The cabin is located along a paved two lane highway and is nine miles from the Continental Divide; it is available in summer and fall, but not winter or spring. A Non-live-in cook for home style healthful meals available, please inquire with Thomas (340-690-2440) for rates and sample menu. Concierge and off-road chauffeur services available at reasonable rates.

Big Game Hunters please scroll down for information regarding private rooms available in the fall for the first three rifle seasons. Archers and Muzzle-loaders please email or phone for 2013 (or later) inquiries. Our Hunter Special rates are 'all inclusive' and tenants are welcome to dine with the owners' family for breakfast, lunch and dinner, or may receive packed meals for the field.

The town of Pitkin may be accessed in all weather conditions via County Road 76, which is paved and maintained in both summer and winter. The cabin is completely winterized and recently renovated with new roof, siding, increased insulation, class A stove and chimney pipes, and new doors and windows. Currently the cabin is only available for summer and fall rental.

The cabin is nestled on a rise above Quartz Creek, which flows through about 200 feet of the property, within the town. The premises include over one-half acre of land with a few mature pine trees and plentiful willows along the stream. Wildflowers of many types may be observed on the property in the summer, and great views of colorful aspens and willows in the fall. We have ample off-street parking.

The interior features a large and comfortable living area with an enormous lichen-stone fireplace an nearby antique wood burning stove. Eight persons may be comfortably seated in cushioned overstuffed chairs or couch. A dining nook easily seats six or more at a round antique table near the modern kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with antique utensils and cookware, with modern appliances including an electric stove, microwave, coffee maker, etc. The centerpiece is a 30 x 30 inch hickory butcher block, upon which many a harvested elk have been processed.

The cabin hosts a comfortable full bathroom and ample mudroom for coats and boots. Meals may also be taken on either of the two large decks overlooking the stream. The sound of Quartz Creek decreases later in the summer, but may be heard even in the winter with the doors and windows closed. Enjoy being lulled into a deep sleep by the gentle sounds of the creek flowing from the nearby Continental Divide to the Pacific Ocean! The sound is similar to winds flowing through a stand of pine trees.

Please scroll down to read a brief review of the three newly renovated bedrooms.

For big game hunters, areas 55 and 551 are delineated by County Road 76 which leads to Pitkin from US Highway 50 and in summer and fall connects to Almont from majestic Cumberland Pass (11 miles from Pitkin).

Along side Quartz Creek, one mile walk to Gunnison National Forest & Alpine Tunnel National Historic District, & excellent hiking, fishing, hunting, backpacking, camping, photography, wildlife viewing etc opportunities. Wide variety of scenic four AND ATV vehicle trails in immediate vicinity. The Gunnison Regional Airport (GUC) offers rentals of standard and 4 WD vehicles; the area has grocery stores, a regional hospital & many gear, clothing and specialty stores and boutiques.

Watch the aspen bloom early in the summer or enjoy the magnificent color changes late in summer. Year Purchased: 1975

About the owner: Middle-aged professional conservationist couple, we explore the world seeking eco-tourism venues, and seek to share adventurous places with special people and families. The Quartz Creek Valley is one such special place, with few options to enjoy the area without being required to camp for the entire time.

                  Why the Owner Chose Gunnison:
Grew up exploring the Rocky Mountains and seek to spend more time there in the future. The family investment allows this while providing access to a limited number of others to enjoy this special area in comfort. The Cabin was built in 1975 and refurbished in 2009, visit www.thecabinatquartzcreek.com for more info and photos, or call Thomas and Sybille at 340-690-2440. Five generations have now enjoyed the cabin, and many continue the adventure on a regular basis.
