  shar, thank you so much for eveything. you were so sweet and made sure we were always taken care of. your place was so clean and had everything we needed. we really enjoyed the view and the privacy. this retreat was definitely a home away from home. the cottage was perfectly located- we loved sitting on screened in patio (no bugs! :]) and eating breakfast while enjoying the breathtaking view of the river and mountains. the stars were incredible at night- a huge change from baltimore! being so close to shenandoah national park and all the caverns gave us so much to do. we will definitely be back! thank you so much :] -stef and marcel

  My wife + I would like to thank Shar for her kindness + help during our stay. The cottage is very charming and was a nice little getaway for us. Our only bad experience was the weather when we stayed- big storm came through in the evening and knocked out the power for a little bit. Shar was very helpful and checked up on us to make sure we were ok. Thanks again Shar. We would definately recomend staying here and enjoying the Shenandoah area.

  We came to Luray for our Spring Break with our daughter. The cottage is close to everthing in Luray. and close enough to drive to the natural Bridge and even DC. Two hours to both places. the cottage offered everything we needed to have a comfortable vacation. right down to the fluffy towels. My daughter and husband loved the fire pit, where we ended each of our night. My husband and I even plan to come stay again just for a romantic weekend. Thanks for making us feel right at home!!

  We enjoyed our stay at Bittersweet! The home is located right over from the river, so you can hear the water rushing from the house - very peaceful at night! The screened in porch looks right over the river, providing a beautiful view. The cottage is very cozy. We stayed in the ground floor bedroom because our dog couldn't make it up the spiral staircase to the loft. The kitchen is small, but well outfitted. Shar, the owner, is right next door, and very helpful and welcoming!

  My wife and I gave ourselves a well deserved vacation as a Christmas persent to each other. We both love the Shenandoah Valley area. The cottage was beautiful as well as a great view of the river and surrounding mountains. Shar, the owner, is a very nice person, who makes you feel at home and welcome. A Bitter Sweet Retreat is also "pet friendly" and that means a lot to us. It was clean and comfortable. If you are looking for a quite relaxing get away, this is the place. It is also very close to several attractions such as the caverans at Luray and lots of flea markets etc. We plan on returning soon.

  We enjoyed our stay at the cottage...it was truly beyond our expectations. During the day, we spent time in the scenic Shenandoah Valley and in the evenings and early mornings, enjoyed the quiet and peace of the cottage. The cottage is located near Skyline Drive and Luray Caverns, but far enough off the beaten track to make you feel like you got away. We always ended our evening with a walk. The night stars were always bright and plentiful. Shar, thanks for your hospitality! We can't wait to visit you again.

  Stayed here for 2 nights and it was absolutely beautiful. The cottage itself was very clean and home-y. The fall foliage was gorgeous, highy recommend going during the oct/nov months. The owner is super sweet as well, and very helpful. Overall great stay :)

  Just came back from a weekend with a friend and my two little doggies at this cute place in the Luray area. From the house you are right across the street from the river and can walk right down to its edge. The views from the house are gorgeous. There's a super friendly, beautiful horse down the street whose name is "Starbuck," I heard. So my dogs' great adventure this trip was meeting and going nose to nose with a horse for their first time! We split our time between just hanging out around the house and driving into the "big city" (town) of Luray--which neither of us had been to before (other than to the famous caverns) but which is just a few miles away and has lots of interesting antique and gift shops, restaurants, and art galleries/spaces. The townspeople are super friendly, too. Our host, Shar, was really attentive and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed and that we knew how to use the wireless internet. Cell phone reception in the house was very spotty for us (but fine if you just walk outside), but with the internet access we didn't really need it. This is a lovely little weekend getaway place, and I hope to come back here again! Thanks, Shar!

  My husband and I just returned from a wonderfully relaxing weekend in this lovely cabin. Shar (the owner) was better than hospitable and even gave us recommendations for area attractions on a rainy day!!! My husband could not get enough of the screened in porch with its view of the river, soothing sounds of the river and relaxing breeze. Access to the water is just a few steps away and provided us with some great pictures. We have rented cabins in the valley several times over the last few years and this was by far the best experience of them all!!!

  Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
