Hale Ke Aloha... House of Love
Situated on 2 acres, this spacious 1 bedroom lovers cottage has recently been updated and sits on the top perch of a tropical fruit orchard. Walk out your front door and harvest the seasons sweetness including mango, lychee, banana, coconut, avocado, tangerine, mangosteen, sugar cane, star fruit, pineapple, and many more. Whether in the sunroom with books and music or the screened lanai, enjoy the comfort and peace of birdsong and ever present tradewinds. This private cottage is perfect for a get-away feel, yet still close enough to walk to the quaint unspoiled town of Hawi.
Come to be alone and take advantage of a slow pace of living, or bring the kids(or the kid in you!) and enjoy a variety of local adventures including zip lining, ATV rides, horseback riding, siteseeing, mountain and road bike tours, hiking, 'flumin da ditch' and many more! We welcome children, and can provide books, games etc.
Local living is just a short walk away from the quaint unspoiled historic town of Hawi. Feel the aloha in this welcoming North Kohala village. From homemade coconut lilikoi fudge and macadamia nut ice cream to an assortment of local farm grown produce, meats, and fish available at farmers markets...savor the flavor of the tropics. We also recommend the many delicious restaurants and cafes, often including live music... even on a Sunday morning while you sip your fine cafe, smoothie or tasty breakfast! Or browse the Hawaii inspired shops with everything from art and jewelry to shell inlaid toilet seat covers… something for everyone! Whether you want to relax and watch the sun set into the tropical trees, spend the day at the beach, or have an eco-adventure… there are many options to enjoy in this special preserved part of the island.
Just a 15-minute drive to the north end of the island. Park the car, take many breathtakingly beautiful photos, and then enjoy a 20-minute walk down to the Pololu Valley black sand beach (probably clicking photos at every turn!). A 25-minute drive south brings you to our favorite beaches on the island. Each one offering its unique qualities from reef snorkeling and diving to white sand sunbathing and surfing. You can stop 5 minutes sooner and sign up for many other activities including dolphin and whale watching, manta ray diving, scuba/snuba, dinner/sunset cruises, sport fishing, etc.
For yet a different climate head 20 minutes up the mountain road through 'paniolo' (Hawaiian cowboy) country to lookout at the Three Sisters: Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai, as they meet the ocean, and get a glimpse and visual of how our island was formed. Turn your head in the other direction to see their “brother”, Maui and the top of Haleakala Crater on a clear day.
Hawi is also not far from many day trip possibilities to other parts of the island, with an 1 hour drive to Kona, or 1 ½ hours to Hilo, or keep going another ½ hour further to be at Volcano village.
Having lived on the islands for 20 years we are happy to offer tour advice or answer any questions to maximize your visit to Hawaii. Our home is your home- come and enjoy the simple satisfying local living of the Big Island.

We stayed for 12 days at this cozy, well appointed, delightful cottage in the heart of Hawi town. My first and lasting impression was that the actual place was even better than the photos and reviews I had seen. Tastefully furnished and laid out with ample living space and a great kitchen, it also was extremely private and quiet with a back yard orchard and nice sunsets. We basically lived in the lanai when we were home and also took advantage of the lovely outdoor shower. We had some stormy weather but it was a mere 10 minute drive to the drier parts of Kohala with beach parks and good snorkeling. Waimea, over the stunning Kohala mountain road, the Polulu Valley and the south Kohala beaches were incredibly easy to get to by car, less than 40 minutes away. We were able to walk into Hawi to take advantage of great food, live music, the weekly farmers market, the irresistible Kohala Coffee Mill and the various shops, including a good grocery store. Kapa'au town has much of the same appeal, only 3 miles away. One of my favorite parts of the location was the walk away from town, down a quiet, dead end country road surrounded by pastures, farms and always the breeze and the ocean. I would return to Hale Ke Aloha in a heartbeat! Laurie Raymond Falmouth MA.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

