Our Spring Break couldn't have been better (except for warmer weather). But Ann & Clay have no control over that. What they do have control of is their cottage in Darien. Finding a place to stay on this trip was my responsibility. We have had some bad experiences with VRBOs. What a relief to walk in and not smell cigarette smoke. Ann came over and made sure everything was to our liking. She had already been so helpful with her advice about the area. Many emails were sent back and forth about the cottage, Darien, St. Simons, arranging fishing trips and recommended places to eat. The listing photos do reflect the rental's appearance and amenities. There was no 'bait-n-switch.' We would recommend the cottage as a great clean place to stay for a family and not break the bank. Thanks Ann & Clay.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was our pleasure! And from what I understand, your family made the most out of the imperfect weather conditions! We're always happy to hear that the cottage is clean, comfortable, convenient, and cost-effective! Thanks!

We come to Darien twice a year to fish out of Two Way Fish Camp in Darien and have stayed at the Coastawhile cottage the last 3 visits. The location is great, just 15 minutes from Two Way, with Ann and Clay being very accomodating to our needs. The cottage is the perfect size for the 4 of us with a great kitchen, living area and comfortable bedrooms. The screened in front porch is ideal for relaxing and telling end of the day fishing stories. We highly recommend this spot and have already booked our next trip.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: It's always a treat to host a house full of fishermen! Located just a few miles from the docks and ramps at Blue N Hall Marina, the Darien waterfront, Champney River and Two Way Fish Camp, CoastAwhile Cottage is the perfect home base for fishing adventures. We love it that y'all keep catching fish and coming back to CoastAwhile!

We totally enjoyed this wonderfully quaint retreat. It was spacious, comfortable and clean. It was also conveniently located within driving distance to beach fun in Jekyll Island or St Simmons, as well as 2 major cities with lots to see, Savannah, Ga and Jacksonville, Florida. We hope to return soon.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: We are happy to know that the cottage met your needs and expectations and that you plan to return soon! We look forward to hosting your next visit to the Georgia coast!

Great place to get away and relax. Close to shopping if that is your thing. Water isn't far away. If you like seafood you should go to Skipper's Fish Camp. Ann was great to work with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed you visit to the cottage and Darien. Skippers is yummy, and here's a little known fact: CoastAwhile Cottage owner and builder, Clay, remodeled the interior of Skippers' main building, which used to be a real fish/shrimp house. And, he built the cool bar just inside the front door! We hope you'll come back for a visit and some fried shrimp or crispy flounder soon!

Ann & Clay have done a magnificent job rehabbing this older home. Their attention to details of comfort are exceedingly rare in these kind of circunstances...down to the utensils in the itchen for any cooking needs. The location just outside of Darien is perfect..quiet and peaceful...and Ann was helpful in sending us ahead of time a list of places to see of historical significance as well as suggestions for resaurants ( we recommend Skipper's Fish Camp.) When my wife had a little problem hooking up our computer to the wireless system, Ann was there in a heartbeat to help and solve the problem. Clay met us when we arrived and showed us through the home to familiarize us wiith all the functions and features ...again, nothing was left to chance. We actually stayed over an extra day before departing to Hilton Head.. just to take in the area some more and to enjoy the relaxing feel of the "cottage". We can only say good things about this couple and their property and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get the feel of the country in and around the Savannah area..Thanks again for a memorable experience.. Jo & Tony...Fallbrook Ca.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thank you for your review. We aim to please, and we're glad we hit the mark during your visit! Although we can't take credit for the amazing place we live, we can say that taking care of our guests and sharing Darien and the surrounding area with visitors is a pleasure! Come back to see us anytime!

Ann and Clay have added the small touches that made our stay feel like home. Plenty of space and all the neccessities that you can think of, waiting for you upon arrival. This was our second visit to CoastAwhile Cottage and we will definitely return again. I highly recommend this home to everyone of all ages. Darien is a great town to visit! Lots of activities to do with beautiful sunsets over the marsh on the Darien River. A Photographers Dream! Thank you again, Ann and Clay, for sharing CoastAwhile Cottage with us for Thanksgiving!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experiences with us and with anyone who visits our VRBO page! We are so glad that you chose to stay with us again and that, again, you were comfortable in the cottage. We truly hope that each guest has the same experience you did, and we work hard to be sure they do. Come back to see us soon!

