My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in both Duncan's and Kathy's bungalows in January. I feel the same review applies to both properties. If you searched on pet friendly you may have been prepared to make sacrifices as far as your comfort but have no fear Duncan's and Kathy's bungalows are PEOPLE friendly as well. Both properties are private, comfortable, clean, equipped with amenities not usually found in vacation rentals. If you are hoping for a quiet retreat the private swimming pools, fenced yards, fully equipped kitchens provide the perfect environment to relax and unwind in safe, quiet neighborhoods. If you are looking for a more active vacation the bungalows are Ideally located for sightseeing, restaurants, shopping etc. The photos are an accurate portrayal of the homes but the thing that sets these apart from other rentals cannot be captured in photos. That "thing" is the owners. It is obvious from first contact that this is not just a business for them. They truly want their guests (notice I said guests not tenants) to have an enjoyable vacation. Their attention to detail is impeccable, they are never intrusive but quick to respond to any questions or issues that could arise. Perhaps, Duncan and Kathy should start a consulting business to teach other property owners to provide a unique, comfortable environment, or manage properties for other owners so that guests will return year after year. After returning home and thinking about their special touches and deep commitment, I feel that I should be sending them each a thank you note. We are definitely hoping to return to their perfect vacation rentals!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

First of all, as the other reviews have stated...the pictures do not do this property justice. Duncan is a great "host", and has done a terrific job giving the bungalow that vacation feel. The property was very clean and everything was in good working order. Duncan made himself available and was very quick to respond when we needed anything ( which was only once on the 2nd day). We stayed for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Years. Duncan had a lighted tree and strings of lights for us to create a holiday vibe. We brought our dogs, and they loved the property. It was fun seeing them in a differnent environment. We would definetely recommend this property to our friends and family...or anyone looking for a great vacation rental. During our stay we found a few great places...here are our favorite: Enjoy your trip! ( We sure did!)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/6

We can't say enough about our week in paradise, thank you Duncan for sharing your wonderful home and back yard retreat! We found the home immaculate and kitchen well stocked with everything you need and loved the comfortable king size bed. The pool was so relaxing, we spent the majority of our time enjoying the rafts and floating in the pool, the lush landscaping was beautiful and the neighborhood very quiet, so we really enjoyed being outside the majority of the time. Duncan's recommendations for restaurants were great, be sure to visit Crave in Fort Myers and Jararanda in Sanibel, absolutely wonderful food. Very nice area where the home is located, close to shopping and restaurants, Publix for groceries and Walgreens minutes away, close to Sanibel, Captiva and Cape Coral, just everything you need. My husband was able to visit a health club near by for the week (next to Crave) which was great. Duncan was very helpful answering any questions about the area. We absolutely hated to leave the Bungalow at the end of the week, we had such a wonderful time and can't wait to return! Pat & Pat, Chicago areaDid you find this review helpful? My wife and I stayed at the bungalow recently for a week and what a great time we had ! Upon arriving and meeting Duncan and Kathy and getting our first look at the place, we knew we were going to have a wonderful week, and we were right. One of our main concerns for renting a house by just looking at pictures on the internet is you are never really sure what it will “actually” be like. No worries at the bungalow. The house was spotlessly clean and the backyard and pool are truly a tropical paradise. Take a look at the pictures, then go with the expectation that it will be even better, and you will not be disappointed. Many nice touches at this place as well. Almost all the rooms have dimmers for the lights, there is a great 6 speaker surround system in the living room, which even has a plug for playing your Ipod tunes, which was a great feature. The master shower was wonderful as well, let alone the outdoor shower, which was a treat in itself. The king sized bed is uber comfortable, so when you finally get tired of playing, you get a great night's sleep. The pool is simply awesome, mostly in the sun all day, but with the cover over the shallow end, you can hang out in the shade all day long if desired. Lounge chairs, chaise lounges, 2 sitting areas with tables, a hammock, pool floats, totally private with trees and landscaping done just right. Suffice it to say, if we ever build a pool for our house, I would want it to be as nice as this. It was truly a perfect week to get away and relax. Plenty to do in the Ft. Myers area and plenty of great local restaurants, the beaches, etc, but always looked forward to getting back to the bungalow too just unwind and play. We will definitely be back as we truly believe this is the best place to stay when in the Ft. Myers area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/7

