When looking for the perfect NC Mountain family vacation spot - it does not get much better than The Farm! We spent three wonderful nights and days at this beautiful home and surrounding property with great family friends, and a good time was had by all. When our departure day arrived, we were all wishing that we could have a few more days! The property is beautiful and allows for plenty of "roaming" room for the kids. Ours loved the expansive grounds, tree house and pond. It was great to see our kids "unplugged" and excited about being outside enjoying the terrific weather and all that nature has to offer. The home itself is meticulously decorated and has every amenity that you would need or want in a vacation home. We were very comfortable and loved all of the comforts of this cozy, exquisite home. We could tell that the owner wants her guests to feel right at home. No detail is overlooked. The kitchen is amazing and well equipped. We prepared a big family feast one night and were not at a loss for any pot, pan, or utensil. Evenings were spent gathered around the great fireplace playing games and sipping hot chocolate. After long hikes and lots of activity during the day, it was the perfect place for us to retreat in the evenings. We all highly recommend The Farm and are counting the days until we go back again next fall. Enjoy!

We had a fantastic time staying at "the farm". We brought our golden retriever with us to see the changing of the leaves. The location and house amenities were perfect. This place really is a dog's paradise. the cleared acreage for running around with my dog was great. We enjoyed the adjacent Christmas tree farm area also. They did not mind us hiking thru their trees. The dog even found a stray cow roaming among the trees. Better a cow than a bear !!!! The views of lake down the road were beautiful especially soon after sunrise with the fog lifting. The thing that made this place perfect was how quiet it was outside away from all the road noise. We sat outside and just enjoyed the view of the mountains, trees and lake. We will revisit this place again and again. Thanks Gail for your house.

We had an absolutely wonderful time this past weekend visiting "The Farm." There were 3 couples, 2 babies and 3 dogs who all truly enjoyed themselves. The kitchen has everything you need to prepare great meals, an amazing fire place, gorgeous furnishings and a great view! The yard is a perfect space for yard games and for the dogs to run around while others can sit and watch from the porch in rocking chairs. A little slice of heaven in the mountains with great hikes just minutes away and a view of the lake just at the top of the property.

My husband and I just returned from two glorious weeks in this wonderful house and I find myself homesick for it! The property description is very accurate but doesn't come close to describing how charming and comfortable it is. The house is immaculate and extremely well-maintained with a very helpful caretaker who responds quickly to a phone call for information or assistance. The owner is wonderfully accommodating and very attentive to your needs. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family. It is an exceptionally good value. We greatly enjoyed the nearby towns: Cashiers with its numerous fine antique shops and Highlands with high-end fashion boutiques (don't miss McCaully's remarkable cashmere store) and fine restaurants. Lunch at the Old Edwards Inn is a special treat. Fly fishing with a guide from Brookings is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you are looking for a wonderful experience in the Cashiers area, I doubt you could do better than this very lovely property.

My family and I just returned from 7 wonderfully relaxing days at "The Farm". The home was immaculate and furnished beautifully including luxurious linens. We enjoyed playing on the hilly 3 acres, cooking in the fabulous kitchen and relaxing on the wrap around deck. There were so many things to do nearby, we enjoyed hiking, white water rafting, boating, tubing, gem mining, playing in waterfalls and exploring the quaint and charming towns of Cashiers and the Highlands. The owner was very accommodating and always accessible to answer questions and genuinely concerned about our comfort and enjoyment. The Farm was most enjoyed by our Goldendoodle who had the time of her life. I especially enjoyed the elevated pet shower! If you are looking for a mountain home that is the perfect balance of comfort and luxury then your search is over! I hope you and yours enjoy your stay at The Farm as much as my family did. We will return as soon as possible!

This "Farm" is straight out of a designer magazine! The owner has left nothing for any guests to want or need for. Open living, dining and kitchen area was awesome, huge fireplace and each bedroom more beautiful than the other. The house is super pet friendly (including a doggie shower, dog door and toys) and made us feel incredibly welcome. The grounds are beautifully maintained, we spread a blanket on the soft grass underneath a tree for a quick nap or sat in one of the chairs on the wrap around veranda and watched our dog frollick on the rolling hill. If anything it was hard to leave the house for our day hikes with such luxury surrounding us. Great gravel road down to Lake Glenville for a quick dip or a short distance to either Cashiers and hundreds of trails and water falls. The property is located not far from one of the main roads, so access is not daunting but situated in such a way that you feel like you are in the middle of nature with no noise other than the crickets and chirping birds. We can't wait to be back - it's not a matter of IF but WHEN! Thanks G - you were the most gracious host to share this piece of heaven in the mountains with us! M & J

Owner response: We want all our future guests to feel as happy and as spoiled as you and as others have also felt this summer. We want to provide you with a lovely home, peaceful and serene surroundings, and the opportunity to be with your family, friends, and pets, with nothing else to do but to enjoy the pleasures of The Farm.

