Savannah townhome description
The Savannah Lark - a charming Federalist style two story brick townhouse built in 1854, recently updated and tastefully decorated in antiques and reproduction furniture to help provide the full Savannah experience. The location is ideal - in the Downtown Landmark Historic District between Liberty St. and Oglethorpe Ave., just east of the Colonial Park Cemetery. The townhouse is exactly midway between River Street and Forsyth Park and thus an easy walk to most all of Downtown Savannah's attractions.
The Savannah Lark provides two bedrooms, one and a half baths, open living, dining and kitchen areas, and a private, landscaped courtyard for you to enjoy when not out exploring the beautiful city around you. Upstairs the master bedroom has a queen bed and lots of closet space. The other bedroom has matching twin beds and a fireplace. A large bathroom with tub and shower is located between the two and a supplemental half bath is downstairs. An additional twin mattress is available for a fifth companion.
Parking on the street is unmetered and readily available on the adjoining cross street. You will not need an auto for exploring the nearby sights of Savannah or accessing restaurants. The neighborhood is quiet, friendly, safe and feels residential but located in close proximity to the attractions and nightlife of historic Savannah.
Note that this is a self contained end unit brick town house with the original 1854 floor plan and is within the original, over one foot thick masonry walls - not an apartment or condo carved out of an existing home or an old commercial building converted into multiple unit spaces. It is quite private and you do not feel like you are intruding or sharing others living space and their noises. The attached rear courtyard is walled and has a gate with side street access and the space is for your use only, not shared outdoor space as in many other rental units.
For your easy reference, I use and keep updated the VRBO calendar. Check it out for availability of dates.

Beautiful house! Perfect location! Can't wait to stay here again. Larry was so detail oriented and it made all the difference. Slept four girls comfortably!

This was my first trip to Savannah---brought my mom for her 70th birthday, as well as my aunt and cousin. The four of us were very comfortable here, and we felt very much at home. The property is in a wonderful location, very close to downtown. Parking was never a problem--we just parked on the street right in front of the gate leading into the courtyard. On Saturday night the street sweeper comes, so we just had to move the car to the other side of the street for that night. The property is very clean, well-maintained, and well-stocked with linens, kitchen utensils, etc. The best part about this property is the owner, Larry. What a joy to deal with! So friendly and helpful, and always accessible. We accidentally left a TempurPedic pillow behind, and Larry very kindly boxed it up and even shipped it to us free of charge. I would definitely recommend this property if you are coming to Savannah.

This Savannah beauty was true to its name. Just stepping in the front door you feel like you've been transported back to the 19th century. The homes decor and charm take you back to that old style feeling, while still having all the amenities you could ever need. The owner was wonderful and answered every one of our calls and questions promptly. We'd recommend the property to anyone :-)

This place is AWESOME!!
This place is AWESOME!!
We had a wonderful 4 night stay in Savannah, and the Savannah Lark was an excellent choice that really contributed to our fun! It has everything the description explains and more!! We felt so at home!! The layout of the house is perfect, it was clean and very nicely maintained. Larry gave us great instructions and tips for finding what we needed. It was an easy walk to River Street (10-12 min.), City Market and the other sight-seeing areas in the historic district. We also had to travel to other areas of Savannah for a family reunion and to visit family - but getting on the interstate was a snap from the Savannah Lark!! It's on the edge of town, so getting to the highway does not take long at all! We even made two beach trips over to Tybee Island and that was easy too!! The patio was the best! We loved having drinks in the afternoon, and morning coffee in the little garden patio!! I would highly recommend this place to any traveler coming to Savannah! I hope to come back in the next couple of years and we will stay here again! FYI - if you check in at 3:00 and the parking is not as close as you would like - don't worry!! It's just crowded with SCAD students and they are gone by 5:00 at latest!! Otherwise there was always a spot close by, especially over the weekend!! Be careful to pay attention to sweep signs and don't park on that street if they are sweeping that night!! I must also give a shout-out to Screamin' Mimi's Pizza, one block up the street!! They are great and we stopped in there each day for a drink or a snack!! They practically got to know us!! Thanks Larry for such a wonderful place! You did a great job in your renovation and decor of the Savannah Lark! I will be in touch next time we come to Savannah!

