I was in town for family business, and needed a comfortable, convenient location. This is a charming apartment, very similar to those I rented 'way back when I was in school here - only this place is much nicer then those ever were. It's not the usual "vacation rental"- it's furnished like a real home, and it's obvious that Yancey and Lonnie care about their guests' comfort. Any questions I had were immediately answered, and though our schedules conflicted and we never actually saw each other, it was good to know they were available, if I needed them. If you're interested in partying, this is not the place for you - you'd do much better to stay in the French Quarter, where the action is. This is a quiet neighborhood, and though there are lots of restaurants and shops on nearby Magazine St, the vibe is family-oriented. Three good groceries and several pharmacies are located in the neighborhood, as well as "Little Fisherman" for the best boiled seafood - enjoy your crayfish on the apartment's little patio. There are numerous coffee shops and two very good ice cream shops close at hand, which made life a little sweeter. Though I was not often out at night, I would suggest you be careful - the streets in this part of town are dark, and the sidewalks can be treacherous! Not a bad idea to carry a mini-flashlight, especially if you are wearing heels... In a perfect world, the beautiful antique 4-poster bed would be a little closer to the ground - but that's just me, and I am "vertically challenged". There was a handy stool next to the bed, which made everything work out fine. The mattress was specially made to fit the bed, and was one of the most comfortable I have had the pleasure to sleep on - very nice sheets, too. I would definitely stay here again, and would especially recommend this apartment to those staying several weeks and the more mature traveller. It's a great location for exploring the city, and the neighborhood has lots to offer.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Lovely apartment was exactly as listed. Very convenient, 2 blocks from bus, 4 blocks from street car, parking was easy to find near the house (though the city could pave the streets to make it easier to place the car).there are restaurants (including Commanders Palace), bars, all types of shops and a small supermarket and drug store within a very short walk. The apartment was clean even though the house is very old and the kitchen was beautiful, loved the antique bed! I felt very comfortable there. The owners were extremely helpful not only was there a binder with all kind of information about NOLA on the coffee table but they personally were helpful. I have told everyone how much I enjoyed staying there. the only downside is that the sofa is white. When I ever get back to NOLA I hope this apartment is available.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+.
Owner response: Thank you Christine! We would love to have you back.... Hopefully next years Saint's season is better than this year. BTW the benefit of the sofa is that the cushion covers can all be washed and bleached!

Nothing better than staying in this apartment with this location. Me & a friend couldn't have been happier. Brunch..what a happening place at Atchafalaya. We stayed there for 5 hours on Sunday. Bars, places to eat, Starbucks, place to work out all within 3-5 blocks. Getting downtown is a few blocks to the street car and within minutes you're there. Yancy was very responsive to any questions and requests. Washer & dryer came in handy. I would definitely return and highly recommend!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

My wife & I came to New Orleans for Mardi Gras & stayed for an extra three weeks to experience the city & I must say we enjoyed every minute of it. A lot of the credit for that goes to this lovely apartment. It's full of period charm, from the furniture and decorations to the beautiful four poster bed. It's also comfortable & incredibly functional, from the well-equipped kitchen to the washer & dryer. In addition the location couldn't be better. the neighborhood is charming and we could walk to the grocery store and many great shops and restaurants. Anything else was very easy to access by bus or streetcar. Lonnie & Yancey were extremely hospitable and helpful in every way and really made us feel at home. Most of the big parades come right down St. Charles so we could easily walk up to see them which made things much easier. We ate at Bayona, Cochon, Mat & Naddies and Kyoto & also went to Domiciles & the Parkway Tavern for Po'boys. I'd recommend all of them - the food & service were both first rate. All in all we loved our time here, particularly the apartment, where we knew we could always retire to relax after a touristy day. We can hardly wait to come back. If you're looking for an authentic and truly enjoyable New Orleans experience, you can't do any better than here.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We were a party of three staying four nights. The location is unbeatable - we easily traveled around without a car. Staying here also gave us the chance to explore the Garden District, which has a lot to recommend it. The apartment was very spacious and clean and even the sofa bed was comfortable! Yancey is very easy to work with and she even provided lots of ideas for places to eat and sightsee - having the local perspective helped immensely. I would definitely return and highly recommend the apartment.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family stayed at this home recently and loved it. The house is pleasant and comfortable and the location is perfect. Walking distance to cemeteries, Magazine Street, tons of stores and restaurants, street cars. Best part of New Orleans. And, Yancey was helpful, responsive and very easy to work with. Highly recommended for anyone interested in staying in the Garden District!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children.

I stayed at this Garden District Gem. It worked well. Very private, well maintained, recently updated. Good street parking, well lit. There a nice size kitchen and den/lounge area to relax in. There's a large entryway if you have a lot of luggage, purchases or a bike or stroller. The bed is a big antique historic piece with new comfy sheets. The bathroom is quite clean and functions well. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
