We stayed two days at the cottage and enjoyed every minute of it. Clean, cozy and convenient. The cottage had everything we needed. Maria was a welcoming and extremely helpful host. She even called to tell us that there was a beautiful full moon above the cottage and that we should go outside to see. Thanks Maria for making our trip to Maui that much more special! This is a beautiful, immaculately clean, well furnished cottage for a wonderful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the of the busy, touristy sections of the island. It has all the amenities you would need for a night, a week or a month of living. The pictures of the cottage are perfect...but to be standing on the deck looking at the ocean is so serene, majestic and peaceful. Just a walk down the road is the most beautiful view of the black sea cliffs and ocean I have seen. Breathtaking!! It is just minutes from Hana and from some of the most beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails in Hana. When you leave here you will know what Hana life is all about! Thank you Maria for being such a gracious hostess!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great location to explore east Maui. Clean, well kept, safe, and comfortable. Beautiful tropical jungle surroundings with a distant view of the ocean. Just a short scenic drive from the road to Hana. Trails, beaches, waterfalls, and natural pools are within a half hours drive. Delicious food up the road at the Nahiku food stands, in Hana at the Thai and many other food stands, and Hana Ranch Restaurant. Thank you Maria & Bob for the gracious welcome, sharing your home, and all the info on where to find all the amazing places around Hana. What a beautiful place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Lovely, well- equipped bungalow (although no oven except a toaster oven), clean and efficient. The owners were thoughtful and cordial. I'd recommend this rental for someone who wants to be off the beaten path since there were no stores or restuarants nearby.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Perfect location for trips to Hana, Seven Sacred Pools and everything and all the beaches in between. Pictures are an accurate representation of what you are renting. The place has everything you will need (beach gear, kitchen tools, supplies, spices/condiments, BBQ, washer/dryer, etc.). Just bring a flat of Costco water bottles (& milk if you drink it) on your way in and you 'could' get everything else in Hana. I’d also consider bringing eggs as for all the roadside chickens and roosters you see we didn’t find a single stand selling eggs. Or you could just bring all the food you want to eat as well, we did that but found we sampled the local food more than expected as there are plenty of road side stands to try and places to eat/buy food in Hana. The place has Satellite TV & WIFI if you want it, peace and quiet if you don’t. It rained hard promptly at dawn every morning and quickly stopped within 3-5 mins. Perfect way to start your day. Note that the coffee maker is a bit loud as it has a built in grinder (I couldn’t figure out how to switch it off for already ground coffee), and the bed has a bit more spring to it than we are used to. We plan on returning and wish we had stayed longer here as another VRBO condo we rented in Kihei was nowhere near as nice and relaxing. The addition of recycling bins would also be extremely convenient. There is a place in Hana to recycle your cans/plastic/bottles but the nickel redemption incentive is a lot of trouble to go out of your way to do on a vacation. We started the Hana Hwy late and it was dark the whole time. Achievable, but not ideal, as it narrows to the equivalent of 1 to 1.5 standard lane widths at numerous points and is very twisty. Bob gave us great recommendations on activities and was very nice.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Aloha! We loved it! Bob & Maria thought of every detail in their beautiful cottage. It really felt like home, I really wish it was! This was our 6 trip to Maui and we have stayed in East Maui a few times. This is by far the nicest and cleanest cottage we have stayed. Having not many restaurants on east Maui, they made cooking at the cottage easy by having all the necessities and condiments needed. We did not need to purchase and haul over simply everyday cooking ingredients. We stayed for three nights and loved every minute of it. We will definitely plan on staying there on our future trips to the island. Mahalo!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Maria and Bob could not have been more thoughtful and hospitable. Every detail to make a stay comfortable and effortless had been thought of, in advance, by the property owners. Nahiku is paradise but has it's own set of challenges, being so far off the beaten trail. From generators to telephone landlines not dependent on power to an on-site caretaker - all made a storm power outage a non-issue. The cottage is neat as a pin, airy, well-screened and perfectly decorated. Paradise in the jungle! Mahalo, Bob and Maria!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This place was amazing! I wish we could have stayed more than 2 nights. Maria was incredibly helpful when we arrived and gave us a great of places to visit the next day (hand drawn on a map, with mile markers indicated). All of her recommendations were top notch - the fish tacos, the coconut ice cream, the banana bread! Fresh fruit from the garden (and the neighbour) was so tasty! The setting was peaceful and exactly what I was hoping for. Tropical, lush and green - I miss you Nahiku!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Bob and Maria have built Shangri-la out of the rain forest on the road to Hana. They have carved out a clearing and done a class act of providing a little piece of heaven and opened it to travelers who venture to the wild and untamed east side of Maui. They have put every thing in to this cozy retreat that any one could ask for plus they meet you when you arrive and give you recommendations on what you should see and do while you are there. They reommended that we visit the Homoa beach where we used their beach chairs, boogy boards and cooler to experience one of the best bodysurfing beaches on the island. They then recommended that we hike the Pipiwai trail to the Waimoku Falls which should not be missed when you come to Hana. This house offers a place to stay in Hana at a resonable price, providing everything that you could want, while you are visiting one of the most beautiful places on earth. And to top it off, the weather while we were there was gorgeous. Not a drop of rain and clear blue skys the entire time. That doesn't happen on the east side of Maui very often. Thanks Bob and Maria for giving us an experience that we will always remember and making our trip to Hana the highlight of our vacation to Hawaii!