Very friendly owners, everything was really clean and we had the posibility to do a lot of activities closed to the house like going to the beach, to the river and waterfall, to do horse riding and much more... But in the end the living room invites you just to stay an to relax at the couches. Montezuma is closed to the house, if you want to go out to eat or drink. At the end the perfect combination to realise your holidays with a lot of exiting activities and enjoying your freetime. We are a family of four persons and we were able to relax ourselves in that amazing atmosphere in the beautiful nature for 8 days.Owner response: Danke Clara, genau so!! Hatten einen super Zeitgeist!!

After months of work we found the perfect place to relax our bodies and souls. The atmosphere of the house and the beautiful environment is very inviting. You can lie in the hammack, go to the waterfall, lie in the sand of the white beach, ride horses or take a walk by the sea to a small island. You also can enjoy the delicios food in Montezuma, a small Hippie-village, close by the house. The kitchen and livingroom are so comfortable that you can prepare your own food and make a nice candle-lit dinner. You can feel the artistic streak of the owners in the whole environment. It's worth it to stay a nice long time.Owner response: It is making it all worthwhile to have nice guests like you who are able to enjoy our privileged location. Hope to have you back.

I have recently returned from a wonderful holiday in Costa Rica, and for the 4th year in a row, I chose to stay at this house. It is comfortable, clean, safe, private, and right in front of a beautiful stretch of beach. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, good water (hot and cold), AC in two of the rooms and a great hammock on the balcony for those much-needed afternoon naps. The house is surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers that attract many species of colourful birds. I highly recommend this house.Owner response: Thank you so much for the wonderful paintings you left. We all are looking forward to have you back.

Family of 4 (girl 10/boy 8) - 8 week period June 27 to Aug. 17/12. Property NOT directly on beach.- House large & well equipped & our kids had own rooms. Kids loved everything about this place & didn't miss TV & had fun in nearby river. Sometimes felt confined to the house being on 2nd story. Eventually got chairs to sit outside & had coffee there & hung out. - Can't see anything when you sit on balcony in master bedroom as it is a concrete half wall. You can barely see the beach from house or balcony as vegetation hides it. You can hear the surf - it is quite loud. The property is lovely with the exception of the mango juice production hut which is right beside the house. The caretakers Cinthya & Marvin (speak no English) work there early AM to mid PM. There's a wood workshop run by Peter (Canadian) and he works early AM until 4:30 PM. These 3 people were very helpful, generous and kind. They kept to themselves unless we needed help or had any questions. You are not alone here except for at night. That may be a good thing for some. We felt like we didn't really have our own place.- We didn't rent a car except for two extended trips.Taking the local bus was fun, inexpensive & pretty efficient. If you're up for walking, our 40 minute walk to Montezuma became one of our favourite things to do - beautiful & full of adventure. It was about 1 hour walk to Cabuya where the beaches are not swim worthy. We saw alot of howler monkey families while walking. Cinthya & Marvin found us 3 bikes to rent for $50 US a week. We got a smaller one for my son in Montezuma from one of the tour spots ($70 for 7 wks). - Rented a small 4x4 for 4 days & went to Arenal volcano & Monteverde. Beautiful mountain views on a very slow and bumpy ride in the Monteverde area - took 3 hrs to cover 38 kms. The property is very secure with its fencing and 2 guard dogs. They quickly became a part of our family. Don't like bugs NOT the place for you. Huge spiders, cockroaches, snakes, cicada, preying mantis, cute gueckos & bats (NO mosquitoes!) Beach across the house not ideal for swimming: rocky & big surf. Swam in Montezuma & Santa Theresa beaches. Went for a weekly pool swim & drinks at Hotel Caleje near Cabuya. Cost of food: groceries/restaurants similar to home (Ottawa, Canada) not inexpensive. Loved Montezuma - full of character, colourful people, lots of dogs, restaurants & vendors and nice beach. 8 wks a bit long in this area but overall great experience!Owner response: Thank you, Joanne, for your wonderful and accurate review. On your suggestion we will be setting up an outside area with table, chairs and hammocks under our gigantic strangler fig. Our mango juice production is once a year from May to June and was a little late this year. Women chatting while making great juice. And thanks for mentioning that Los Cedros Beach has only a small stretch (150m) where it is safe to swim at high tides. It has submerged rocks but no riptides and less tourists. Always check it out first at low tide. It´s great for fishing though. Hope to have you back.

