Your Vacation Home Across the Street from Magic Sands Beach

Welcome to your home in Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was our home until recently, so it has everything you want to live well and comfortably. Sink into the two soft leather recliner chairs or the leather double recliner sofa in the living room while you watch cable TV or a DVD on the 42 inch flat screen. Or relax on the California King Temperpedic bed in the master bedroom and watch TV or a VHS tape. The two twin beds in the guest room are brand new plush tops. There's plenty of drawer and closet space for your clothes, and when they're dirty, the full sized washer and dryer in the master bathroom does them quickly. Both bathrooms are newly renovated, with a tile walled and river rock floored shower in the master bath and an extra deep tub in the guest bath. The appliances in the kitchen are only a few years old, and the stove is a glass top. You'll find all the pots, pans, dishes, and linens you'll need for your cooking pleasure. The 196 square foot lanai has chaises for relaxing and tables and chairs for dining, and the fan overhead creates a cooling breeze. The central air conditioning, along with ceiling fans in both bedrooms, dining area, and living room keep you cool and comfortable at all times. Need to check your email? WiFi is set up and free, as are your phone calls and faxes throughout the USA.
You'll enjoy the quiet of the back building in the condo complex, and you'll have no trouble bringing your suitcases and groceries up. Your covered parking space is 10 feet from the quiet elevator, and your front door is the same distance when you emerge. And to keep the kids busy while you unpack, there are lots of crayons and paper and a huge bucket full of Legos.
When you're ready to play, the pool and spa are just down the driveway, along with saunas, a pool table and a take-one/leave-one library. Tennis anyone? The courts await you near the pool. Want to bar-be-que? Three propane grills are adjacent to the pool in a lovely pavilion area.
The best beach in Kona, Magic Sands, is directly across the street, and we have beach towels, boogie boards, and swim noodles ready for you to use. Kahalu'u Beach, with excellent snorkeling and loads of sea turtles, is just a mile down the road, and if you forgot to bring your snorkeling gear, rentals are available right at the beach. For shopping, dining, and movies, Keauhou Shopping Center is a short two miles away, and Kailua town, with even more shopping and dining, is about four miles down the road. Kailua is also the home of the Hawaiian royalty's Hulihe'e summer palace and Mokuaikaua, the first church the missionaries built in the islands.
Further afield you'll find Pu'u Honua o Honaunau (the Place of Refuge), Volcano National Park, historic Hilo town, Akaka Falls, Waipio Valley, Parker Ranch, and Hapuna Beach Park, among other wonderful places to visit.
We've enjoyed our Kona home at White Sands Village for years. We'd love to have you enjoy it also.

We found thsi unit to be very comfortable, well equipped and centrally located for our Kona stay, The owner was great to work with, and was very prompt in refunding the security deposit. I would be very comfortable in recommending this unit to friends and family for a stay in Kona.Recommended for: Age 55+, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This was a wonderful place to spend time on the Kona side! The unit is very clean and comfortable. The owners are very helpful and friendly. A great location - right at White Sands beach, between town and a fabulous snorkeling site, and there's also a grocery store nearby. The condo is fully stocked with anything you may need and there is a pool and hot tub where you can relax as you listen to the ocean waves. Highly recommended! Mahalo!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Good location generally; right across from best beach in kona. The condo was in the quiet part of already quiet complex which was good for sleeping. The condo had lots of stuff in general which was helpful like movies, books, brooms, dustpan, snorkel stuff, just more stuff then some of the other rental condo's in the complex which was nice when needed. No complaints.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This condo was exactly what we needed for our stay in Kona. Great location -- easy access to town, beaches, restuarants, etc. VERY clean and well main-tained unit. The building is showing its age, but the kitchen has been nicely updated and we LOVED coming home from a day at the beach and taking a shower in the HUGE master shower. This home has everything you will need for your vacation -- full kitchen utensils and accessories, plenty of towels, boogie boards, coolers, a huge tub of LEGOS for the little ones, even a snorkle set! This condo wasn't missing a thing! We definitely enjoyed our week here and came home with many memories of our trip! Mahalo again for sharing your home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Better than expected, the picture with the mismatched furniture did not look great but the price was more reasonable and the condo itself was just fine. I would say it was extremely quiet (removed from traffic noise), but if you leave the patio doors open, the birds are quite noisy in the morning. I highly prefer birds to motorcycles so it was fine with me. Needs a couple of kitchen utensils (some barbecue tools), but everything else was great, newly remodeled, etc.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you, John, for your review. We love waking up to the birds, but we realize they may not be everyone's cup of tea. We will be in Kona in a few days and will get the barbeque tools you suggested. Mahalo, Lynn

Volcano National Park View on map
This is a must for every visitor. Where else can you see our earth growing? The Visitor Center gives you a wonderful explanation of what is happening here geologically, and the Jaegar Museum overlooks the caldera where you can usually see the steam rising from water hitting the magma (molten lava) just below the surface. You might be lucky enough to see the magma itself. Don't miss the Thurston Lava Tube.

Waipio Valley Overlook View on map
Well worth the short drive! Waipio Valley is an isolated valley, reachable only by a very narrow, steep, 4 wheel drive road. It is one of the only places on the Big Island where taro is still grown. You can see a great deal of the valley from the overlook, and if it's been raining there are waterfalls on the far cliffs. There are also jeep and wagon tours which take you down to and through the valley, and they're very good. Do NOT attempt to drive the road down yourself!

Hawi View on map
Hawi is a very small, local style town, with the original statue of King Kamehameha. What is great is to take the drive to and from there, going over the mountain one way for misty, cool weather in lush green pasture land and along the coast, with a good chance of spotting whales, the other way.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: We have lived in Kona and loved it for over 40 years, working as a hotel manager and a high school teacher. Now that we are retired, we live in Montana most of the time to be close to our kids and grandkids, but we come back to Kona at least once a year to enjoy the warm breezes, soft ocean water, and to see our friends. We love Kona, and we hope you will too.
Why the Owner Chose White Sands Village:
We bought our condo when we were ready to downsize, and we have never regretted choosing White Sands Village. The condos are cool and spacious, the lanai is larger than almost any other condos in Kona, the pool area is a wonderful place to relax and make friends, the beach across the street is the best in Kona, and it is close to shopping. We especially love being in the back building where it is quiet and you look out on a peaceful lawn and tropical trees.