My family which includes my husband and me, our nanny and our two young children stayed at this townhouse comfortably for a week. This was our second vacation to Savannah, and we cannot recommend this city and the historic district enough. That said, we have mixed feelings about this townhouse and I struggled as to whether or not to give an honest review because most of what we disliked about this rental is really out of the owner's control and we sympathize with that. However, this problem really affected our enjoyment of our vacation. I'll begin with the positive. The home was extremely clean and comfortable. The decorations were interesting in a good way. There were many times when my husband and I would have conversations about wall art or a statue. The kitchen is very well equipped. A baby gate and a pack n' play are provided. There is an extra twin mattress stowed under the bed in the master. The private patio in the back has a grill. The outdoor space was a real plus. We ate several meals and my children played safely there everyday. Street parking was free and easy. Also, for peak season and the location within the historic district, the price was great! However, the location is part of the problem. Price Street is one of the few North/South streets that are not interrupted by a square so many people drive down this street fast. Also, there must be an ambulance dispatch located nearby because when sleeping in the front bedroom, our sleep was interrupted several times a night by howling sirens. Not to mention the small crowds of young people from the apartment next door that gathered on the front sidewalk in the wee hours of the morning. Now we are urban dwellers and this kind of noise isn't particularly troubling for us, but we usually dilute the noise and sleep peacefully with white noise from a box fan. If I could make one suggestion to the owner, it would be to provide a box fan. This would give the upstairs bedroom much needed air circulation and solve the street noise issue. I'm not kidding when I say out of the whole week, I got 1 single sweet night of good sleep. The back bedroom was reported to be quiet. If we knew the extent of the street noise issue, we probably still would have stayed here - but just brought a fan along with us. Which I suggest you do, too, as the location is perfect really. Close to Broughton and Bay, but not too far from Forsyth either. You can walk everywhere from here! Enjoy your stay in Savanna!

Owner response: Glad you enjoyed Savannah and found my townhouse comfortable, well equipped, so centrally located and reasonably priced. I particularly liked that you found my pictures and decorative art interesting as I had spent a lot of time in many antique malls and flea markets in pursuit of them. It is unfortunate you experienced outside some street noise enough to have troubled your rest. It is not easy in a compact area like the historic district to avoid some street noise. I am aware of this occurring at times myself but have not experienced or had complaints before about it being as irritating as you experienced. I will place a sound machine to produce background noise in the room for future tenants use should they experience a similar occurrence. I will also look into replacing the two windows in the bedroom with new double glazed, more sound resistant ones.
This place worked perfect for us. We had two small children and 4 adults. It was nice to have an extra bed and pack and play. The kitchen had everything we needed. The location was great! We could walk all over in the historic down town and only 20 minutes from the beach at Tibee Island.

Very cozy townhouse.
Very cozy townhouse.
My family really enjoyed the stay at the Savannah Lark. It's very comfortable, warmed and well decorated. The price is a bargain for 4 of us ( me, my wife and my parents) and we couldn' t be happier. It's about 1 mile south of River St. and short walking distance to most of the attractions in historic Savannah. The house has a nice, small courtyard with lovely smell of Jasmine and it is 100 feets away from Crawford Square. I found out that it's easier to get to the townhouse by get on Ogelthrope St. and right on Price St.( one way street). We will stay here again if we go back to Savannah.Thank you Larry.

It was a perfect place for our trip. Everything was clean - and my husband is picky about that. It was as though we had stepped back in time. We parked the car and walked everywhere. His restaurant suggestions were spot on. The 17hundred90 was lovely. We felt very much at home.

We very much enjoyed our stay in Savannah Lark. It was within walking distance of River Street and many of the beautiful squares Savannah is famous for. The property was as described on the VRBO site. It is not luxurious, but it is very comfortable and a great value considering the location. It was well stocked with all the necessities for cooking and there were plenty of extra linens. The courtyard area was a wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee. The owner provided all the info that we needed as well as some great recommendations for places to eat and shop. The only cons would be that parking can be difficult, but if you've been to Savannah before, this will not come as a surprise. Secondly, the traffic noise can be bothersome, especially at night--atleast if you are not used to that sort of thing. However, neither of these things would keep us from staying here again. This was our first time using VRBO and the experience was hassle-free from booking to payment to actually staying at the property--which is what you want when you vacation--no hassle, no stress! We are looking forward to our next trip to Savannah.

About the owner: Love old houses and have worked on many of them over the years. My hobby has become my real vocation since taking early retirement from my corporate job. Why the Owner Chose Savannah:
I was smitten with Savannah when I came for St. Patrick's Day four years ago, Came back several times and wanted to experience the city more completely, so started looking for a place to buy. This townhouse provided a private, comfortable feeling and was in a very convenient neighborhood to everything Downtown had to offer.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
The Savannah Lark is a pre Civil War brick Townhouse in a comfortable residential neighborhood that is just a short walk away from the more bustling neighborhoods of downtown. I have enjoyed my time while staying here and working on the updating and then the furnishing and decoration. A lot of effort has been put into enhancing the 19th Century charm while incorporating modern conveniences. Many Antique Malls were searched to secure appropriate American Empire and Duncan Phyfe style furniture and other suitable decorative art and pictures.
