The kitchen has all new appliances (incl. dishwasher), and comes complete with dishes, glass ware, silverware, pots, pans, plastic containers, serving dishes, coffee maker, coffee, sugar, tea, and basic assorted spices for our guests who enjoy cooking in. There are also restaurants and unique Adirondack shops within a two minute walk. The home is in the 'High Peaks' region of the Adirondack Park, known for its natural beauty. Nearby activities include: Fly fishing in the Ausable River (one of the top 20 trout fishing rivers in the country); boating, kayaking, canoeing or paddle boarding on numerous nearby lakes; small and big game hunting during season; hiking and mountain climbing; river tubing and river rafting; road and mountain biking; and horseback riding. There is a selection of mountaineering shops and guide services in the area to provide you with any equipment you need to purchase or lease. The Olympic Village of Lake Placid is a short 12 - 15 minute drive, and offers a variety of Olympic Venues, a selection of sporting events, a plethora of shops, antiquing, miniature golf at Pirates Cove Adventure Golf, movies, bowling, pubs and clubs, marinas, and restaurants ranging from fast food to gourmet. For those of you who are equine fans, the Lake Placid Horse Show and the I Love NY Horse Show is a quick 10 minute drive from the 'Castle House'. You really can't find a nicer home in a better location! Finally, the home owners live locally, so we are just a call away should you need advice or assistance. Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: Adirondack born and breed, although lived throughout US until moving back here in 2001....worked as a Human Resources Executive for Prudential and then AIG Global Investment Group before moving back to the Adirondacks. My husband and I adopted an 11 year old girl from Russia about 8 years ago...she is the center of my world. I love my family, my dog and horse, friends and family. I enjoy meeting new people and hope to make many friends through renting out the Castle House.
Why the Owner Chose Keene: It is newly renovated historic landmark that we saved from destruction. We literally touched every wire, pipe, fixture, piece of wood in the home while renovating it and bringing it back to life! It is a VERY unique, cozy, and 'artistic' home that is very well loved and cared for. We enjoy sharing this treasure with other folks!
The Unique Benefits at this House: This home is for individuals and families that appreciate history, art, and the soul of older homes. It is indeed unique and beautifully restored, but retains its historic charm. Please note that this home has no air conditioning, but does not need it due to the cool Adirondack nights and the perfectly engineered air flow through the windows. Windows are original and as such, must be carefully opened and braced open. Take care with young children.
