The home is situated high atop the hillside (next door to the 'House above the clouds') of a gated ten acre property with stunning panoramic views of the sprawling countryside spanning all the way west to the dark blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Local amenities including a grocery store, salon, yoga studio, restaurants and wine bar are just 3 minutes away in the village of San Elijo. In addition, the world famous sandy beaches of Southern California are just 15-20 minutes away from this local gem!

Located in the Elfin Forest region north of the Rancho Santa Fe community, the Elfin Log Home features 3 decks totaling 1,800 sq. feet, including a large wrap-around deck for your enjoyment. Bask in the natural beauty of Elfin Forest; accentuated by nearby mountains, clear blue skies, and the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean calling to you. You will truly get an overwhelming sense of the altitude and natural splendor that surrounds you. Many have actually remarked that the house feels like it is on top of the world or above the clouds! The Elfin Forest area includes some of the largest remaining chaparral countryside in Southern California. If you’ve never been to beautiful North County San Diego, now is the time. If you have been here before, then you know it is an experience that should not be missed and repeated often.
The inviting accommodations offer 3,600 square feet of living space. The house sleeps 8-10 people among 2 beautiful private rooms, a separate alcove and an open loft space. Two High-Definition televisions with DVD are strategically placed within the home and there is a card table and an assortment of games for your “game night” enjoyment. You will also find two seating areas with plush couches, a cozy day bed in the alcove, as well as a private sitting area and private balcony in the upstairs master bedroom. Top quality linens and towels are provided for your enjoyment.
The Elfin Log Home is a short 15-25 minute drive to the legendary Del Mar Race Track, the alluring beaches of the Pacific Ocean, a variety of gourmet restaurants, some of the country’s finest craft breweries like Stone, Port Brewing, family friendly Legoland and exciting San Diego Zoo Safari Park. This is one of the most charming, peaceful and private places we have ever stayed. The views are spectacular and the ambiance is unparallelled to anything we've experienced. The place was spotless clean and everything you could ever want was there. Unfortunately we had to leave and wished we could have stayed several weeks! As you're nearing the home, signs of city life and stress give way to green, rolling hills and solitude. My wife and I found it hard to believe we were within 15 minutes of a major freeway and civilization in general. Heading up the long, tree-lined driveway, we finally caught a glimpse of the cabin and were quite relieved it looked as nice as it did in the photos on the VRBO website. Once inside, we could feel the luxury of an upscale home married with the classic log cabin feel. Not only was it beautiful, warm and in immaculate condition, but the owner had actually placed waters and sodas in the fridge for our taking! Our stay was nothing short of amazing and reminded us of our many trips to Napa Valley and Sonoma due to the beautiful rolling hills and one-lane road that guides you in and out of the area. It was great to be so close to the tourist sites of San Diego, yet be far enough away to feel like we were in a completely different state. While there, do yourself a favor and visit the nearby town of San Elijo, which literally took five minutes to get to. Our favorite spot was the Relm Wine Bar. We happen to be wine lovers, and this great little spot took second place behind sitting outside the home's wraparound deck enjoying the incredible view (even a sneak peek of the ocean) with a glass of fine red wine. Throughout our stay this served as a great home base during all our running around to visit Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Del Mar, etc, although once you arrive you may not want to go anywhere, with the exception of restaurants and grocery store. In closing, let me just say my wife and I have had the fortunate opportunity to travel to many destinations across the country, and we both agree this property and location is in the top 5. From the amazing, tranquil beauty of the home itself, to the easy going, hospitable owners, our experience is one we will never forget!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband and I travel several times a year and are always happy to find rentals that actually live up to their photos online. We stayed in this cabin and were very pleased with everything from the cleanliness to the gorgeous views. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My family and I stayed here for a week earlier this year and we had such a great time that we are already planning next year's trip! The pictures do not do this lodge justice. Everything about it is just absolutely stunning! The kitchen is so nice with brand new appliances and beautiful granite countertops. My husband loved the personal gym because he could maintain his workout routine even on vacation! But best of all, we loved watching the beautiful sunsets over the mountains and ocean from the deck.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

About the owner: I’m a private business owner. But really, I consider myself a family man. My family and I have been connected to the Elfin Forest area for a few years now, and I must say, every day is breathtaking. The air is so fresh and crisp, and the sights are so beautiful. We think of this cozy lodge as an escape from the busy life, just a place to connect with nature and relax.
Why the Owner Chose Rancho Santa Fe:
We liked the idea of VRBO because we can personally manage all of the planning and renting, and we get to meet the renters in person, which makes the experience more meaningful and special than if it were through a company. We just want to share our other home with others so they, too, can experience the magic of this place.

This home is conveniently located so that it’s secluded enough to have quiet and relaxing days with no city smog or traffic to bother you, but also it’s in an area that is quick and easy to get to restaurants, popular attractions, and of course, the beach.
Legoland, the San Diego Zoo / Safari Adventure Park, Sea World, the Pacfic Ocean beaches, Palomar Mountains, Balboa Park, Del Mar Race Track, Qualcomm Stadium, Downtown San Diego, The Gas Lamp District, 2 airports, Temecula wine tasting, world renowned craft breweries, live theater, and more are all within about a 30-minute drive from this vacation home.
