Charming Cottage with Lake Views and Magnificent Sunsets
- Minimum stay:3-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Enjoy a classic, cosy, Michigan cottage with a 50 foot deck with views of Lake Michigan. It is nestled among towering oak trees. Michigan cottages have names and this one is naturally called MidOaks.
Only a 5 minute walk to the beach with no long steps. There is also a car drop off point if you are taking lots of stuff to the beach.
You can enjoy an old fashioned game of croquet in the large front yard. If you'd rather read a book there's a hammock for whiling away a quiet afternoon.
The cottage is equipped with games, books, beach chairs, bikes...everything you could want for a great vacation.
Special summer activities abound in Montague which is only 15 minutes by car. There is a supermarket, drugstore with DVD rentals, gas station and farmers market, plus fireworks on the 4th!
Fully equipped kitchen for gourmet cooking.
The area is a great place for teaching kids about wildlife. White River Barrier Dunes Sanctuary is just 5 minutes away. You'll see deer, racoon, possum, beaver, cranes, swans, you name it.
This has been our own cottage for over 20 years. The cottage was built in the 1940's with many updates including bathrooms and kitchen. It is decorated with country touches including lots of quilts. The cottage is located on a private road, yet still close to the beach and lots of activities.
You will find it has all the amenities you could ever want. Including no TV. Don't worry we have WIFI. But it's a great place to turn off the outside world of work.
The Fall colors are spectacular. If you are a biker, you'll love the deserted roads nearby that circle Lake Michigan.
In the winter, enjoy the warmth of a large wood burning fireplace after an afternoon of cross country skiing. If you're more inclined towards indoor activities, the cottage is stocked with books, games, puzzles and more. WIFI available.
The large living room has a vaulted ceiling and a woodburning fireplace. My husband chops and splits all the wood himself, so you'll never run out.
Sunsets are amazing this time of year, with an afterglow that fills the sky. Located on a private road, yet close to many activities. 5 minute walk to miles of Lake Michigan beach which is beautiful in winter. Sometimes it freezes for 500 feet out with 10 foot drifts frozen in mid-air.
If there is snow, which there usually is, you can cross country ski from your front door through the woods. There is also ice fishing on White Lake.
We have 4 sets of cross country skis, but you'll need your own boots.

This was a fun, quiet, cute little cottage to stay in for a romantic, low key New Years weekend. We kept the fireplace burning almost every waking hour, and cooked several meals in the well stocked kitchen. The winter time view of Lake Michigan out the bay window was excellent. I will definitely have to check out this cottage sometime during the summer for some Lake Michigan beach time! I'll certainly be back again!Did you find this review helpful? This little cottage in the woods was amazing. It was well kept, clean, thoroughly furnished and even had little extras. i.e. tin full of hershey kisses, pantry with spices and herbs, games and outdoor equipment for entertainment. You were very kind and helpful. You were very willing to answer any questions we had. Even the questions you had already answered in an email you had sent days before I didn't read until half way through our weekend. Sorry :) I would and already have recommended this cottage to friends and family. Thanks so much Pam and Tim for sharing your little piece of heaven with us! We plan to be back again sometime. > Tina >Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We loved the place. It was very comfortable and the house was well equipped with the necessities. But the best part was Location, Location, Location. Short walk to the beach and the Channel Inn. As someone who goes to the Ocean a lot My wife was loving the lake. Beautiful beach with soft sand. The kids loved playing in the yard when we were relaxing on the deck. If you want to just relax, this is the place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a charming cottage nestled amidst astoundingly beautiful oaks and situated on a lovely property just minutes away from a quiet swath of Lake Michigan. Our family loved our week there, and especially appreciated the board and lawn games provided by the owners. The house is in great shape and the amenities were provided as noted in the description. The owners were helpful and hospitable. We look forward to future summer vacations at Mid Oaks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Good Morning Pam, I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful time we had at your cottage! It was a beautiful place to stay and if we get the chance to do it again, we most certainly will. We loved the home, location, beach, Montague-Whitehall areas. We do not have one complaint. The kids enjoyed it too! Thanks again Pam - many memories made this past weekDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Really super nice comfortable relaxing place. Really quiet. Really responsive owner who worked hard to get their internet access working properly. Loved the Old Channel Inn just down the street, make sure you order a "Dark n Stormy" While we loved the place there were a couple of things that we wanted to note... 1. There is no Washer/Dryer. Sure there are laundromats in town but who wants to sit in a laundry on vacation 2. There is no direct access from the house to the deck. Instead you exit at the side kitchen door about 8 steps down. Then you cross a little path by the garden, which at times is muddy from the sprinklers, and then back up 8 or so steps to access the deck. 3. The parking is across the lawn and not right next to the house, which made it somewhat difficult for our 80yr old parents to cross. The doors in the house are narrow and there are a couple of steps up the front which I would think makes wheelchair access difficult. 4. While, yes you could walk to the beach, it's a pretty steep downhill grade, and the road that needs crossing is a tight blind curve w/o sidewalks or much of a bike lane. Too hard for our folks to navigate, and scary with a little kid but parking at the beach was a breeze.Owner response: Thank you for pointing out the challenges an elderly person might have with our property. Because of your feedback we no longer list it as suitable for seniors. Just so you know you can check the amenities section to see if a property has a washer and dryer before you rent it.

Deck gave a nice view of Lake Michigan. Vacation home was well decorated; even quilts on the beds. Vaulted ceiling & wood panneling a nice touch. This 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath home tucked away on private road with woods nearby gave a cozy feeling. It had every amenity we were expecting; found it to be VERY clean; dwelling showed it was well maintained in every aspect. We were 6 men who used this as a base camp to fish nearby; wonderful retreat, yet only 10 minutes from lovely towns of Montague/Whitehall. Were able to use owner's home next door to park both boats/trailers each night. Owner was great to communicate with. Certainly hope to return next April !Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were looking for someplace to spend New Years away and remote this year and found just the perfect spot. Perfect too, that for the first time possibly in our lives we didn't have a real way to see the ball drop at midnight - and that was just fine. We traded that tradition for a beautiful fireplace on a very windy Michigan night with board games and quiet. Pam and Tim could not have presented a nicer welcome with the fireplace prepared for just a match to start. The cottage was pristine and well taken care of. We could not have been happier and shall return. Happy New Year!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved this place. It is the perfect Northwoods cottage with all the big & little luxuries that really matter - big fireplace, lots of windows, terrific view, easy walking distance to trails & water, rustic style, well-equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water & great water pressure, real coffee shop only 10 min away, etc. My son is 8 & he wants to come back to see what it's like during all the other seasons (& so do I!)Did you find this review helpful? My family and I rent this wonderful cottage for a week or two every summer. The cottage dates from the early 20th Century but has been thoroughly updated. Very roomy and comfortable. The surrounding woods are magical, with a short walk down to an absolutely perfect and never crowded Lake Michigan beach. The spectacular sunset views from the cottage can't be beat anywhere. The little towns of Montague and Whitehall nearby are charming. This is the perfect place for a quiet family vacation. The owners provide everything you'll need, even bicycles, horseshoes, beach towels, you name it.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, pet owners, adventure seekers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
