Location: Pepeekeo, Hilo District, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (10 miles North of Hilo; 10 minutes from Akaka Falls)
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 3 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: Private Home
Enjoy spectacular, 180-degree, ocean views from every room of this beautifully remodeled, plantation-style home. Extensive use of Shoji screens and a traditional Furo tub in the master bath highlight this retreat-like home set on three lush acres. A traditional zendo (Buddhist meditation area) adds to the serenity of the atmosphere.
The house is surrounded by park-like landscaping with almost an acre of manicured lawns dotted with tropical fruit trees, coconut and banana palms in almost continuous production, and gorgeous orchids and plumeria. Hillside location and surrounding acreage grant a high degree of privacy and the electric-gated entry assures security.
The private backyard swimming pool and covered lanai make this an excellent choice for families. The modern, extremely well-supplied kitchen is a chef's delight. All amenities including seasonings and basic staples are there for your use. You will enjoy breakfasts on the screened lanai caressed by the gentle tradewinds. From the breakfast table you can actually see the plumes of migrating humpback whales just offshore.
The Hamakua coast offers unparalleled outdoor activities including nearby Akaka Falls, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, and beautiful hiking trails. Four-Mile Scenic drive is just a few blocks away, along with beautiful Onomea Bay. We are located minutes from Honoli'i, one of the Big Island's best surfing spots. The area is laced with streams, waterfalls, and swimming holes, all against a backdrop of lush tropical vegetation.
Located just one mile from the dramatic sea cliffs of Pepeekeo Point, the house is ideally located for exploration of the Big Island. Volcanoes National Park is only 45 minutes away, as is Waimea to the north. Kailua-Kona is a 90-minute drive. The windward side's best swimming beaches are a short drive.
Hilo offers its unique blend of Old-Hawaii charm and modern conveniences, shopping, and restaurants. The Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays should not be missed! A tremendous variety of handicrafts from all over the islands are available at some of the best prices to be found. Local produce in all its wonderful variety abounds. The Lyman Museum and the Tsunami Museum are also well worth a visit.

We had a lovely visit, the house was a comfortable base of operations for our explorations of the east side of the island. It was cooler than being in the city or on the Kona side by far. Akaka falls is a wonderful nearby treat.

This is a very well located property with long views of the ocean. Clean and confortable with an attractive ambiance, including Japanese style shoji screens and windows. A private one acre property with a fabulous avacado tree among the many fruit trees,. The lower level bedroom (#3) is the least comfortable of the various spaces in the home...best described as a basement room. The listing description was accurate but the pictures do not do justice to the open and comfortable space. An excellent kitchen that is well supplied. The technology (TV/music) was adequate but could be improved: Good points are an iPod dock and housewide wi-fi. Areas for improvement would be an upgrade to flat screens and more than basic cable. Once again, a very good value and recommended as such.

Your beautiful home offered us a view of the "real" Hawaii. The setting was just perfect with the plush grounds, comfortable furnishings and incredible view. What a wonderful place to meet our 3 sons- one from Alaska, one from the Marshall Islands. It was fabulous!

There is a scent here when you drive back here from Hilo that is absolutely magical and intoxicating at night. Coming home here with a tasty beverage to enjoy on the screened lanai we have been seranaded the chorus of tiny frogs in the night. I think we have spent about 80% of our time on this lanai. Sunrise breaks on the morning clouds in mysterious and wonderfully soft tones- I think we've chosen a vacation in heaven! This is a lovely place. Thank you.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. We have come to the Big Island to celebrate many things. First of all, this is our honeymoon and we are here with Larry's parents as they are celebrating 60 years of marriage. We are also celebrating Christmas and the end of another year. The pool has been wonderful as has been the patio and screened lanai. The view is spectacular with the full moon over the ocean. Dining here has been so relaxing.

We enjoyed enormously our relaxing stay at this home that had every facilty we desired. The children loved the pool. The location is just far enough out of town and we prefer the less touristy part of Hawaii to the resorts any day.
