The Wild Winds is a nature lover’s paradise. We offer many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake and beach, just steps from your rustic cabin. Or spend time at our private pond (actually a small lake) nestled in the woods, where we have installed a dock for deep water swimming and canoeing, Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.

This summer we are renting Honeymoon Cabin (Saturday to Saturday), which has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8-9 people. It overlooks quiet Wequas Lake and includes 1 bath, washer and dryer, full kitchen and satellite television.

In June, the basic rate is $600/wk. In July and August the basic rate is $725/wk. There is a $60 cleaning fee, and well-behaved dogs are permitted ($50 for one, $75 for two).

We are also renting 'Junior' Cabin this summer (Homeaway #368264)

My self and a few co-workers stayed here very comfortable beds nice and quite Rokko was very nice our dog Bobby just loved it there he could run around with out any traffic Nice rustic clean cabins If I ever work in the area again we will stay there being winter we did not get to enjoy the lake or the trails but it sure was nice and peaceful.

                    Recommended for: Pet owners.

Owner response: Wonderful renters with a delightful pet who are welcome back any time! Of course, dogs must always be well-behaved and under the owner's control (being respectful of other guests). With 60 acres of trails, dogs (and their humans) get plenty of opportunity for adventure and exercise.

Our week at Wild Winds was wonderful! Paths through the woods led to pine surrounded ponds where benches provided peaceful seating for listening to wildlife. Our adult kids enjoyed swimming and canoeing on the private ponds. The beach area at the lake had a lot of sand for playing but is not a place to swim, however, it was a serene place for morning coffee and afternoon reading and sunning. We caught many little catfish from the shore; the lake is small enough to canoe around in a half hour and is outlined by beautiful pines and a few cottages. The sunsets were beautiful from the shore. The cottage is a rustic log home with many added on rooms -- it had everything we needed for our stay; comfortable beds, powerful shower pressure, washer/dryer, gas grill. We played games and cards in the evening, took day trips, napped often -- it was so quiet. The cottage is nestled in the woods (so expect some spiders) and is shaded all day. The breeze flows through all day and night. No need for air conditioning! There are other cottages on the property but we hardly saw anyone. The host, Rokko, showed us around when we arrived and then left us to our vacation. The property is located on a quiet dirt road about a mile away from a main road and we saw many snowmobile or cross-country trails that would be accessible for a winter stay. Gaylord is a few miles away and provides many restaurants and shopping opportunities. Otsego State Park had a beautiful beach for swimming and is close by. We were looking for a quiet place to get away from stressful jobs and busy city life. Wild Winds turned out to be that place for us -- we would stay there again.

we met our kids/grandkids here and everyone loved the rustic cabin and peace and quiet. The woods is next to cabin which made our well behaved dog very happy as she could walk and walk and walk! Kids enjoyed paddleboats/canoes/row boat. Also swimming in private pond with a dock. Bedrooms very comfortable, cabin clean. Our host, Rokko, very friendly and showed us the trails and swimming areas. He was onsite, but not intrusive. Bond fire by lake was a hit with kids, and our private front yard between cabin and lake was great for visiting. The gazebo great spot to read and enjoy coffee or a cocktail. If you want peace and quiet(no noisy boats/jetskis here), highly recommended. Close to Otsego Lake State Park which has very nice beach and picnic areas.

The listing was inaccurate for the swimming. You could not swim at the small beach or the pond. It was standing water, with lily pads all over, leeches, and the pond stunk really bad. The cabin was clean on the surface but needs some deep cleaning. When you went to open windows there were cobwebs and bugs. There are 3 other homes/cabins right there that I didn't realize. I thought it was going to be more private. The owner left us alone though, which was nice and gave us a nice tour. The pathway to the pond was nice to walk the dogs on. It was in a good location, not far from town or from the state park.

Owner response: The swimming is great this summer at the Ponds! The floating dock and swim ladder we installed are being used every day at the large pond, which is free of lily pads, and provides refreshing deep water swimming in a stunning location nestled in the woods. Lake Wequas, on the other hand, though quite beautiful (especially at sunset!), is a shallow lake, not ideal for adult swimming. It is enjoyed by families with small children who play in the shallow water and build sand castles, and in the evenings by folks who gather around the fire pit near the beach.

The vacation properties at Wild Winds are very nice places to stay. They are secluded and surrounded by lots of forest. Nice amenities in the cottages, everything that most people would need for an average stay. Only drawback is that the swimming and fishing is not the greatest in the world if that is your thing, but it's not mine so it didn't bother us at all. There are a few different bodies of water around the property, and some trails to walk also. Rokko is a very nice man and an accomodating host. Property is also very pet friendly. Overall I have no complaints and would definitely stay there again. Word of warning to Verizon customers, there is absolutely no service here, so plan accordingly.

Owner response: AT&T works great out here in the woods, as does Nextel, but our Sprint and Verizon guests need to drive a short way to get a strong signal. Of course, in the town of Gaylord, just a few miles away, all cell phone service is strong, and there are several sites that offer fast, free internet. We offer great deep water swimming in our private pond. Wequas Lake is best for boating, and for young children swimming and playing in the shallow water and on the beach. Folks have caught plenty of fish in Wequas this year--but none big enough to eat! Check back to see if they've grown any by next year!

Our stay at Wild Winds was exactly what we were looking for. The modest log cabin set back in the woods was plenty of room for our group of six adults and family dog. The owner greeted us with a tour of the cabin and surrounding grounds and was accomodating throughout our stay. The cozy cabin was delightful, clean, and bug free. The kitchen was well stocked with basic cooking appliances and equipment, and there were boardgames, hundreds of books, and even a large color tv with cable for indoor entertainment. The washer and dryer were a real plus. We enjoyed the canoe and paddle boats on quiet little Lake Wequas only a short walk from our cabin door. Our days were filled with serene walks in the woods and bike rides on back roads . It was only a short drive to Gaylord where you could find lots of stores, gift shops, and eateries. We made a day trip bicycling from Gaylord to Mackinac on the rails to trails path (61miles) which is also used by runners, hikers, and snowmobilers in the winter. We enjoyed a visit to Hartwick Pines old growth forest only 30 minutes away. Alpinfest in Gaylord was a pleasant surprise. The only drawback was the lack of celluar phone service at the cabin, but a short drive down the road was all it took to receive service. We have lots of fond memories of our stay at Wild Winds and would recommend a visit to friends and relatives. We hope to return next summer.

If you want the feeling of being in the north woods this is the cabin for you. Clean and modestly furnished, we had an absolute wonderful time getting reconnected. We had our 3 adult children with us. The weather was very rainy and cold so we couldn't enjoy the lake or pond or the lovely woods, but wish we could have. The lake is shallow and we wanted to fish but the weather was not cooperating. Probably only small fish there. Waking up to bird songs and chattering squirrels was great. The kitchen is quite adequate and the landlord very accomidating. Gas grill was a plus. We cooked out almost every night. Only downside was it was a Verizon dead zone..which forced my children to put away their electronics and talk to each other...so maybe not a downside. Gaylord, a short drive, did have cell service. A short drive to stores and entertainment. Very quiet and serene...loved it!