You know how sometimes when you rent a place, it takes some time to get adjusted and feel at home? I travel a lot and know this feeling well. Well, not so with Coastawhile. The minute I walked in the door of this sweet little cottage I felt completely at home, comfortable. It is immaculate, and user-friendly in every way. As a frequent visitor to the area, I know there are LOTS of fun and interesting things to do there. I think it's great to have a fun-filled day and then look forward to "coming home" to Coastawhile! A lovely experience in every way. Also, I stayed there as a single women and it works out well for just one.I felt completely safe.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: We're glad to hear it felt like home to you. We hope that all of our guests settle in easily and feel like the cottage is a comfortable place to come home to after exploring what Darien/McIntosh County, the Golden Isles and Savannah have to offer.

Coastawile Cottage was perfect for us. We were visiting Darien to fish the costal waters. Clay shared his knowledge of the rivers and even showed us a few of his favorite fishing holes. It paid off too, we caught our limit on Specs one day. There are three boat ramps within ten minutes of the cottage, the closest less than a mile away. The cottage was spotless, the yard and butterfly garden very well kept. Ann met us at the house, gave us a quick tour, and a run down of places to eat and where to go and what to see while in Darien. The house was roomy, furniture had lots of character, beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. We are looking forward to staying again.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: Although we're a little jealous about all the awesome fishing you did while you were here, we're so glad you found the cottage comfortable and conveniently located to the things you wanted to do! It's so easy to get around Darien, but particularly from our location, multiple accesses to water are straight shots. So whether people BYOBoat like you did or hook up with a charter captain to hook up on some fish or just see the area from the water, it's so easy to do from the cottage!

My wife and I have been visiting Darien and St. Simons Island for years and have tried several different houses, condos and cottages and, while the others were nice, "CoastAwhile" is by far the best! The Cottage is extremely comfortable, with great beds, living room furniture, roomy kitchen and living room. Having a separate bathroom for each bedroom is AWESOME when you have a large group of adults! The layout was great! The first thing I noticed when entering the house on a day when it was 97 degrees and very humid was that it was a crisp 72 inside! I learned from speaking with the Owner that the walls and ceiling were packed with insulation and the "proof was in the pudding"! We have never had a more comfortable indoor climate on the coast. We do a lot of outdoor activities such as fishing, birding and hunting and have always had a problem with getting our boat in and out of the parking places provided. This is not a problem at CoastAwhile! There is a large yard with plenty of room to pull the boat trailer in and turn around. There is an electric hookup to charge batteries and hose bibb so you can hookup and flush the boat motor and wash the salt off the trailer. Just a perfect setup. Summary: This is a well furnished, roomy home just a couple of short miles from downtown Darien that will not disappoint. Whether you are on the coast for a shopping spree, fishing trip in the salt marsh or, like us, a few days of chasing alligators, CoastAwhile Cottage makes a great base of operations! I LOVE GEORGIA!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Owner info
About the owner: We escaped Atlanta in '98 and haven't looked back. We consider ourselves very fortunate to call McIntosh County home. My husband is a local business owner, operating PrideWorks Construction. When not working, we spend our time enjoying the many opportunities unique to the area (too many to list!). The family photo shown is from one of our favorite day trips to Blackbeard Island, just a short boat trip from Blue N Hall Marina.
Why the Owner Chose Darien:
The City of Darien and the surrounding area offer unlimited opportunities for visitors. My husband, a local builder, found this cottage which was in need of a little TLC. We completely renovated the house, maintaining the home's classic character, featuring heart pine floors, exposed brick chimney, and shotgun style design, while updating it to comfortably accommodate guests for an unmatched rental experience here in Darien. Whether you are staying a few days or a few weeks, the CoastAwhile Cottage offers comfort, convenience, and privacy, all at a great price!
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Explorers ourselves, we can connect you with any type of adventure that peaks your interest. From boating, birding, and beach combing to dining or relaxing and enjoying a low country boil with fresh seafood bought at one of our local docks, we will work to make sure that your experience at CoastAwhile is a memorable one!
