The studio apartment (50 square metre/500 sq feet) is comprised of recently remodeled suite of rooms, with a private outdoor patio, in a 15th century of medieval building. The studio suite is located within the remnants of the ancient walls of the medieval town centre.

We have made every effort to maintain the antiquity of this charming studio during renovation. In the same complex we also have a one bedroom apartment for rent up one flight of stairs, please ask us for further information about our other three two bedrooms apartments. Modern bathroom, kitchen and living room make the unit an ideal place to relax while exploring the region. The apartment is rented on either a weekly basis or a three night minimum stay.

While staying with us you will be a short walk to several bakeries, butcher shops, bars, restaurants and other amenities all within the medieval town centre. In addition to wine tasting and sightseeing you can spend your days walking or cycling the many trails in the area the best of which run along the Canal Lateral à La Loire. There is also the opportunity to travel down the Loire by kayak or canoe.

La Charité-sur-Loire is an hour and 45 minutes south of Paris. The owners live a two minute walk from the unit and are always on hand to answer any of your questions or if you need help with your French. Please see our website for more information of activities in the area.

A very warm and comfortable studio apartment. It was very clean and everything was in good working order. There is a nice sitting area in the main room and the kitchen is quite separate and has it's own table and chairs. Another plus is that this studio is on the main floor, as a result there are no stairs. There is also a nice private area to sit outside. You can walk to the shops in a few minutes and there is a nice bakery on the first corner of the main street. For two people an ideal spot to stay in this beautiful French village. The owners were very friendly and most helpful in regards to where to shop and where to eat. They also gave us many good ideas on what to see in this area of France. We also rented two bikes from the owners and found some great cycling on dedicated cycling pathways. I will recommend this place to all my friends and relatives.............

We enjoyed our completely modern renovated suite while still experiencing the ambience of the 16th century. Kelly and Byron's attention to detail provided us with all the comforts of home. They also made an extra effort to make sure that we were well informed about the town, the area and French customs. We found their ability to speak English extremely helpful. They were available to answer any questions that came up. The suite was great value and we would have no hesitation in recommending it.

My husband and I stayed here for five days in April during our honeymoon. I cannot recommend it highly enough! Both the accommodation and the town itself. The Bardin Suite was perfect. Immaculately clean and well stocked with kitchen equipment. The Harkers are exemplary hosts. They were so welcoming. And the town was our favorite in all our travels. A great place to relax and enjoy the French country life. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you Byron and Kelly for providing a spot that we will always cherish!

This is a wonderful suite, very atmospheric and comfortable. It's roomy, offers all mod cons, and its very walls speak of times past. Byron and Kelly have done a wonderful job of renovating gites which offer travelers centuries of history and ambience and contemporary travel comforts. Their care and concern for their guests are exceptional, ranging from stocking the suite with a wide range of recreational reading and books and brochures about their area through offering practical help with information about where to find bakeries and shops to helping us resolve rental car issues. We loved staying here, seeing castles, ancient towns and churches in the area with this great base in La Charite to welcome us at the end of satisfying days of sight-seeing. Far more than a place to sleep, this seemed our home in Burgundy, and we probably commented to each other every single day we were there how happy we were to have found such a terrific place to stay.

When we arrived in La Charité-sur-Loire, we settled into this beautiful studio apartment with massive stone walls, a private patio bursting with flowers and even a tower! Everyone needs a tower. Amid all of this ancient charm is a fully modern kitchen and bathroom - sparkling clean. We marveled at how fortunate we were to have found such a perfect base for our vacation. The Harkers are warm and gracious hosts. We’d found old France; the way it used to look – stone houses, brightly painted shutters and window boxes, vineyards and bistros. Within about an hour's drive are the Chateaux of the Loire, world renown vineyards, and numerous Romanesque and Gothic churches of historical significance. In town, the chocolate shop, the Church of Sainte-Croix-Notre-Dame, the wine store and the many bookstores make La Charité-sur-Loire a picture postcard town. This is heaven. Our only problem was returning to the "real" world. We started planning our return on the plane ride home. We highly recommend this gîte.

