancing. We raised our two older children in this casita. When we were asked by the owners to buy the rest of the property, we hesitated. It was a big committment finacially but we bit the bullet. We envisioned this beatiful place with its out buildings as a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle.
