This Hawthorne house was great for us after two days of driving. The location is fantastic with plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. Parking was easy to find within a block of the house, usually right out front. Plenty of great coffee shops within a short drive or walk. The house itself was clean and well enough equipped for everything we needed except for a fifth chair around the dining table. We had to use the Ikea step stool which is in the photos as a bedside table. The house is creaky but that is part of it's charm. Our one complaint was one which we had read on previous reviews. On the first night of the four we stayed there (and really only on the first night), the upstairs renters came home at 3:30am and proceeded to walk heavily around their suite for about 45mins. With their shoes on the creaky floors, it was very loud and woke our whole family. That said, it only happened on the Saturday night and the rest of the nights were peaceful. All in all, it was a great place to stay and I would recommend it.

We had a great five-day stay at the Historic Hawthorne apartment. It is an older building with lots of charm and spacious rooms. While I read the reviews citing noise from upstairs tenants and older bathroom fixtures, I wasn't concerned about issues that are clearly normal for a building of its age. We heard the people upstairs but weren't disturbed by it. We live in a historic home and enjoyed the large rooms, wood floors, high ceilings, and pocket doors. My family of five felt very comfortable and enjoyed the neighborhood. We cooked in the kitchen, which was reasonably stocked and took public transportation, which was easily accessible to the Pearl District and Nob Hill for other dinners. We also took the bus to Belmont Station and had delicious craft beers. There are numerous places to eat within walking distance and the owner was responsive before our stay and during our stay when we had simple questions. The photos were accurate and the property was very clear. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.

We spent the weekend in Portland for the Blazers home opener. Setting things up with Thomas was very easy and the trip and stay in his beautiful place went without a hitch. There was more than enough room for 4 people to sleep and not be in each others way. There are lots of local bars, restaurants and food trucks just a block away on Hawthorne. It's a pleasant walk up to Burnside; we even walked to the Rose Garden the night of the game. Also, Holocene is very close so you can go dancing at the end of the night! Highly recommended.

Took an awesome 4 day weekend trip to PDX to see Gov' Mule with some friends, this place was within walking distance to all the cool places in the Hawthorne area and a very short drive to downtown!

Pros: location was great, convenient to restaurants, downtown, museum, supermarkets. Plenty of space for my family. Had a clothes washer and wireless internet. Owner was professional. Street parking was easy to find. Clean and well maintained, although there were some flies. Cons: on the older side. Bathroom sink had little counter space. Could hear the tenants from upstairs walking. Could not do a late check out. Had to buy own shampoo. TV had limited channels (e.g. no ESPN).

Owner response: We do our best to accommodate requests for early check in or late checkout, however it is not always possible. My records actually do not show you requesting a late checkout, you did however ask to check in early...which I obliged. Yes, this building is on the older side, built in 1900. The sink is original as well as the claw foot tub.

Hi , We stayed here for 4 nights with my mum and dad from Australia & myself and wife, the location is great, easy access to the city and places to eat, drink and be social. the only downside we had was the noise from above old house great hardwood floors in our place and we guess above so it was noisy from upstairs at any hour. Overall though this is minor and we all would stay there again.

Great apartment! Spacious, comfortable, very good location. Very well equipped with everything you would need. The owner was very easy-going and nice to deal with. The owner is not onsite so it felt private. Perfect for 4, would be less comfortable for 6 as the 3rd bed is an air mattress. I would definitely stay here again. We had a fantastic time in Portland!

My family enjoyed staying here. The neighborhood offered lots of great restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Within easy distance of mass transportation so we could get anywhere. We were close to OMSI, which is what we went to Portland to experience. Very nice.

We stayed three weeks in this condo in March/April 2012. We were there with our 2 year old and our 11 month old. The location was perfect, close to child friendly cafes, nice parks and supermarkets. The owner was very easy to deal with and responsive to comments we made during our stay. The main challenge we had staying there was that it is an old building. We loved the charm that came with this but with a little one still crawling, it just wasn’t ‘’polished’’ enough. The hard wood floor was damaged in some places and our little guy would scratch his knees. The electric baseboards were old and not necessarily that safe for curious little ones, etc. We could also really hear people walking on the upper floor and using the washing machine. Again, for adults, no big deal but for little ones used to be in a very quiet environment it was slightly disturbing. We still all enjoyed our stay very much but I would not recommend the condo for families with children this young.