Duncan, Thank you for a wonderful week at your Tropical Beach Bungalow! The vrbo listing does not do this property justice. We found it to be very comfortable, private and well-equipped for our stay. We especially enjoyed the beautiful pool. We spent hours each day enjoying the water loungers in the pool and the hammock was a popular spot for relaxing with one of the many great books you make available. The outdoor shower was also a perfect touch! This was a wonderful 10th Anniversary destination and we look forward to our next visit to your Tropical Beach Bungalow! Again, thank you, Duncan! Just returned from a wonderful week at Duncan's bungalow. Both he and his daughter Kathy went out of their way to make sure we had everything we would need to make our week enjoyable. Kathy even provided us with bottled water, lamps and batteries for the hurricane. The bad weather only lasted 2 days. The pool was so much fun and a great way to relax after spending the day touring the city and at the beach. A "must see" is the Ford/Edison estates right down the street. Loved the location of the house.......... close to stores, beaches, Sanibel, Captiva. The grill made it fun to cook out and the open layout was great for chatting up while you're cooking. Duncan, thank you for the gift certificate to University Grill.......their food is excellent. Thanks for allowing us the privilege of staying in your beautiful home for the week. It was great bringing our 3 lb. Yorkie. She loved the yard and barking at us while we swam from side to side. We loved our early morning walks around the neighborhood. The on thing we noticed the most was how friendly everyone was in Ft. Myers. Didn't matter if it was a neighbor, retail clerk, mail man........everyone took the time to wave and say hello. We had a wonderful time. Hope to see you again.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My fiancé and I escaped from our family life to this wonderful piece of paradise. Loved the property, loved the Bungalow, loved everything! If you want privacy, this is the place for you. Many small iguana's, butterflies and little frogs and there isn't anything like a dip in the pool after your morning coffee or anytime of day for that matter! Close to beaches, shopping and restaurants! The Bungalow is equipped for everything you need from a comfortable King size bed to an amazing shower inside and outside. This is the second time that we have stayed at Duncan's Beach Bungalow and both times were absolutely awesome. The bungalow itself is super clean and offers are the comforts of home (comfy beds, towels, shampoo, soap, patio dishes, full kitchen). The backyard is to die for. The oversized pool is fantastic for swimming laps, tossing the kids in the air, or just lounging. We travelled with our young kids and our 2 1/2 year old loved the beach sand. The gecos provide endless fun for the kids. The community is very quiet, lots of streets to go walking and biking around. The area offers everything you need for groceries and shopping although look in the fridge and cupboards before buying condiments, jams, sauces. The kitchen is stocked with leftover spices, etc. There is good outlet shopping about 35 minutes away. Very easy highway driving. We have recommended this place to a lot of our friends but it is always booked because once you go, you will want to make it your annual vacation spot. LOVED IT!!!!Did you find this review helpful? This was our 2nd time at the bungalow, and it won't be our last. Since everyone has said all the great things already, I will add what I always want to know when I rent a property. Yes, the house looks just like the pictures there will be no disappointing surprises. Yes, the backyard is a paradise very private, very peaceful. There is are blow dryers, an iron, every pot, pan and gadget you need in the kitchen, a washer dryer and a grill. There are basic supplies (paper products, spices, etc) in the kitchen. Shopping is less than 10 minutes away, many wonderful local restraunts in the area. And then there is Duncan, just a wonderful, friendly, happy, helpful host. Get there fast, then take it slow.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/9

What an amazing week. The bungalow was everything we had hoped for. The back yard is a tropical paradise. We could not believe how well equipped the kitchen was. It felt like we were staying in someone's home, not a vacation rental. Everything we needed was there. In fact we enjoyed it all so much, we never left except one day at the beach. If you like to relax and be alone this is a great spot. The owner is very gracious, and the furnishings are well cared for.Owner response: We have worked at making the Bungalow an extraordinary experience with a affordable price tag It's taken 7 years of hard work, but it has all come together We have fabulous guests, and they return...WOW! Since January, 2009, we have welcomed back 2 couples for the 3rd time, With 300+ options for lodging in this area, I can't imagine there being a higher level of praise.. When I read these reviews, I am reminded how great it is to work on something you care about...thank you for making it all worthwhile. , Ciao, duncan ps; If we are booked ...no problem...go to our newest Bungalow, Kathy's Tropical Beach Bungalow, Homeawy.com/919241. It is truly awesome...Close to Sanibel

We stayed at the bungalow for christmas through new years, the house was very clean and beautiful great location just 10 min away from fort myers beach. A perfect place for a family of four. The owner was very hospitable he even had the house decorated for christmas, the best part of the house was the heated pool a great place to relax after a full day at the beach. The house had everything you could possibly need from condiments and spices to toys for the pool; Not to mention the sand area next to the pool i have two boys and they loved it, they spent lot of time building sand castles and swimming in the pool. Overall this is a wonderful place to stay, we would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. We will definitely be returning for our next florida vacation. P.S. The house really is as beautiful as it looks in the pictures!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/8