What A Nice Spot! We live Hilo side of the island and have not explored much of the Hawi area before. Mostly we wanted to get a break from the wet-side of the island. Upon our arrival at Hale Ke Aloha, we were greeted by the very nice caretakers who welcomed us and showed us around. They live at the front part of the property which is very separate from the back part where the cottage is. We were surprised at the privacy level as we were only around a five minute walk to town. The cottage is quaint, simple and well stocked being a very good value considering the other options out there. The area of Hawi is very beautiful. We started each morning with a walk down to the awe inspiring Pololu Valley (15 min drive) and spent our afternoons strolling the beautiful golden beaches of Hapuna and Beach 69 (20 min drive). We highly recommend the Hawi area and Hale Ke Aloha. Simplicity, cozy, relaxing and great people. We will be back! Thanks again and Aloha, Marissa Clayton-Hilo HawaiiDid you find this review helpful? Due to my wife's 60. anniversary it should become an extraordinary vacation, and it became. For us coming out of the really cold winter in Germany, the location in Hawi was the best choice. Not as warm as on Kona coast, but wonderful green and absolutely warm enough. The house, situated in a very nice orchard, was cosy, the kitchen very well equipped and the bathroom seemed to be new. Very much space and a wonderful lanai for the daily nap. The position of Hawi on the north coast is advantageous; driving to the east, you are soon in a tropical environment, to the west, you are soon on a big sandy beach on the dry side of the island. Only a few minutes the "old coast guard road" down to the shoreline, you find the best place for whale-watching and regarding sunset or the isle of Maui. Anything more you could wish? What a pity that Hawai'i is so far from Europe. Mahalo, Heinz and Heidi Knauf GermanyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

My wife and I have been to the Big Island on a number of occasions, but this was our first visit to Hawi. We kept asking ourselves how could we have missed this secret little place that still emanates the "old Hawaii" charm. No Kona vog (smog from the volcano) or mosquitos and ever present was the soothing breeze of the trade winds making for a very pleasant tropical experience. The quaint cottage was the perfect place for our stay. Just a 7 minute walk to town yet still with a feeling of privacy. The sunsets from the cottage were amazing and we sipped many a glass of wine toasting the wonderful essence of Hawaii. I was surprised at the roomy feeling of the space and found the setting very nice with an element of "Tommy Bahama" thrown in. I have a sensitive back and found the bed to be of high quality and slept soundly (of course it could of been the wine)! Coffee drinkers rejoice, as we had to laugh at the multitude of espresso and coffee making devices. Hawi itself is bustling during the day with all kinds of people and activities. We gathered most of our fruit and veges from the farmers market. At night the town slows way down and found we ate mostly at Sushi Rock, Lukes and the Bamboo. After we night capped with a cup (or two) at the Kava Bar with the best lilokoi fudge ever! We highly recommend Hawi and Hale Ke Aloha. We will be back next winter with the whales! Mahalo! We loved staying here. Upon our rather late arrival we were shown through the house by the caretaker who was very nice and respectful for our space. The house smelt like cedar and had a gorgeous indoor/outdoor flow. Bed was comfy (important!), all fixtures and fittings were well chosen to elevate the whole feeling to one of luxury. Tasteful with lots of spaces to lounge about in, eat in, read and write. Wifi is lightening fast. No TV, but we survived, incredibly! There is a DVD player and lots of movies. In fact, we were so relaxed that the caretaker had to remind us that we were meant to have left one morning! We thought we had another day! Hawi is cool, pretty far flung, but pretty rad. Glad to have seen the Big Island from this angle.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 12/12

Stayed here with my wife and two kids. It is absolutely amazing!! We had our our own private paradise. Fell asleep every night listening to the trade winds! Went to the store to buy groceries. Cooked for ourselves a couple nights, fresh fish, veggies, the fruits are great. Went out to dinner the other nights. Made our own breakfast every morning. Bought our fruit at the farmers market. It was very clean and quite. There is an outdoor shower (very private). The owners were very accommodating. We didn't spend a lot of time inside, but you could easily just sit on the porch and pass the afternoon away with a good book. It's a short walk into town. Kona coffee rules! No Starbucks! Can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