This house is beyond what the pictures on this site show. Truly should rent for double the current rates. Never have I seen such luxury in any vacation rental. Every detail is of the highest quality and I hope that anyone who rents this house will treat it with the same love and care that the owner has put into it. She is most generous to share all her exquisite items with those renting her house, especially all the MacKenzie Childs items throughout her kitchen and beyond. Original hand-painted art work on the walls of the kitchen and powder room, and even in the laundry room. The highest quality finishes are to be admired.....in addition to the special linens and monogrammed towels. The dining room chairs had beautiful silk cushions. The house is so new that it seems like one is the first-time user....everything is so well kept. The wrap around porch was a favorite reading spot and also for watching the sunset and fireflies. The landscaping was beautiful with rolling lawns amongst the trees. The best-ever pecan crusted trout was at Happ's Family Restaurant, at the entrance to the street where the house is located....a short walk we did twice. Cashiers nearby has more great restaurants, cute shops, a farmer's market and great hiking trails. Favorite was the 2-hour White-Side Mountain Trail. Owner has a great collection of books and movies. We watched one of Almodovar's movies, "Talk to Me" one night. Another night my husband played Backgammon (on an antique table built for such) with our guests, and also built a fire in the high stone fireplace. The ceilings in all the main areas and master bedroom are two stories high, stunning vaulted wood. The staircase to the other master bedroom suite is most interesting with special carved wood trim. Another highlight was attending a non-denominational church service at Lonesome Valley's restaurant which opens to the grounds and included blue-grass music in the service. I could continue writing a lot more about this very special house and the wonderful owner with such exquisite taste. We were a family of 4 adults and no one wanted to leave when the end arrived, but we definitely will be back. A most memorable vacation!

We could not have had a nicer, more relaxing time than we spent at "The Farm." The house is beautiful, spacious and very well suited to a small group or to a larger one. We found everything we needed. We especially enjoyed lounging on the large front porch enjoying the view. There is a lot to do in the surrounding area and several good restaurants. We would highly recommend this place as it is the nicest place we have ever rented!

Our family rented this beautiful home for our summer vacation. We visit Cashiers/Highlands a couple of times a year, and it was our first visit to the Lake Glenville area. The home is immaculate, well-furnished, has very comfortable beds and the kitchen and baths are beautiful and well-stocked. We saw a family of turkey's three times, a very large raccoon and heard lots of bullfrogs in the evening! Gail was wonderful to work with from the beginning to the end of our vacation. We are sorry that the week went by so quickly!

This was our first time to the Cahiers area and our first extended vacation with our three young children. From the start we were in communication with the owner as she wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. She was very accessible and helpful throughout our stay as well. The home is more than beautiful. The design, layout, furnishings, decor, and yard are just beautiful and impeccable. We spent a lot of time boating, so it was a bonus to have the marina only one mile away. Downtown Cashiers and plenty of hiking are also very accessible. The major draw of this home, besides it's exquisite beauty and fabulous owner, is its location. We could have rented a home directly on Lake Glenville, or in an all-inclusive resort, but we had three acres of beautiful land to play on. We had picnics, a sprinkler, a Slip-n-Slide and plenty of running around. This was the best family vacation and we will definitely return to the farm very soon.

                          Year Purchased: 2008

About the owner: I built The Farm in 2008, having purchased the three acres from my good neighbors down the hill. My late husband and I had spent summers at their cottage and wanted our own piece of this glorious, and peaceful countryside. When I'm not at The Farm, I live in Miami and am in practice as a Psychoanalyst. My Golden Retrievers can attest to the fact that this is dog country par excellance.

                          Why the Owner Chose Glenville:
The area of Lake Glenville, Highlands and Cashiers provide great boating, antiquing, hiking, photography, skiing, horseback riding and North Carolina country life. It's peacefulness and serenity is its most essential quality. Come and hear the silence of nature. You'll never want to leave.
