We stayed at camp beau de jour the first week of October, and had a wonderful experience! We went down with another couple to celebrate our 1 yr wedding anniversary. The setting that the house was in was incredibly peaceful with a beautiful view of the bay and the mountains. Every morning, we would sit outside and have our coffee overlooking the view which was a perfect way to start the day. It was very nice having our own private beach to fully embrace the beauty of the area without running into other tourists. We were able to have cayaks dropped off at the house, and one day we spent the day cayaking.. We packed a lunch and cayaked over to Lamoine beach state park and had lunch at the picnic tables overlooking the bay! It was such a fun and memorable experience! The house provided a perfect escape from our busy lives back at home.. Every evening after we returned from dinner, we sat by the fireplace, turned on music, and drank wine as we chatted. On our last evening, we bought lobster at the lobster pound, and brought it back and cooked it at the house. It was delicious, and the house came with everything we needed to cook the lobster and crack the shells. This house is one of the most warm and charming houses we have ever stayed in...it made it hard to come home!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had the opportunity to stay at Camp Beau Se Jour in Sept. 2012, just outside of Acadia N.P. Our intent was to fully explore the National Park yet feel like we were at home. Camp Beau Se Jour was a perfect place to allow us that dream; it had everything we needed. We truly enjoyed the lovely decor and beautiful view across Frenchman's Bay every morning with coffee in hand. Acadia was awesome; we climbed Jordan Cliff's to the top of Penobscot Peak = the highlight of our trip; soooo thrilling! One morning we rose extra early and headed to the top of Cadillac Mt. to see and photograph the sunrise; we hit it perfectly. Another day was spent at Schoodic Point where the tide action was amazing. Our final gift from Camp Beau Se Jour was our last morning when the sky lit up pink all over which was also reflected in the bay, WOW, WOW, WOW! We sure wish we had more time to further explore the many trails and nooks and cranies around the area. Thanks so much for letting us enjoy this special gem of a place!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was our second trip back to this cottage and we are coming for two weeks in 2012. This lovely cottage is an ideal spot to have a "base camp" for adventures in Acadia and Downeast Maine. The house is spotless, kitchen stocked with essentials and washer/dryer. We had kayaks delivered and hopped in our boats every morning with our cup of coffee for an early morning paddle in the calm waters. Close to Ellsworth that has some lovely restaurants and shopping..Cleonice was great, local/seasonal food and large wine selection. We hiked different trails in Acadia most days and ended the day at the lobster pounds or cooked at home and opened a bottle of wine on the beautiful screen porch. If you are looking for amazing atmosphere, a quiet setting and outstanding amenities (Fred's clams, kayaks delivered on site, and Dottie for emergencies !) this is your place....however you better book now, not many dates left! Our favorite spot for breakfast (blueberry pancakes, and yummiest pies since my Nana's) is Chester Pikes...don't miss that...Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

My family had a superb experience at Camp Beau Sejours. Not only was the setting beautiful but the cottage was a joy. It felt like home, was beautifully decorated and had all the amenities. No need to bring linens and towels. We rented for one week and did all the fun things we had time for but needed a second week just to enjoy the cottage. Lovely place to stay and play.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We met my brother and his wife who live in California for 2 weeks at Camp Beau SeJour. The house was very comfortable and well supplied with cooking essentials such as spices, coffee making supplies, linens and towels. The location was a bit far from Mt. Desert Island but we actually enjoyed being away from the crowds. It did mean that we drove for about 30 minutes to get to hiking, swimming and restaurants on the island. We loved being right on the water and brought our kayaks which we kept down at the beach. Someone kayaked almost every day and we saw an amazing array of wildlife from our boats. The first morniing there we spotted porpoises who circled our kayaks checking us out in ever smaller circles until we could actually see them underwater just a few feet from our boats. We also saw a bald eagle, ospreys and many gulls and other waterfowl. We hiked several great trails including Penobscot Mountain to Sargent Pond, the Beehive, Champlain Mountain and South Bubble. Jordan Pond house's popovers are not to be missed and were the perfect end to one of our hikes. We walked the carriage trails, went tidepooling at Ship's Harbor Nature Trail and shopped in Bar Harbor. Our favorite shopping day took us to Northeast Harbor which we visited after seeing the Asticou Azalea Gardens. We spent a day at Schoodic Point...a bit of a drive but well worth the time. We ordered clams from Fred and can honestly say that they were the sweetest clams we ever ate. He was very flexible and left them in the fridge while we were out. On our last night there we had a wonderful dinner at Havana in Bar Harbor and walked the sea cliff trail. I can truly say that it was best vacation we have had in a while. Our California family also loved it and felt that they had the best that Maine has to offer.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