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Awesome location and wonderful hosts, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in east Maui! Surrounded by Hawaiian rainforest in an idyllic spot with an ocean view, this cottage is amazing. Clean, quiet, restful, one-bedroom with a fully equipped kitchen, outdoor sitting area, BBQ, and more. My husband and I spent five nights here and wished it were much longer. Wonderful cottage that exceeded all expectations! Extremely clean and renovated with all modern conveniences (washer/dryer, microwave, flat screen tv, BBQ). Perfect size for us and our small toddler. Woke up each morning to a beautiful sunrise and birds singing. Hosts showed us around the house upon arrival and even dropped off a bottle of wine and meat for dinner. Grounds were immaculate, lush, and a great place to play kick play with our son. We'd recommend this place to anyone lookign to spend more than just a day in Hana. Well situated for exploring the east side of Maui.Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had never considered coming to Hawaii as we thought it would be just too commercial and busy for our simple tastes. Our stay in Nahiku was exactly what we hoped a vacation in Hawaii could be. The cottage was extremely well equipped (Thank-you Maria for thinking of just about everything!) neat and clean. We loved the location - it was quiet, peaceful and vibrant at the same time, with the sounds of the wind in the trees and the abundant bird life. We have already decided that should we come to Maui again it will be to the same lovely spot. Our favourite things were Hamoa and Koki beaches, delicious papayas and avacados, fresh fish, the walk up to the cross in town and the Pipiwai trail. We are still dreaming of Hawaii!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and our 2 yr old son just stayed here for 2 nights and it'll be remembered as a highlight of our Maui trip for years to come. Huge thank you to Maria and Bob for sharing this piece of paradise. We were lucky to have amazing weather here to explore the many remote beaches and waterfalls. The house was perfect, quiet, very well stocked, and set in an amazing location - it's pretty much at the end of a very rural road that ends at the ocean with two picture perfect waterfalls on each side. We'd love to come back here for longer next time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our first trip to Maui. Our first 2 weeks was in Kihei at a place that was dirty and did not have the emenities that were advertised, so when we arrived at our Jungle Cottage, it was like we finally reached our vacation paradise. This bungalow was much more than advertised. It was exceptionally clean, maintained and stocked. Maria was very informative and helpfull in providing us with anything we needed and lots of advise on the sites of this side of Maui. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable location to relax and recharge before heading back to the rush of our day to day lifes. I was going to write a review after our first night there, but I decided to wait until we had stayed our two full nights. We’re not only in love with the cottage, but also in love with Maria as well (Sorry Bob but we just can’t help it)! The yard is filled with plants and flowers including papayas, coconuts, gardenias, an avocado tree and more. Maria introduced herself and gave us a tour of the cottage. She showed us everything and how everything worked. This place is probably better stocked than most people’s homes – she even has coffee, spices, beach towels, boogie boards, free phone calls to the mainland, Internet access, satellite TV, DVD player, candles, cookbooks, magazines and more than I can even remember now and definitely more amenities than the resort we stayed in the rest of our trip to Maui!! The pictures don’t do the place justice – it’s so beautiful, clean and well-kept. We were only there for an hour before we decided that we really just wanted to move in and never leave!! Maria even got us a couple of papaya from the tree which made a delicious breakfast this morning. We will definitely stay here the next time I’m on Maui, and I’d probably stay more than two days next time. We could have just stayed at the cabin for a day – enjoying the wonderful view of the plants and the ocean. Mahalo Bob and Maria - it was such an amazing adventure the past two days and I really didn't want to leave and come back to Kihei today! If you want to know Aloha spirit - make sure you meet Maria and rent their lovely cottage!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful week in this lovely cottage in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. The location was fantastic! Lush green forest, fruit trees everywhere, and a striking shoreline just a few steps away. We found that the description of the listing was more than accurate, everything was better than described! The cottage is immaculate, extremely comfortable, and the best place to have a good solid restful night. No roosters at 4 in the morning!! Only a few lovely birds when the sun rises over the trees. The owners were extremely helpful, and great people to socialize with if the occasion presents itself. We also found that it is a short drive to Hana and many fantastic attractions on the north side of the island. We definitively recommend this beautiful cottage and location to anyone who seeks a quiet restful place away from the crowds. Thanks again for a fantastic week!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were so lucky to be able to stay here for 3 nights in September this year (2011) and we absolutely loved every single second! The cottage is super well kept, maintained and equipped (the kitchen was even better equipped than ours at home ;)), it is very comfortable and cozy and super clean (like you can already see in the provided pictures). There are coconuts, papayas, avocados, bananas and such on the very much looked after property which we were all allowed to eat :-). Very importantly the owner/manager is super nice and she really cared that we had a great time, THANK YOU MARIA FOR EVERYTHING! We would recommend staying at this cottage at any rate and at any time and if we get the chance we would love to return ourselves! Lars & MilenaDid you find this review helpful?
