There is nothing like the charm and convenience of living in the Village! One block from the Lake, one block from the Wednesday Farmers Market, (tianguis) two blocks from inexpensive bus service if you care to venture out of town. Nice place to stay and rest awhile.
Nice place to stay and rest awhile.
Ajijic is a delightful village. Since it appears to be more of an ex-pat area, the prices are higher. There is a distinquish separation of Gringos and locals. The locals (Mexicans) on the whole are friendly and helpful. Georgette, the landlord, was more than accomodating driving us around the first day for groceries and showing us the town. She invited us to a couple of local events as well. The house is charming albeit dark in side especially the room off the kitchen. There were fans in all the rooms and sliding doors to the outside. The house needed to be locked up at all times for safety reasons. This was something we quickly got used to. The bathrooms were roomy and clean. The beds comfortable. The closets more than adequate. The kichen well equipped. The most difficult part was the barking dogs at night. They were unrelenting. Starting up their barking and howling we were often jolted out of a good sleep. Eventually they seemed to be less. I think we just got used to them and treated it as white sound. Probably what the residents do. We chose not to have a car so there was an enormous amount of walking on cobblestones. Some had more trouble than others. Just need the right shoes. It was disappointing that such a large lake (Lake Chapala) and the center part of the area was polluted. It was not appealing to venture to the waters edge. The weather was good. We were in the rainy season but it only rained at night around 7 or so. It never curtailed any of our plans. The temperature was comfortable. Overall the place and the house was a success.

Owner response: The time flew by!!! Even in our off season there was still plenty to do and the renters were game to see and do as much as possible and still have the time to enjoy just resting and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the States and going on Mexican time.
Unsafe Rooftop Mirador
Unsafe Rooftop Mirador
This property has an unsafe mirador. There was a serious accident with grave results. The owner has no plans to fix it. I would not return to this house or recommend it.

Owner response: In the 10 years I have rented and/or lived in this property with animals and children there have been no other incidents. While the newly arrived renters were "oohing and aahing" over how great the home is, before even bringing their suitcases in the house, and in this 15-20 minutes, their unsupervised dog jumped over a wall off the 3rd storey mirador with it's gorgeous Lake views, which is prominently featured on the site. When they finally started thinking about their dog and looked for it, the vet was unable to save it. I felt terrible, but as an animal lover and doggie owner, I would have NEVER let my dog out of sight in a strange place without showing him around as well. They chose to stay and their lack of responsibility for their actions was further demonstrated by the documented grease, solvent and paint stains on the sofa and elsewhere that were concealed so they could get their deposit back.
November 2012 in Ajijic
November 2012 in Ajijic
This is a really nice house in a very Mexican fully decorated style. It is clean, comfortable and quiet, with walking distance to everything you need. We spent November 2012 in this house and were very happy to be there. The hostess is charming and very helpful and lives next door which feels good when you need some help or advice. We would be happy to come back some time, maybe next year.

We stayed with Georgette the month of December 2011 and couldn't have asked for a better person to rent from. The house is beautiful, well maintained and very clean. Whatever small issues we had, she immediately addressed. She lives next door which was convenient. She guided us to the best restaurants and always made sure we knew of local events in case we wanted to attend. Since she is also a realtor, we tagged along to open houses and got to look over different homes. The maid came in once a week which was an added bonus. We hope to return one day.
