Gaylord house description

The Wild Winds is a nature lover’s paradise. We offer many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake and beach, just steps from your rustic cabin. Or spend time at our private pond (actually a small lake) nestled in the woods, where we have installed a dock for deep water swimming and canoeing, Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.

This summer we are renting Honeymoon Cabin (Saturday to Saturday), which has 4 bedrooms and sleeps 8-9 people. It overlooks quiet Wequas Lake and includes 1 bath, washer and dryer, full kitchen and satellite television.

In June, the basic rate is $600/wk. In July and August the basic rate is $725/wk, and for these two months we rent from Saturday to Saturday. There is a $60 cleaning fee, and well-behaved dogs are permitted ($50 for one, $75 for two).

We are also renting 'Junior' Cabin this summer (Homeaway #368264)

I just recently rented this cabin for 4 days. It was the best vacation we have been on in awhile. It was very relaxing and fun. We had friends and family join us and put up a few tents. We were able to bring our dog, which she absolutely loved being outside all the time. The fishing was great, the kids would cast out and had a fish with in seconds. We told ghost stories done by the fire on the beach at night, then played hide and seek in the woods after in the dark:) It was the best. We had brought up our quads and the trails were amazing. The whole stay was just great and we really look forward to staying again next summer. The only thing I didn't realize was that there were other cabins right near us, but no one was there during our stay, so it was private, just what we wanted!!

Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with teenagers.

Owner response: So glad you had such a great time, and we look forward to your visit next summer! We rent out two vacation log homes at the Wild Winds: Honeymoon and Junior (homeaway.com #298533 and #368462). We have sixty acres of beautiful woods, beachfront on Wequas Lake, a private chain of ponds with a swimming area tucked in the woods, and we are adjacent to over a hundred acres of state forest filled with trails, so there is always room for everybody. It is a nature lover's paradise.

This was our first time visiting Michigan and we chose to stay in a cabin so that we could get that feeling of camping with comfort and Wild Winds Honeymoon Cottage filled the bill. With access to all the amenities of this property i.e.canoes, rowboats, paddle boats, hiking trails, barbecues, fire pit, a private beach, a real swimming hole and the worlds best drinking water there is not much not to rave about! We spent a lovely week enjoying it all. You can't beat the location with easy access to all surrounding tourist areas. The cabin is supplied with everything you need for a great getaway and it is dog friendly! We look forward to our next stay at Wild Winds. Thanks Rokko! Cindy&Rob Chicago

The Wild Winds is a beautiful place to stay that is peaceful and quiet. It is centrally located in northern Michigan, so many sight seeing destinations are accessible at reasonable distances. The property is remote enough to feel like you've escaped the fast-paced world around you, but still close to Gaylord so that you have access to all sorts of stores, restaurants and anything else you may need. The cabin was comfortable and accommodating. Our kids had a great time enjoying the lake and exploring the wooded areas. We wished that we had more time to spend there. We will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits! Rokko was a great host and we thank him for sharing his corner of paradise. Brian & Laura J. Southeast, Texas

This cabin was an awesome find. We were looking for an "out of the way" but not too out of the way place to vacation. This property hits each note precisely. You have the feeling of the rustic cabin in an incredible pine forest. We didn't have cell service on the property for one second (which is exactly what we were looking for). Yet with this property essentially being at the intersection of I-75 and M-32 you have access to all of the great northern Michigan adventures as easy to reach day trips. It also is just a quick drive in to Gaylord which has everything you could want as far as groceries and supplies. The cabin is well set up. Plenty of space to move around in and very comfortable. It is stocked with every plate, glass, small appliance, and utensil you might need. And the beds are very comfortable. All of this wrapped in an incredible 60 acre forested property you can explore. Living in the suburbs you almost forget what real quiet actually sounds like. This place will give you a quick reminder. Wonderful trails, a couple of lakes to canoe in, and the canoes available to do it. Lot's of small animals and birds. And this was definitely a dog paradise. Our dog, along with us, loved every moment's adventure. If you are looking for a a great getaway adventure to a place that will really give you the opportunity to unwind and explore the variety that is northern Michigan, this is it. We would definitely return here.

Owner response: We enjoy sharing the beauty and serenity of The Wild Winds with folks who are looking for a rustic yet comfortable retreat amidst the wonders of nature. And well-behaved dogs are always welcome, too! By the way, some cell phone service (e.g. AT&T) works just fine up here, but most people don't mind a few days away from civilization (and Gaylord, with its shops, restaurants and golf courses, is only a few miles away.)