The photos on the website just don't do Camp Beau Se Jour justice! The views of Frenchman's Bay, Cadillac Mountain and Acadia Nationial Park are breathtaking, and through exquisite design, can be viewed even while lying in bed! The peace and serenity is amazing. We loved the fact that we enjoyed total privacy and yet were within a short distance of Bar Harbor and Acadia Park to enjoy all that they had to offer, which we did. We spent much time exploring the Park, Mt.Desert Island (and others,) by foot, bike, car and boat and then ate our share of lobster and other fine fare at Thurmans, Ruth and Wimpys, The FishHouse and elswhere, including Finn's Irish House in Ellsworth. We visited museums, beautiful botanical gardens, shopped the shops , walked the beach, and found more than enough great things to do to fill the week. Robert and Laura have done an execeptional job providing such a peaceful and enjoyable vacation enviornment for others, which we would strongly recommend. Thanks guys, we will see you again!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wow!. We loved this house. We walked in and the music was playing, water could be heard on the shore line, and the house felt like walking through a Coastal Living magazine. Every inch of the decor was creative and very much the charm of New England. The screened in porch was wonderful. This was our first trip to Maine. We went to bar Harbor, took two boat cruises, ate lobster/clams everynight, walked through Acadia for two days, went to Bass Harbor, WInter Harbor, Northwest Harbor, ate at Chase's for the clam rolls(excellent), Jordon Pond House's popovers, the beautiful scenery , sunsets and full moon for two evenings. The Atlantic Brewery company was a great find too. Will definity be back. Loved it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We selected Camp Beau Se Jour for our spring vacation and couldn't be happier with our decision. We've rented vacation homes on the Oregon coast, the Blue Ridge mountains and the Florida panhandle and Camp Beau Se Jour was by far the nicest and most comfortable home yet exceeding our expectations. The cottage was immaculate and beautifully furnished with so many thoughtful details not normally found in a vacation "rental". We felt at home immediately and everything you need to relax is provided from the large selection of books and travel guides to the wonderful steam shower to the adirondack chairs outside overlooking the water. The kitchen has everything you'll need to cook full meals or steam lobsters/clams right down to the spices. One day the tide was out and we watched with anticipation as a local clam digger dug clams in the cove and then delivered some right to our door! Can't get any fresher than that! The view is spectacular and the cottage is set up to maximize the view from every room. The only sounds we heard were gentle waves and birds chirping. We visited nearby Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor each day only to be happy to return "home" to Camp Beau Se Jour. Thanks to the hosts, Robert and Laura, for a wonderful vacation stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our vacation travels have taken us to many wonderful rental properties but none have captured our hearts quite like "BeauSeJour". "BeauSeJour" is truly a "beautiful stay"...a charming, rustically elegant cottage in a woodsy, tranquil setting overlooking Frenchman's Bay with breathtaking sunrises, magnificent vistas of Cadillac Mountain and the most accommodating owners one will ever find. It doesn't get much better than this!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just returned from an amazing week at the cottage. Everything about this place is just perfect! The views from every part of the house are breathtaking and the furnishings just amazing. It's the little details that make the house so special though...the moose antler chandelier, the reclaimed doors, the handpainted furniture, the little collections of this and that placed so perfectly around the house, and the views - just stunning! No detail has been missed here. We saw plenty of wildlife in the area - an eagle, deer, lots of turkeys, porcupine, and lots of various birds. A little further from the trail heads within Acadia but worth every minute of the extra drive. Laura and Robert, thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. My children are already talking about planning a return visit and playing in the cove again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Beau Se Jour