We have restored La Maison Verte to make it warm, lively, and colourful; a true home in the Heart of a French Village.

La Maison Verte was built about 400 years ago and sits on the medieval walls of the village of Caunes-Minervois. This special stone, village home has wonderful views across vineyards towards the Pyrennes Mountains. Inside, three sunny double bedrooms all face Southwards. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and one has two single beds accommodating six guests in comfort. Good comfortable beds, crisp cotton linen and towels are provided. The house has two bathrooms; one en-suite.

Downstairs there are two living rooms filled with natural light which connect to the well equipped kitchen. The rooms are lime-washed in Provencal pastels decorated with finds from local antique markets and filled with books, music and pictures. Outside is a wisteria-covered terrace which leads down to a walled and private garden shaded by a loquat tree and filled with the scent of lavender. There is a lovely corner for informal dining al fresco.

The village of Caunes-Minervois is just 20 minutes from the spectacular fortified town of Carcassonne with its fairy-tale castle, one of the most visited sites in France. Carcassonne is an official UNESCO World Heritage site, and so is the lovely languid Canal du Midi which links the Atlantic to the Mediterranean. It is ideal for biking, hiking, or barging.

Caunes-Minervois is about one hour from the Mediterranean Sea and lies at the foot of the Montagne Noir with its lakes, castles, and forest. Across these mountains is Albi, another impressive Mediaeval city which was also the home of Toulouse Lautrec and houses a museum in his memory. The country round about is rich with wine farms and innumerable opportunities to taste and buy local wine. The climate is Mediterranean with hot, dry summers and mild crisp winters.