The cabin was very attractive for our family. This was our second stay and we enjoyed it even more than the first! The cabin is breathtaking and very spacious. The beds are very comfortable which was very important to our family and there is plenty of drawer and closet space. It has all the amenities you could need, washer and dryer, toaster, microwave, it even has things such as a pizza cutter and wine glasses! The cabin is surrounded by beautiful pine trees, a few large ponds and gorgeous lake views. By the lake and ponds there are docks, several small paddle boats and canoes. It is very private and peaceful! We had bonfires every night and didn't have to buy any wood, it was all provided for us by Rokko. The wildlife is astonishing! We caught fish, frogs, a turtle and a snake. There are beavers at the ponds and we did sight an eagle in the woods along with chipmunks. If you love and respect nature, this is the place for you!

The cabin was simply amazing. Our family enjoyed fishing, boating, hiking, Watching the amazing sunsets, Lighting campfires, Amazing eagles that we seen a few ponds that were around the cabin. The cabin was so clean and relaxing. The king size beds and also the queen-size beds where pillow top and made for a peaceful night sleep. We were able to fish, trail walk, see a old big turtle, catch a lot of catfish even though they were baby size it still made a great activity.

Owner response: Wonderful renters with a delightful pet who are welcome back any time! Of course, dogs must always be well-behaved and under the owner's control (being respectful of other guests). With 60 acres of trails, dogs (and their humans) get plenty of opportunity for adventure and exercise.

Our week at Wild Winds was wonderful! Paths through the woods led to pine surrounded ponds where benches provided peaceful seating for listening to wildlife. Our adult kids enjoyed swimming and canoeing on the private ponds. The beach area at the lake had a lot of sand for playing but is not a place to swim, however, it was a serene place for morning coffee and afternoon reading and sunning. We caught many little catfish from the shore; the lake is small enough to canoe around in a half hour and is outlined by beautiful pines and a few cottages. The sunsets were beautiful from the shore. The cottage is a rustic log home with many added on rooms -- it had everything we needed for our stay; comfortable beds, powerful shower pressure, washer/dryer, gas grill. We played games and cards in the evening, took day trips, napped often -- it was so quiet. The cottage is nestled in the woods (so expect some spiders) and is shaded all day. The breeze flows through all day and night. No need for air conditioning! There are other cottages on the property but we hardly saw anyone. The host, Rokko, showed us around when we arrived and then left us to our vacation. The property is located on a quiet dirt road about a mile away from a main road and we saw many snowmobile or cross-country trails that would be accessible for a winter stay. Gaylord is a few miles away and provides many restaurants and shopping opportunities. Otsego State Park had a beautiful beach for swimming and is close by. We were looking for a quiet place to get away from stressful jobs and busy city life. Wild Winds turned out to be that place for us -- we would stay there again.

we met our kids/grandkids here and everyone loved the rustic cabin and peace and quiet. The woods is next to cabin which made our well behaved dog very happy as she could walk and walk and walk! Kids enjoyed paddleboats/canoes/row boat. Also swimming in private pond with a dock. Bedrooms very comfortable, cabin clean. Our host, Rokko, very friendly and showed us the trails and swimming areas. He was onsite, but not intrusive. Bond fire by lake was a hit with kids, and our private front yard between cabin and lake was great for visiting. The gazebo great spot to read and enjoy coffee or a cocktail. If you want peace and quiet(no noisy boats/jetskis here), highly recommended. Close to Otsego Lake State Park which has very nice beach and picnic areas.

Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers, sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

The listing was inaccurate for the swimming. You could not swim at the small beach or the pond. It was standing water, with lily pads all over, leeches, and the pond stunk really bad. The cabin was clean on the surface but needs some deep cleaning. When you went to open windows there were cobwebs and bugs. There are 3 other homes/cabins right there that I didn't realize. I thought it was going to be more private. The owner left us alone though, which was nice and gave us a nice tour. The pathway to the pond was nice to walk the dogs on. It was in a good location, not far from town or from the state park.

Owner response: The swimming is great this summer at the Ponds! The floating dock and swim ladder we installed are being used every day at the large pond, which is free of lily pads, and provides refreshing deep water swimming in a stunning location nestled in the woods. Lake Wequas, on the other hand, though quite beautiful (especially at sunset!), is a shallow lake, not ideal for adult swimming. It is enjoyed by families with small children who play in the shallow water and build sand castles, and in the evenings by folks who gather around the fire pit near the beach.
