Alexandria cabin description
"I especially enjoyed your cabin! Wow! It belongs in the pages of Cabin Life magazine." We have heard these words numerous times over the years. We rent out our home away from home SUNDAY NIGHT THRU FRIDAY NOON. I am sure you will love this year-round lake home nestled between the two quaint towns of Glenwood and Starbuck, located just 20 miles south of Alexandria, and just two hours northeast of downtown Minneapolis. Lake Minnewaska is Minnesota's 13th largest lake, and one of the top fishing and recreation lakes in the Alexandria area. There is plenty of room to boat, fish, swim, water ski or jet ski. Fishing right off the end of the dock will yield many sunnies, bass and northerns, almost guaranteed! The swimming is weed free with a nice sandy bottom.
Watch the beautiful sun set views from the bench on the end of the dock, or the moon rise with a glass of wine in the wicker chairs on the balcony overlooking the wetlands across the road, or the seemingly endless bright stars above as you sit in the Adirondack chairs around the bonfire. It just doesn't get any better than this.
Wild life is abundant here. Watch the loon pair off the end of the dock with your morning coffee, the pelicans flying by, the egret that lands on the beach and sits a spell, the eagles nest close by, the geese parents standing guard on the lot next door while their babies eat, the raccoon mother up safely in the tree next to the cabin with her babies, listen to the coyote in the hills across the wetlands howl as you fall asleep, or spot the wild turkeys having lunch as you drive into town. The beauty of nature surrounds you on your stay here.
The cabin has been in the family for over 30 years but undertook a major renovation in 2003. The cabin has three bedrooms (one on the main floor plus a pull-out futon in the living room, and two bedrooms upstairs), one main floor bath, an eating area overlooking the lake, a living room, a second floor living area, and a fully furnished kitchen, complete with blender for those summer cocktails that taste so nice on a hot day. We wanted to capture the feeling of a quaint, cozy cabin that had been around for a very long time so it has been decorated with knotty pine walls, hickory cabinets, and pictures and accessories that evoke an Up North, lived-in feel, a place where great memories are waiting to be made for your vacation. Just bring food, bait and clothes!
The Alexandria/Glenwood area boasts many unique gift and antique shops (I still don't think I've discovered them all), and you will have no trouble finding some great restaurants to choose from. There are 12 golf courses in the area, with the most beautiful a mere one mile from the cabin door. Use the two bikes in the shed for a ride up and down the road - or simply walk; it's a nice, quiet, peaceful area. A canoe and kayak are also available for use. Or sign up for one of the cruises around the lake on the two big excursion boats - one even has a dinner cruise. A Bed and Breakfast option is available for one day of your stay, where we provide you with a scrumptious, filling breakfast, followed by an afternoon or evening cruise around the lake in our pontoon, with or without fishing. In the winter, there are snowmobile trails, skiing at nearby Mt. Andes, and lots of areas to go snowshoeing or cross country skiing, or join the large ice fishing village that sets up on the lake!
Please note that this is a NO PETS and NO SMOKING home. We do expect that responsible adults/families rent this home. We have worked very hard to make our lake home inviting and beautiful and have decided to share our home with others who will respect and enjoy the property as well.

My sister, a friend & I have stayed at this cabin.....and enjoyed it so much that it's become an annual event. It has everything that we want as far as a get-away. It's very clean & tastefully decorated...yet comfortable & relaxing. From our morning strolls along the lake shore to the beautiful evening sunsets and everything in -between, you can't help but have a wonderful time here. We can choose to be very acitve---fishing, swimming, sunbathing, taking a pontoon ride, etc......or......we can just sit around the bonfire with a cool summer drink & talk. This cabin definitely has it all.....can't wait to get back there!

Annual Girlfriends getaway
Annual Girlfriends getaway
Perfect venue for a Highschool Girlfriends gathering. The photos of the cabin are great, but the minute you step in the door, you are transported to a warm and fuzzy nostalgic time when drinking lemonaide on the front porch and taking time to read a good book was part of life. Whether you are watching the sunset or sitting around the campfire, the atmosphere is relaxing and memorable. The cabin was extremely clean and easy to find. A few miles away there are plenty of places to eat out and a fun variety of shops. As "old friends" we chose to hang out and reminisce. The hours flew by and we hated to leave, but knowing we had found a place to reunite and relax, meant that it wasn't so hard to say goodbye. We could have chosen one of our own homes to stay at, but this was the perfect "no one has to be hostess" place. What a treat! I would recommend the cabin to anyone as a relaxing, no hassle vacation spot in any season!

About the owner: My husband and I have owned this property for over 30 years. We have two kids who grew up loving the cabin life and now come up here with their spouses. My husband is a recently retired UPS driver who now enjoys carving decoys as his second career. He gets his inspiration from the wild life up at the cabin; you will see some of his carvings up at the cabin - a loon here, a rainbow trout there. I am an office manager at a chiropractic office and an avid reader who has carved out several perfect spots to read, both inside and out, my latest favorite murder mystery.
Why the Owner Chose Alexandria:
Great area and great lake. The area has a small town feel with never a lack of things to do...or nothing at all. This is a cabin that can be enjoyed throughout the year: fishing off the dock in the summer; hunting, fishing or walking in the crisp fall area; or cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the rollings hills in the area, or ice fishing in the village that sets up right outside the door. The wildlife abound with loons, pelicans, geese, egrets, eagles, and wild turkeys...and it's all right out our door.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
As soon as you begin your descent down the hill to the lake, you feel your blood pressure dropping and the relaxation taking over your bodies. We have never tired of the fabulous views and just being at the lake in all these years. It is so peaceful and relaxing, we're practically in comas. The best sunsets are on this side of the lake, plus we have a wetland right across the road, which is absolutely beautiful at dusk and when the moon starts rising above it. We have been told we have the best spot on the whole lake, and we believe it.
