Kensington & Chelsea house description
A stone's throw from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, this charming Regency house (1,900 square feet) has recently been restored.
The street is a very quiet residential road on the border of Notting Hill and Bayswater, close to the designer shops of Westbourne Grove and the famous Portobello Rd antiques market. Queensway is just around the corner, where there are two tube stations (Central, District and Circle lines, all Zone 1) and therefore any part of central London is no more than 20 or 30 minutes away by tube. The Heathrow-Paddington Express is 10 minutes away. Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park is at the end of the road with the famous Princess Diana 'Peter Pan' playground only 5 minutes away. Kensington Palace, Princess Diana's former home in Kensington Gardens, has been reopened after extensive renovation and will be a popular attraction. London's main museums and the Royal Albert Hall are a short walk away on the other side of the park. Skating and bowling is available in Queensway. This area is renowned for fashionable celebrity restaurants, cafes and delis.
Buses go from the end of the road to Marble Arch/Oxford Street and the Oxford Tube bus will take you direct to the city of Oxford (a very good day trip).
The house is set back from the road with a pretty front garden. On the ground floor there is a large, gracious, double aspect drawing room. This room has satellite TV and an iPod dock. The eat-in kitchen in the bay window on the lower ground floor benefits from the morning sunshine. Miele appliances including dishwasher, washing machine, US-style fridge freezer and additonal freezer, oven, steam oven, warming drawer, Quooker (for boiling water on tap) make domestic life as simple as possible. The kitchen opens onto a large dining room/playroom/entertaining room with seating for 8 people and a Bechstein upright tuned piano. There is also a guest restroom on this level. Between the floors, a corridor leads out to the rear garden where you can enjoy the afternoon sunshine and alfresco meals.
The master bedroom on the first floor opens onto a balcony with willow and bay trees. The master bed is american Empire-sized and has a TV/DVD set into the wall opposite. There is a separate bathroom with large bath and rain shower and a study/bedroom with double bed.
On the second floor are two single bedrooms and a further bathroom with large bath and rain shower. One of the bedrooms has an additional children's truckle bed and dollshouse.
A hamper of groceries will be provided, as well as useful guidebooks and a file full of local information. We will be happy to give you advice on any aspect of your trip - please don't hesitate to ask.

London Olympics with a family of 5
London Olympics with a family of 5
A gem. The location cannot be beat in our opinion. A quiet street, within one block of Kensington Palace, beautiful morning jogs in Hyde Park, and less than one block from 2 different tube stations. Coffee shops, grocery stores, restaurants, Nodding Hill, all within a few blocks. The house itself was immaculately clean, uncluttered, and comfortable. Sophia went above and beyond with area recommendations, interesting web updates in the area, her favorite pubs....we found everything she offered very helpful. Even before we got there she was quite generous with her time when I asked her multiple planning questions... She also left us a welcome basket with coffee, orange juice, fresh eggs, toast, etc to help us settle in! it was wonderful. We would stay here again without reservation.

This home was perfectly suited for our needs, a family of 6, providing a safe and comfortable base from which to enjoy London and the Olympics. It is a 5 minute walk to 2 London Underground stations, multiple grocery stores and pubs, and Hyde Park, affording us plenty of options for local sightseeing or travel, and when one subway line had major delays we were able to quickly re-route to another. In addition, the owners were so gracious, meeting us upon arrival, familiarizing us with their home, and providing some essentials for breakfast and snacks so we would not immediately need to run out for supplies upon arrival. We quickly settled into this beautiful house; it was clean, comfortable, very well maintained, and had all the comforts of home. We highly recommend this home for the location, comfort and friendly, helpful owners; it was just what we needed and it all exceeded our expectations!

We loved our stay, and hated to leave!
We loved our stay, and hated to leave!
Sophia and Peter - We loved our stay in your wonderful home; it was perfect for families in every way. Its location is ideal: just across Bayswater from Kensington Palace and Kensington Gardens, with its 'Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Playground' and the Playground's centerpiece - a full size Pirate Ship. (Our two grandsons, 6 and 4, would have stayed there most of our whole week in London if we had given them the option!) For adults, your home's living areas are elegant and yet comfortable and well equipped, whether you want to curl up and read a book, or cook a gourmet meal. For children, the house has a whole floor just for them, toys everywhere, and a garden for outdoor playtime. Located around the corner from two tube stations, Queensway and Bayswater, your home has a large assortment of guidebooks and maps to aid in planning London adventures. And your delightful welcome basket added a wonderful surprise for our arrival. Nearby are all types of restaurants, hotels, and shops (we particularly liked the ones we found in nearby Notting Hill.) Everyone in our family (two grandparents, two parents, and two energetic little boys) loved being in your home, and we look forward to staying there again.

New year in London!
New year in London!
Our experience in this house has been excellent! A very quiet neighborhood, but at the same time close to hyde park, portobello road and many other interesting places in the center of London. The house was really comfortable, heating was excellent although it was a wide four floor house. The interior garden was cool !! and the gift basket in our arrival very useful and surprising. Peter gave us all the facilities to make us feel at home. We were six adults, and the experience of being all together in a house was much better than in a hotel. I hope one day we can return in Christmas to this amazing city and it will be a pleasure staying in this house in Notting Hill.

Beautiful home in Notting Hill
Beautiful home in Notting Hill
This home is in a great location in Notting Hill, near Hyde Park and just a few minutes from Queensway tube station and a few more minutes from Notting Hill Gate tube station. Kensington palace is 5 minutes walk. Grocery shopping, dining, pubs and transportation so close by! In spite of its central location to amenities, the street is so quiet you could almost hear a pin drop. The home itself is spacious and comfortable. Our entire family of six was comfortable and we were able to prepare meals in the well-appointed kitchen and relax in the library without feeling crowded. Mid-week service was very nice, and the welcome basket was much appreciated. Peter and Sophia were very gracious hosts, with copious offers of help with anything we needed. We would rent this property again without hesitation and hope to do so in the future!

London at my doorstep...Guest comment entered by owner
London at my doorstep...
From the moment we arrived and the front door opened we knew we had arrived to a very special home. The four levels gave each of us privacy and the garden and kitchen on the first floor brought us all together. Each day we walked thru Hyde Park across the street past Kensington Palace & Gardens. You can walk to Kensington St. where we found the best restaurants, pubs and wonderful cupcake boutique. You can rent bicycles across the street for the day and you have easy access to all major London attractions. The Big Bus stops just down the block to enjoy hopping on and off through out London's attractions. We will love to come back to what feels like home away from home. Thank you Sophie & Peter for your gracious gift basket upon arrival. It would be such a pleasure to host you in our beach home Villa St. Tropez in Florida. Thank you for creating a perfect vacation for my family. Victoria