I rented the house for a month with my boyfriend and another couple and it couldn't be any better. The location was great for surfing. Just a 2 minute walk to the best left rocks breake in the entire area. The house is halfway between Cabuya and Montezuma, but you don't necessarily need a car. The road to Montezuma is gorgeous and we thought of it as part of the trip. However, if you are not that into walking you can learn the bus schedules, ask for a ride or just call a taxi. The architecture of the house is awsome. It's has a modern style design, but still perfectly adapted to the surroundings. So it is a comfortable way to be in contact with nature. We really enjoy cooking, so for us one of the best amenities was the truly fully equiped kitchen. Also, the fact that the kitchen is opened to the living room, allowed us to cook while someone was sitting on the bar. Furthermore, we were even able to make an "asado" (argentine barbecue) under the huge higueron located in the house's park. We also found internet speed really helpfull, as one of my friends works with his computer. I would like to mention the owner's hospitality, who took care of everything. Just to ilustrate one gesture: one of the ceiling fans broke down and the next day we had someone installing a new one. But I would specially like to remark the kindness of the farm's care takers. They even taught us the complete mango juice preparation process. And of course we couldn't forget to highlight the two friendly dogs, who made us feel really secured.Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to write this review. It is our biggest reward to have happy guests and we try our best to keep it that way. Have a nice stay in Costa Rica.

We arrived later in the day after a very long day on the dry dusty road from Samara to find a beautiful house with all the amenities of home. The yard is huge littered with fallen coconuts (which we did cut into our first night) and the plantation behind is huge and inviting. I've never seen a mango tree before and we were lucky enough to actually pick a couple. The beach was so close that we didn't have to drive but located far enough away from Montezuma and Cabuya so that we pretty much had teh entire beach to ourselves with only the occasional beach wanderer. Loved the open aired concept of the house - loved the breezes and what we refered to as our "house hippos" the small geckos that come in to snap up any insects that may be attracted to the lights during the night. That being said we didn't have a problem with mosquitos or any other insect the whole trip - now this may be the area or the time of season but this being my second time to Costa Rica I have yet to use any bug spray. We loved that everything was very clean and well layed out and the day caretakers were never intrusive and kept the grounds clean and secured. Definitely will come rent this home again whenever I'm back in the area (the Montezuma area is my favorite place so far).Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We especially like that you mention the geckos. We have been breeding them. They make funny sounds as well!

Whether choosing a house for a two week period or a two month stay.......it is always difficult to know for sure what you will get by looking at the pictures. I have stayed at this particular house three times (and plan to go back in 2013)....therefore I can say with certainty that this house really is modern, well-maintained, and clean as seen in the pictures on this site. It has a fully equipped kitchen with appliances that really work. ---- the water is of excellent quality - no need to buy bottled water ---- the hot water really is hot !!!!! ---- the air conditioner in one of the rooms works quite well ---- the bedrooms have ceiling fans and comfortable queen size beds ---- 2 bathrooms (one with shower and one with a bath)for convenience and both have toilets that actually flush. (I have stayed in many different place in Costa Rica where the toilets just did not work !!!! ) ---- Housekeeping and laundry service if you so require ---- Excellent lighting in all the rooms ( for reading or writing ) with dimmers for the romantically inclined ---- WiFi connection for convenient communication with family and friends. ---- solid wood chairs that are actually comfortable -- unlike the plastic molded chairs in most inns and hotels in Costa Rica ---- a bus service on the road in front of the house (very cheap) to take you to town for supplies. ---- And a great area to hang a hammock under the shade of a huge Higueron tree for those afternoon naps !!! This house is comfortable, secure, private, and surrounded by beautiful tropical trees and flowers right in front of an absolutely beautiful beach for walking or swimming. I highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing, hastle-free, secure, and fun holiday.Owner response: Thank you so much, Mary. We are looking forward to have you here again next year.

Location location location. In addition to being lovely and well-equipped, the house is a perfect compromise for those who want to enjoy the benefits of Montezuma but don't want the crowds and the late nights. While it is a bit of a walk both to Montezuma (about 30 minutes on the road) and to Cabuya (about 40 minutes), it is right on both Playa Cedros, which is gorgeous, and the el Rio Cedros, which is the perfect place to cool down on a hot afternoon and often teaming with wildlife. And unless you come right after Christmas, you generally have both the beach and the river to yourself. Additionally, Jan is a friendly and responsive owner, who is full of good recommendations for when you do venture into either town. Who needs anything else? Despite our fabulous surroundings, we did end up packing a bunch of activities into our week-long stay, and we found reliable taxi drivers who would pick up us if we didn't want to walk into town (such as before we went to hike in Cabo Blanco for the day), so managed to do everything we wanted without renting a car, which makes the house a particularly good deal. In short, I'd wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Costa Rica.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My first trip to Montezuma. I moved to San Jose, Costa Rica over 13 years ago and had never visited Montezuma. I considered getting a hotel room for my holiday but decided instead to look to rent a house for the week. I had the good fortune to find Jan’s house. I really enjoyed my week there; the place was perfect in everyway. The house is beautiful, and it has a lovely energy, I felt at home there the moment I entered. It has a huge garden which you can roam around, a natural swimming pool cum mini waterfall right off the garden and the beach is just across the road. I went there alone but felt very safe and had two great dogs to keep me company. You can walk into Montezuma, it takes about 45 minutes, but is a lovely walk. Thank you Jan for offering us your wonderful home, it is soooo much better than a hotel. It is like getting a 5 star, fully equipped hotel suite with private garden, private pool at a bargain price… AineOwner response: Thank you so much, Aine, and good luck with your work in San Jose.

