I have stayed here twice, in 2009 and fall 2011 - the second time with a friend. This is a wonderful, restful place - rooms are very clean and comfortable, each having a bathroom, small refrig, coffeepot, etc. and the rooms I stayed in had direct access to the back porch. Very quiet area and very secure. But most of all? The breakfasts are fantastic. Robert is a great host and shares lots of facts about the volcano and area. The people who were there when I was were so friendly and great conversationalists. I recommend this place highly. Thanks, Robert

Year Purchased: 1976
About the owner: ALoha! Welcome to t he Aloha Junction B&B and located on lands made famous by Madame Pele, the fiery goddess of volcanoes. Running the bed and breakfast has been a blast meeting visitors from around the world. My husband and I opened up our bed and breakfast over 10 years ago after the children grew up and moved away. Since I teach full time at a nearby public school, Robert is the head chef and door keeper ~ in charge of the daily operations of running the B&B. We both enjoy traveling ourselves and know what things make a difference to travelers.
Why the Owner Chose Volcano:
This historic house which is located along the 'Volcano Corridor' on the Big Island of Hawaii has an interesting background. We had just signed a rental agreement and moved into the house in October of 1975. The next month, the day after THanksgiving to be precise, a double-whammy of an earthquake rocked the island. Many houses were knocked off their foundations, some completely destroyed. For our house, the tall brick chimney fell through the roof into our living room and then through the floor. The owner was not interested in fixing it up and wanted to sell it. We were not in a position to buy the house, but with FEMA relief and selling our Volkswagen bus, were able to make a down payment. It has gone through many changes and renovations since having raised 4 boys there. After they left my husband and I started rebuilding the house with loving care and patience into what it is today.
The Unique Benefits at this Bed And Breakfast:
The ALoha Junction B&B is located close to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which makes it convenient as Hilo is 30 miles away and Kona over 100. We have four very large suites; all with private bathrooms , WIFI, and mini kitchenettes. Three of the rooms have decks that lead out to over an acre of beautiful landscaped yard. Here you will delight in seeing Volcano birds, trees and foliage. We are also very attentive to our guests but also allow them as much privacy as they need or want. Robert is available to greet and orient each guest when they arrive. He will also cook a fresh, hot breakfast every morning. If you have a preferences, just let him know! Guests can enjoy walking around the premises to check out the feral (cement) pig lying out in the yard, our 4 pet geese, or the cymbidium orchids sitting on the rock wall. My son calls this place 'compound' because it is so private; it is fenced and gated and also hidden behind the post office in the heart of Volcano Village. Our B&B is quiet and peaceful, yet conveniently located near restaurants, small shops and most importantlly the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Headquarters. In addition, there is WIFI running throughout the house, as well as free access to a computer and printer ~ so handy when getting those boarding passes ahead of time!