We had such a wonderful week at the Bungalow. It was our first big trip with our six month old son. We stayed the week before Christmas while visiting family. It was so nice to have so much space for all of the baby stuff. It was fantastic having a separate room for the baby so that we could still watch TV or have dinner while he slept. The house is fully stocked and is a great place to entertain. We had friends over several nights for Happy Hour and also hosted a Holiday Dinner for family. It was so nice to have a house located so central to family & friends. We actually walked to my Mom's house for breakfast a few mornings. We plan to visit again and again. We highly recommend the Bungalow!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/11

We stayed at the Bungalow for our first trip since our first child was born and couldn't have been happier. The house was beautiful and location was great. The pool area was the best part of the trip, especially with a 7mo old. Pool was right there along with powder sand for building sand castles, and a great cabana for enjoying drinks under the stars. The beach was a short 15min drive and store was 5min. The house had all the amenities you could need, even basic condiments in the fridge and cabinets. The television(which was rarely used because of outdoor area) was great along with a selection of great movies to watch on those coolish nights. The walk-in closet in the master suite had more than enough room to hold all of our stuff, not to mention a plethora of towels, extra blankets & sheets. The outdoor shower was also a nice touch. The owner was very nice and accommodating, not too intrusive at all, but at the same time making sure if we needed anything just to call. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends; it is a true gem located in a quiet neighborhood.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/7

My husband and I truly enjoyed this little peice of paradise for our honeymoon. It was like having a mini resort all to ourselves. The attention to detail and the wonderful privacy made it a true place to de-stress and relax. And with so many things to do and see nearby makes it even better. Even though the weather did not exactly cooperate with lots of rain and a trip to the ER with a case of tonsilitis was necessary, it did not take away from the wonderful, much needed stay. We plan to visit again and would reccommend this bungalow to anybody wanting to relax.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/7

I thought i was staying in a resort by the pictures of the house but boy was i wrong. The house wasn't clean and the pool and grill was dirty. The pictures are very deceiving. They should be updated. The tv didnt work our last night we were there also its an old projection screen you can't see during the day. Make sure the house is clean or you won't get your deposit back. Lets just say im a cleaner and i did everything he asked took the bed sheets off bed and in the wash cleaned the counters and the bathroom and he complained about a little dog food on the floor from my 3pound dog and took part of our deposit.i had to scrub the floor it's a vacation. one more thing the grill was filthy. There was a big sewer rat in the pool. SO BEWAREOwner response: My daughter has been cleaning the Bungalow since early 2009 and the Bungalow is always clean upon your arrival. Since then 125 plus couples and families have given us one 4 star and the rest 5 star reviews. Our pictures are current and most people claim they don't do justice to the Bungalow. We employ a pool company to clean and professionally maintain our pool. Because we do not charge a cleaning fee we just ask you respect the Bungalow especially if you bring your beloved pets. We do not expect our guests to "scrub floors".In this instance we agreed to waive a $50.00 pet fee and per our contract regarding pets we only ask that there be no evidence of a pet when you leave regardless of whether it weighs 3 lbs or 50 lbs.. A $25.00 pet fee was imposed as a result of the guest's failure to clean up after their pet and the remainder of their deposit returned. The grill was an oversight on our part. We failed to check it after the prior guest and that was our mistake. The projection television is being replaced in the living room. There are additional televisions in other rooms that you can watch in a pinch. This has been our first complaint with regard to the television thus far. We find that while vacationing in beautiful S.W Florida television is not the #1 priority. Read our guest's reviews and you be the judge. We have a couple arriving in 1 week for their 3rd stay in 2 years and have had multiple repeat guests. Duncan

We had a perfect Christmas, the Kids enjoyed the pool kinda all the time thanks to the Solar heating which warms the water quickly. Shopping, restaurants and the Interstate are near and even the beaches at Ft.Myers and Sanibel are just 20mins away. It's surrouned in a nice and quiet neighbourhood, central to all belongings. My wife and I spent the week leading up to our wedding at Duncan's Bungalow. We used the Bungalow as a 'base' for our traveling friends and family to congregate for dinner or after dinner for drinks. There are only two bedrooms but the master suite is very spacious and the second has two beds. There is also an office with an internet connected computer and wi-fi access for your own computer. The Bungalow is ideal for accommodating a family or two couples, especially those interested in entertaining using the tropical atmosphere 'out back'. There is ample space for guests to lounge out back and since there is a barbecue grill and creative lighting and a heated pool, I think you might!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.