is truly a delight. We have rented vacation homes Downeast for over 15 years and, no doubt, this was the finest property we have enjoyed. Situated centrally and very private, it is ideal for exploring Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park, the gems further Downeast while being handy to Ellsworth with markets, movies, shopping etc. We loved having Bar Harbor Golf Course so close and arranged to have a kayak left at the house for our stay. With fair or not so fair weather, the vistas are stunning, the shore ever changing and the house is warm, open, immaculate and thoughtfully appointed with items that those "from away" appreciate: guide books, spare toiletries, spices, plenty of towels, linens and a full kitchen complement. Whenever I thought "oh gee I wish I had a...", I hunted around an lo and behold it was in the house. Ceiling fan keeps things cool in the day and a lovely gas fire warms the soul in the evening. The grounds are lovely and well tended. Strolling from the house through the area is quiet and enjoyable. It is clear that Laura has gone to great effort to make this a comfortable inviting home for visitors: she has succeeded beyond measure. The seasonal caretakers also deserve high praise for maintenance and keeping the property top notch. You will want for nothing except a few additional weeks' stay at Beau se Jour.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Laura & Robert and their beautiful property are true gems in the rental world! Upon arrival we found the house to be in beautiful shape, and it was in fact decorated to the nines, as other posters have indicated. The vistas are just as amazing as the little details you will discover throughout the house, and you will find yourself taking photos of both the interior as well as your outdoor surroundings due to their equal beauty. Though the house is a bit out of the way, I must say the views of the mountains from this rental make up for the extra driving one might have to do to arrive at their trail heads. Laura and Robert, thank you again for letting us stay in your beautiful abode! Camp Beau Se Jour is a vacation in itself! Robert and Laura pay attention to every detail and provide a beautiful and comfortable location for you to call "home" during your vacation. Everything you need is provided to cook your own meals, enjoy a steam shower, spend cozy evenings by the fireplace or just sit and enjoy the amazing views. The private beach is wonderful for walking, exploring and sitting to enjoy the view and sounds. A quick drive to Bar Harbor provides fantastic dining, shopping and sightseeing. Acadia National Park is a must-see and the audio CD/tapes provided give you a guided tour at your own pace (we went back twice!). Thank you for a memorable vacation that we plan on repeating next year! :0)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It simply doesn't get better. When we arrived, the place was immaculate, and everything neat as a pin. Even when it rained, we really didn't mind, because it was so delightful inside. The owners clearly have a penchant for detail. The place is sublimely furnished as if by a high-end New York interior designer. The kitchen is very well equipped (we ate out only once, at Havana, a must). The setting is ultra-private, with the evening quiet interrupted only by the occasional hoot of an owl. Despite the solitude, anything you need is a short hop away. It is very seldom, if ever, that one encounters a rental property of this quality. It's like being a special guest all to yourself in someone's private home. We hated to leave Beau Se Jour!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I and 2 friends just spent a wonderful week in late July '08 at "The Cottage" and thoroughly enjoyed everything. The cottage was superb - clean, comfortable, perfect size, well appointed, remote, and cozy. Laura and Robert are to be commended for their pick of the perfect location - overlooking Frenchman's Bay - and their attention to detail throughout the home. They provided EVERYTHING which made our vacation absolutely perfect and very memorable. We happily and enthusiastically recommend "The Cottage" to all visitors of Acadia.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed mid July for our honeymoon week. The cottage was incredibly clean and absolutely charming! Well stocked with everything you need to cook and be comfortable. The screened in porch was one of our favorite spots in the house. The cottage in completely private. A great alternative to the tourism in Bar Harbor. I would highly recommend this to people who want to "get away from it all!" Short drive to nearby towns and Bar Harbor.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

If you want privacy, amazing ocean views, and a wonderful vacation home close to Acadia, look no further. An entire wall of windows faces the ocean, and Mount Dessert Island beyond. The master has a king and is very comfortable, and the 2nd bedroom is very nice as well with two twins. A screened in porch, stone fireplace, and well appointed kitchen round out this perfect place.Recommended for: Romantic getaway
