We had a remarkable time on vacation at The Owl's Nest. The home was lovely - very clean and very easy to feel comfortable. My 5 year old twin boys LOVED it. The full basement with toys, the trampoline and just playing outside in the grass kept them very very happy. I was thrilled with the kitchen, I found it to be very easy to cook, with so many utensils and pots that I could make a variety of meals. I can't say enough about how wonderful this house was. The owner's were great, accomodating and easy to contact if we had any questions. I would definately return there. As a matter of fact, my kids keep asking when we can go back to 'the country house'!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.

Renting Owl's Nest for the New Year weekend was the best idea we ever had! As soon as you enter, the beautiful decor makes you feel as if you were at home. We were very pleased to find this home exactly as represented in listing...Even better with the peaceful surroundings... The house has every amenity you could need and is private and comfortable. It's much bigger than it appears in the photos. Our children enjoyed the basement activities. The bedrooms make you feel comfy and all the linens were fresh and clean. The kitchen was very well-equipped and fully stocked, so we didn't have to worry about any spices or little things that we may have forgotten to bring up. The open floor plan and high ceilings throughout, are warm and inviting, with tasteful artwok and nice decor. Not only will you enjoy your stay here, but you'll want to come back. An amazing house, Great owners… Can't wait to go back, I would definitely suggest this place to others...Recommended for: Families with young children.

We stayed at the Owl's Nest for a four-day Christmas holiday. We were a party of 8 adults plus 3 kids and we found the place to be perfect for us. Actually every part of the house was more impressive than the pictures and we particularly liked the kitchen and the fireplace areas. We did a lot of cooking, we cooked everything we ate over our stay, and the kitchen pretty much had every piece of tools and equipments we needed! It was a very spacious kitchen and naturally half of us stayed there at any given point. The other half would stay in front of the fireplace playing games, reading books etc. It's a very well designed space with high ceiling and a lot of light. What was really great about the house in general was that it had everything we had liked from a log house while being a modern architecture. It gave us a lot of comfort and convenience while still giving the feel of being deep in the woods. We loved the sound system which is wired throughout the house. We also enjoyed watching movies in the media room, whe we found a lot of DVD and games. The house was very very clean and bathrooms were the other favorite part of our stay. For those with kids, I'd mention that the playroom in the basement gave our kids endless fun. It is spacious filled with so many toys and the space was totally safe to leave them playing! We recommend the place to any big party of friends and families like us who loves to enjoy being outdoors.Recommended for: Families with young children.

Our group of 9 stayed for an extended weekend in November and were really pleased with the whole experience. To start, the house is beautiful and very clean, with great bedding, plenty of plush towels and nice soaps and shampoos. The owners left a lot of information re: the surrounding area, hiking options, restaurants, shopping, things to know about the house. The kitchen was fully stocked, so we didn't have to worry about any spices or little things that we may have forgotten to bring up. There was more than enough space for all of us and we really enjoyed the roomy kitchen and living room to relax and hang out in. The house is just beautiful and it was a treat to have a getaway with nice things: plate sets, cooking utensils, towels, etc...it felt like a friend had prepared her house for you to stay in. No Ikea castoffs and mismatched, second hand items in this house! Those little things really made our stay that much more enjoyable.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children.

We stayed at the Owl's Nest for one week. It exceeded our expectations in every way. The house is absolutely gorgeous, and fully stocked so that you feel at home. The carpeted area in the basement was a wonderland for our toddler - he had so much fun. The rest of the home is very comfy and kid friendly as well. There is no shortage of bathrooms in this home, so it was super convenient for the ten of us who stayed. It is secluded on its own plot of land, and there is plenty of parking, privacy, and quiet. The owners were very thorough and had detailed instructions for us on every aspect of the workings of the home, so we never felt unsure about how to do anything like turn on the fireplace, the televisions, even where to get groceries! The owners were available to us but did not impose in any way on our stay (no unannounced visits or "check up calls"). But, we didn't need to contact them because we had everything we needed! Thank you! We WILL be back!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Immediately upon entering the "Owl's Nest" you are dazzled by the gorgeous interior as the tantalizing wood smell of the home works its magic on you. There are two wings to the home, with fine wooden staircases leading up to each. The master bedroom on the left has its own bathroom and the two bedrooms up to the right share a bathroom. The bathrooms are each equipped with fantastic jacuzzis and are tastefully decorated (e.g,. antique window frames serve to hold the mirrors in the bathroom). The entire home in fact is beautifully decorated. The island in the kitchen has copper pots hanging overhead, there are antique cabinets in the dining room, comfortable couches and sofas in the living areas, etc. There is a computer that is conveniently located in the kitchen, and the appliances are all new and modern (e.g., the washing machine tells you how many minutes until the end of the cycle, and the dryer flashes to let you know to clean the lint tray). We were me, my two young-adult sons, and my brother and we stayed three nights--and we each had our own room (my oldest son slept in the bedroom on the basement level). For two of the nights, my parents joined us (they used the pull-out couch in the TV room). I therefore believe that the cost of staying at this home was quite reasonable given what the alternative would have been had we taken just so many hotel rooms, and of course in a hotel you don't get everything that comes with a wonderful home! Thank you for a lovely stay!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Needing to escape the heat, we decided to take the family out to the country for a few days. On short notice and with a handful of kids our choices were a bit limited. We took a chance with this one and we happened upon a gem. Indeed, it was a bit more expensive than we had in mind to spend, but the house is straight out of a magazine, utterly spotless with everything needed to thoroughly enjoy ourselves. And to be fair, we didn't eat out once so we saved a load of money there (the house was stocked with basics including a large array of spices, etc). We played in the basement with the kids a lot of the time (I swear the basement is a playground, large enough to properly run around!) but prying them away from this space was a big undertaking!. When we did manage to remove the kids from the basement we went for walks and explored the area so we saved money there as well. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay, except the last, when we had to leave. Not sure we can afford it again soon, but when we can, we will be back, or the kids will have my head off! And yes, we saw deer!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My family and I have been looking for a second home in the area so we decided to stay in a VRBO for a few days to get a true sense of what it would be like. Let me say that we should be so lucky if we could find a home like this! It was clean, full of charm and much larger than we had anticipated (and pretty kid friendly). The kitchen and linen closets were well-stocked which immediately made us feel at home. We alternated our days taking trips to the pool, Swinging Bridge and using the hiking trails. The grounds are beautiful. Very serene. Assuming we don't find a place of our own, we will definitely return.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

About the owner: We live in NYC with our two boys and regularly use the home as a place to relax and unwind. We love cooking big dinners and hosting our family and friends throughout the year.
Why the Owner Chose Bethel:
We fell in love with the home the minute we saw it. We bought it as a place for us to retreat away from the city. Because it's only 100 miles from NYC, the drive is always manageable.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
Each home within the community is nestled on a minimum of 5 acres affording every home a sense of privacy. The restaurants, lakes and nearby entertainment are just minutes away but the home is totally peaceful. You will see stars year-round, the fireflies in the summer, the leaves change color in the fall and snow covered trees in the winter.
