This place was amazing. Brought the whole family and the dog for Thanksgiving, perfect getaway for any age group. So cozy, ran the fireplace all day. Nearby hiking, shopping something for everyone there. The cabin was stocked with anything you could ever need, especially since we were cooking our whole meal there it worked out perfectly. Were definitely going back! Thanks Shirley <3Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We had a group of eight people stay for a weekend in October, and overall, we were very pleased with our stay here. (I would have rated our overall experience as 4 ½ out of 5 if it were an option.) The house is very cozy and has a cute animal theme throughout. We spent most of our time in the living room, but we also had fun downstairs in the game room playing foosball and bumper pool. Things we didn’t like: (I wouldn't necessarily call the following issues complaints, just things to be aware of): - the internet service was useless- way too slow to even be used at all - the hot tub is in the front of the house near the driveway; it functioned perfectly, but we would have preferred it to be in the backyard. Also, its lid was locked, and we were unable to find any directions containing the combination; fortunately, we were able to guess it without too much trouble. - the bunk beds are awful. The mattress is covered in some smelly plastic, and it's barely thick enough to pad against the wooden beams beneath it. Any time you move, the person below hears wood creaking and popping. Still, overall, we had a great time and would definitely go back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Becca, Thank You so much for the great input and we are glad you had a great stay. We look forward to you coming back soon. We have nice thick mattress pads that the house Keepers forgot to put back on the bunk beds and we have replaced the router for the internet. Thank you so much for letting us know so we can get on this. Shirley Owner, Bear Hug Hideaway

I stayed at this cabin with several friends, all in their mid-20's. The cabin itself is charming with nice kitschy touches (there are bears everywhere), but we quickly found a few things were in disarray, namely the spotty and slow wireless internet and the dryer (which requires tape to keep shut and function). The location is lovely, but the neighborhood is not. We were disturbed our final night (granted it was a Saturday) by young neighbors (who had invited over Marines) across the street. Trucks pulled up, blasted bass music, and several times throughout the night, a cop showed up with a megaphone to calm the party down. The final time he came, he demanded to be taken seriously, but the party stopped only when the partiers wanted it to. I had contacted the Lodge team the week prior to ask about late check-out and was told to call the morning of departure. When I did, I was told that we couldn't have late check-out because of other occupants. All we wanted was a couple extra hours of sleep given that we were kept up all night. Rather, we had to hurry as well as tackle the massive laundry list of cleaning chores (I've stayed at many VRBO properties, and they employ cleaners that clean, rather than having guests do everything). In the three weeks since my stay, I have not yet received any of my deposit back. And I also haven't received any responses to my emails from the owners regarding their lateness on its return. If sleep and reliability are not your things, this is the place for you.Owner response: Hello Eric, Thank you for your great feedback. I am happy you Like our Bear Hug Hideaway Decore and location. The dryer clip has been replaced. We had it on back order. I will check with "Charter" cable to see why the internet was slow. They are the only game in town. As far as the neighbor cabin having a party this is the only time I have heard this. It is mostly quite because most cabins are vacation homes and owners are never there. Thank you so much for your input this helps. Thanks again and Bear Hugs Shirley

We stayed in this cabin in February 2012 and really loved it. It is very clean and well maintained, and parts of the house seem very new (recent remodel?). The location is great since it is just a few minutes from Snow Summit and Bear Mountain Ski Resorts and also Vons/Stater Brothers markets, plus The Village is just a few miles away. The house has a nice, large driveway for 4 cars, which seems hard to find in Big Bear. It has three levels - the basement has a comfy sectional and a foosball table, bumper pool, fireplace, TV and bar, which we really enjoyed. The entry level has the master bedroom which is located away from the living area, and although it was a little small, I consider it quaint and really all we needed for the couple nights we were there, plus the bed was comfortable. The bathroom on the entry level is newly remodeled and very nice. The livingroom is very spacious and the huge windows were lovely to watch the snow fall. The deck off the livingroom/dining room is very large and would be great for summer BBQs. The kitchen is very spacious and had everything we needed, including cute red appliances (toaster, coffeemaker, microwave). We loved the large dining space. The upstairs had two large bedrooms (larger than the master) which were great for our kids. They loved the bunkbeds (double mattress on bottom bunk, twin on top). The second bathroom is not pictured on the website, but it too seems newly remodeled and is very nice. The property manager was VERY responsive - the downstairs toilet backed up after the first use and maintenance came to the house right away to fix it, so it was all taken care of for us. (We learned a paper towel was the problem, so not sure if the prior tenant or cleanup crew accidentally threw it in the toilet.) We would definitely rent this home again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you April, I am so glad you enjoyed our cabin. We just ordered a large wood bear to hang on the Jeffreey Pine Tree in front of the cabin. It will be hugging the tree and looking out at you next time you come up. Thanks again for the nice review, Shirley

This home is a perfect getaway for a weekend to explore the mountains. Golf, skiing, biking, and hiking are walking distance away (the shuttle to the ski hill is just down the street). Plus...new upgrades and the log cabin decor really bring a sense of getting away from the city life. Don't miss out on staying in one of the most pristine cabins in Big Bear!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were really comfortable in this cabin. Everything was set up really nicley to make packing and unpacking and doing things really easy so we could get to having fun right away. We found the cabin really easy to get to and parking was a breeze. We were in the perfect place to either walk places or drive. There was convenient markets and restaurants to get to. The cabin was perfect to the ski lift for either driving directly or catching the 'ride'. We really enjoyed the spa on the porch and the views. Each one of us wants to go back to Big Bear and stay in THIS cabin. We LOVED it! My friends were jealous that I found the best deal and location in the nicest cabin.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Melanie, we hope you and your family will come back soon.

Excellent mountain home with nice view from the deck. In the winter it's very pretty there and the cabin is within walking distance from a major ski area. The house have everything that's needed for a weekend or a week's vacation. Very comfortable, beds are nice, clean, and decoration in the cabin is consistent with what's expected. Overall a great place! I'll definitely stay there again.Owner response: Thank you Jeff, We are so glad you enjoyed your time in our Cabin.