What a lovely place. We had a great stay at finca los cedros. Roomy, modern and secure with interesting architecture, it has everything you could need. The house is great and the owners are friendly and helpful. Very close by are the beautiful playa los cedros and the little rio los cedros with it’s lagoon where we spent many enjoyable hours. Waking up to the jungle sounds we had wonderful days at the finca, starting with a dip in the lagoon. After lounging about we’d prepare great lunches with local fruit, some from the finca, and fresh seafood from nearby Cabuya. Afternoons were for the beach and excursions to the Montezuma waterfall and the canopy tour. In the evenings we went to Montezuma for some tasty dinners followed by street entertainment outside Chico’s Bar. What a delightful vacation.Owner response: I am so glad you like it like we do, thank you and come again!

My family and I spent nine months in Montezuma, every day since we left we mention at least once a day how much we miss it and how we can't wait to get back! This house was perfect for us. It had all of the modern conveniences you could want (large oven and gas top stove, microwave, WiFi) but all the peacefulness that comes with living in the jungle. The beach (which is less than 100 meters from the house) was typically deserted and I loved swimming out in the warm ocean everyday and looking back at the jungle expanses. When people were on the beach it was usually the talented local surfers enjoying the perfect left point break. My husband learned to surf during our stay and could look out the living room window every morning to gauge the size of the wave! What could be better!?! After evening thunderstorms we would wake up in the morning to the sound of the fresh water stream behind the house rushing down our own personal waterfall. Unlike L.A., we could drink water straight out of the tap and it tasted better than any bottled water we could get in the city. The grounds (or the "finca" as we came to know it) have loads of orange, avocado, banana, coconut, lemon and lime trees. When I was craving a coconut, I would just send my husband outside to cut one down for me. It could not have been more perfect. We have two small children and they loved the freedom of running down to the beach everyday, but there was also plenty of space for them to play on the lawn while their father and I sat in the shade. The owners of this home are warm and friendly and made our stay very memorable. The house was extremely well cared for while we were there and we felt more like house guests than tenants My family and I have travelled to many different countries and stayed in many vacation rentals and this was by far the best. The location alone makes this the ideal vacation spot, but this comfortable house really makes you feel like you are staying in your home away from home. I guarantee when your vacation is over you will not want to leave!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I have stayed in this house for periods of 4 to 6 wks. in 2009 and 2011. I am planning to go back in 2012 for 6 wks.The pictures of the house seen on this site speak for themselves. This is a clean, modern and fully equipped house with a system of windows that do an excellent job of bringing in the sea breeze and taking out the heat--an asset in the tropics, but you may also cool down in the air conditioned rooms. The house is designed for comfort, privacy and security. I felt very secure sleeping at night with the floor to ceiling sliding glass doors on the deck fully open - allowing the sea breeze in and the sound of the waves to carry me to dreamland. Apart from all these conveniences that the house offers - it is situated - in my opinion - at the perfect spot...between peace & quiet and lots of action...all facing the magnificent Pacific Ocean. On the farm itself, I was kept busy exploring the countless species of flowers, trees, birds, small mammals, lizards and the ever so amusing monkeys that pass by the house on tree tops every morning. If you love stargazing - there is a plateau on the farm overlooking the ocean where the sky is fully exposed. On a clear night, you can actually count the stars in the Pleiades. If you love swimming, there is a clean, sweet water shallow lagoon formed by the river that flows beside the house before it empties into the ocean - a graet place if you have small children. Or a 5 min. walk down the beach to an area of the ocean protected from turbulent waves by volcanic rock formations - leaving a huge area of calm, warm safe swimming waters suitable for young and old. This house is close to water falls, a national park, canopy tours etc. and the very colorful village of Montezuma - where at night - if action is what you are looking for - you will find it at Chico's bar...deffinately an experience filled with colorful young people and heavy duty, loud rock music right on the beach. I have never regretted spending my well-deserved holidays at this house.Owner response: Thank you, Mary and see you down here soon!

When we found this place, we thought wow its close to the beach a river and the town, but when we arrived we where all that much more impressed. It was home! so comfortable and the safety it provided gave real easy of mind. Knowing that our car and valuables where secured gave us the ability to be more adventurous then we had dared to be before. The fact that this place let you fell like you where living in the jungle with out being invaded on by the jungle was just great. All the modern amenities like the microwave, blender, internet, ect... take away a lot of the hassle of travel. We had such a great time, that we are constantly dreaming of our next get away to Playa Cedros.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The reasons I loved staying here are many, not only are you with in walking distance of the beach, but also of a very nice river. I really enjoyed staying because I was able to have the privacy I craved with out being so removed from civilization. The furnishings where beautiful and the place felt like home, it was very easy to make yourself conferrable and relax. It was easy to stay in touch with family and friends as well as check on work things with the Internet connection in the home, it was so nice not to have to go in to town and buy an expensive internet card and fell like the world was looking over your shoulder the hole time. We truly enjoyed our stay and are constantly retelling of our time in Costa Rica in this house. We have recommended it to all our friends and would now like to recommend it to you.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