This holiday was our first experience of staying in a Gite, and we were very impressed. The Gite, typically french, was very well equipped and catered for all our needs. We found it very clean and comfortable. Being situated in the town, we found the restaurents in easy walking distance. We enjoyed walking around the Medieval town and the views of The Loire, all very pictuesque. The owners, Kelly and Byron could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The information they provided was very helpful for planning our visits to the surrounding areas. We would loved to have used the little terrace but unfortunately the weather was not kind to us but it didn't spoil our holiday as we found plenty to see and do. We would certainly like to go back again.

This review is long overdue. While I’ve stayed in several of the gites owned by this company and have enjoyed them all, the Bardin is my favorite! I’ve stayed in the Bardin Suite 6 times in the last few years - during all four seasons. I visit Paris often and La Charite sur Loire provides a perfect balance from two perspectives of France. La Charite is only 2 hours from Paris by train. Every time I visit La Charite sur Loire, I’m drawn back to this lovely and charming apartment. It’s ancient stone walls, terracotta floors and wood beamed ceiling truly meets my French expectations! There are numerous reasons I enjoy this particular suite so much. It is on the ground floor and has a private patio with plenty of greenery. The apartment is light, airy and extremely private. It’s just steps away from the center of the village, yet ultra quiet! I’ve had many wonderfully restful nights in the Bardin. The kitchen has a quaint dining area, with a window to the patio. I tend to stay in daily contact with work in the US. The patio and dining area have truly been one of my most pleasurable virtual work environments! The suite is quite spacious. It has the most amazing old stone fireplace. The owners told me that it was buried in a wall and discovered during the renovation. I’ve staying in many hotel rooms, rental apartments and gites, and I must say the Bardin is my most memorable! I love the bathroom. It is open, full of light and has plenty of space for my personal items. La Charite sur Loire is lovely place to relax, reflect and a great center hub for traveling around the region. I have thoroughly enjoyed La Charite during the spring, winter, summer and fall. One of the aspects of the Bardin Suite I enjoy the most is no matter what time of year; it is easy to regulate the temperature. I stayed there during the Christmas holidays. It was nice and cozy. Again, I was staying in the suite in early July 2011, while all of France was experiencing a heat-wave. The Bardin Suite remained cool during my entire visit! Literally, I would comeback near the end of the afternoon and it was like walking into an air-conditioned space, without cool air blowing on me. Again, I can’t share enough how much I enjoyed this space! DJM, San Antonio, TX, USA

Owner response: La Charité-sur-Loire is indeed enjoyable in all seasons. We kept as much character as possible in our Bardin Suite, but made the kitchen and bathroom with modern amenities. We are happy to have our guests return and stay with us!

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 2003

About the owner: Hello, we are Byron and Kelly Harker from Vancouver on the West Coast of Canada. We have had the opportunity to travel widely over the years, and have always enjoyed returning to France. In 2003 we decided to sell our home in Vancouver and move to France. We discovered the delightful town of La Charité-sur-Loire in Burgundy and immediately fell in love with the town and the area. In 2004 we opened the first of our vacation rentals and currently have five such rentals in the centre of this medieval town. We enjoy the many festivals in town and the area throughout the year. We are close enough to Paris to 'pop up' for the day. We enjoy sharing our love of the area with our guests from all over the world.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
La Charité-sur-Loire is south of the rain and north of the heat and as a result has very enjoyable weather. Our vacation rentals are in the centre of town and you are able to walk out your front door and enjoy the many bakeries, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. The Loire River is two blocks away and it has lovely beaches and walking paths along the riverbank. There is canoeing and kayaking on the river. We are close the wine areas of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire where you can meet the wine makers and enjoy tasting their wonderful wines. The castles of the Loire Valley are a two hour drive from us and make an enjoyable day trip. La Charité-sur-Loire is becoming an art, book and music cultural centre and as such there are many festivals throughout the year.
