Vineyard Station Ranch Chaumiére

What better place to honeymoon, celebrate a special occasion, and explore the wine country than from a beautifully furnished, well appointed cottage nestled in the vineyards? The Chaumiere, located just minutes from historic Sonoma Plaza, is an ideal and affordable vacation cottage for from one to three couples, as well as families with children, girl friends, wedding parties, and other small groups. When combined with The Ranch's Maison and Vntner's Villa, it is perfect for gatherings of up to 26.

Turn into the vineyards and drive through a tunnel of cypress to arrive at your charming vineyard retreat. Walk the flagstone path between plantings to the colorful front door of the romantic Chaumiére. Drink in panoramic vineyard views through double hung windows and paned French doors.

Settle in and choose your bedroom. One features a Paris king sleigh bed, and one an authentic art deco queen bed and armoire. The third bedroom is small but charming, with a double bed and antique armoire.

Start your day with breakfast at the unique, one of a kind glass table in the country kitchen - or the outdoor table on the deck. Play a game of bocce or petanque on your own private court. Hike or bike to Sonoma Plaza for lunch – about a 20-minute jaunt or five minute drive. Taste your way around historic Sonoma Plaza. Shop for art, books, kitchenware, furnishings, clothing, gourmet foods and much more. Enjoy the local vib. Anchored by the eight-acre Plaza with century old trees and the historic stone City Hall, Sonoma is one of the most beautiful towns on earth.

Make reservations for dinner: choose from California, French, Italian, Thai, Mexican and more – or bring home the region’s bounty from the Farmer's Market, nearby Sonoma's Best, Sonoma Market, or Whole Foods to prepare your own gourmet feast in your fully equipped kitchen. Barbeque on your private deck. Sip a glass of wine crafted from grapes grown in the vineyards that surround you. Savor dinner as the sun sets and fills the sky with vibrant color. Soak in the hot tub. Enjoy a fire beneath the stars on the flagstone patio.

Curl up on the comfy leather sofa and loveseat around the gas fireplace. Enjoy a movie on the flat screen television with DVD player. Play checkers, chess, or card games at the game table - or use it as a desk for your lap top with wifi to catch up with the office - if you must.

Sink into dreamy down between 600 thread count linens for a wonderful night’s sleep. Awake refreshed. Map out your itinerary and select from hundreds of wineries to explore from your centrally located vineyard vantage point.

Vineyard Station Ranch History

Vineyard Station Ranch celebrates the ranch's history as one of the region's first resorts. Know as 'Vineyard Villa' the resort was established by the French Rouquie family in the late 1800's. Century old olive trees and an enormous cork oak planted by the Rouquies grace this land, where views of the Sonoma and Mayacamas mountain ranges over lush, mature vineyards from The Maison are unobstructed. Sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking.

Location, Location, Location

If you seek immersion in the wine country, convenient proximity to restaurants, galleries, shops, parks, museums, entertainment, events and historic sites, The Ranch’s central location is ideal. Venture just minutes in any direction to discover a multitude of wineries and restaurants in Sonoma, Napa and The Carneros. If there are children in your group Train Town is just one mile away and Sonoma Plaza, with playgrounds and picnic tables, is just two miles. Pamper your self with a spa treatment at the nearby Raindance Spa at Lodge at Sonoma, also just one mile from The Ranch.

Make arrangements for guided vineyard tours, blending parties, food and wine pairings, intimate winemaker dinners, and small rehearsal dinners, in the privacy of The Chaumiére. Outdoor spaces are especially appealing for special, intimate gatherings.

Lodging can be expanded to accommodate 16 guests with the nearby Vineyard Station Ranch Maison, which sleeps up to ten.

The Vineyards

Owner Art Fichtenberg of Fichtenberg Vineyards, can often make himself available for vineyard tours, food and wine pairings, winemaker dinners, and wine education seminars. Vineyard designated varietals are grown at Vineyard Station Ranch in the Sonoma Coast Appellation, a specific slice of land which is warmer that the Carneros and cooler than Sonoma Valley. Nineteen of the ranch's 26 acres are planted in Merlot, Malbec and Chardonnay, grapes perfectly suited to the climate and soil. These high quality grapes are shepherded to produce limited edition wines in small handcrafted lots, all of which are consistent medal winners.

Enjoy temporary wine club membership and discounts at the Fichtenberg Tasting Room, located at The Mercato on Sonoma Plaza. Join the wine club and you will be entitled to future lodging discounts at Vineyard Station Ranch.

Your Stay at Vineyard Station Ranch

My wife and I booked this home at the last minute on a busy weekend to meet our grown daughter in wine country and it was an amazing , delightful suprise. The house was so clean, and very bright and inviting. The kitchen was one of the few rental homes we've ever stayed in that I'd cook in--clean, with light coming in from all directions. The three bedrooms were good sized as were the two bathrooms . The house has been recently re-decorated, I believe, and everything from the bedding, to the tile was done with taste. The back deck/patio view is extraordinary with a vineyard just steps away and a hot tub that is perfect. Privacy and quiet is the key to this jewel just a couple of miles from city center. We had a very small request after we checked in and it was taken care immediately. It's dog friendly! We will definitly stay there again!

Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

About the owner: Winemaker and grape grower, Art Fichtenberg, your Vineyard Station Ranch host, brings knowledge of the land, the surrounding wine country, the area’s history, and the local community, to his unique 26-acre property. Art launched his career as a grammar school teacher, moving on to become a top real estate sales person, developer, financial consultant, vineyard owner and winemaker. He founded the Sonoma Valley Leadership program and guided development of The Sonoma Valley Teen Center. He now takes great pride in opening his ranch to wine country visitors. The ranch’s vineyards, incredible views, one hundred year old olive trees and cork oak tree, make the property’s much more than simply an outstanding house and cottalge in a great location. Art developed them, as with every project with which he as been associated, including The Carneros Inn and The Mercato on historic Sonoma Plaza, with an eye to quality. The location is ideal for those who desire to stay in the heart of the vineyards. Perfectly situated in the southeast corner of the Sonoma Coast AVA, (American Viticultural Area), resting below the southern toe of the Mayacamas Mountain Range, north of Carneros, and west of Napa Valley, the ranch is nestled in southeastern Sonoma Valley. The vineyards are influenced by the maritime climate from San Pablo Bay, as well as the fog-laden breezes, which blow across Sonoma Mountain from the Pacific to the west. This location is ideal for producing the highest quality grapes. Wines are handcrafted and made in very small quantities to ensure the highest possible quality. As a guest of Vineyard Station Ranch you will enjoy temporary membership in the Fichtenberg Vineyards Wine Club and may arrange a winemaker dinner with Art. Whatever your desire may be – to cook in, dine out, or enjoy a winemaker dinner - it is Art’s goal to make certain you have the best experience possible.

                          Why the Owner Chose Sonoma:
Art Fichtenberg, owner of Vineyard Station Ranch and Fichtenberg Vineyards, purchased Vineyard Station Ranch in 1992, where he established his residence, vineyards, and winery. The 26 acre property was also home to three houses formerly utilized as full time rentals. In the fall of 2010 Art met with Pat Summers, a friend and the owner of Summers-McCann Public Relations, a company he had previously worked with, to discuss turning two houses into vacation rentals. Pat and her husband, Dave, own and operate two vacation rentals in Sonoma. Art decided to go forward with the vacation rental plan. Pat oversaw the renovations, working with her son, General Contractor Todd Summers. She decorated and furnished the The Maison, which opened in March, 2011, and The Chaumiére, which opened in July, 2011. Art is now enjoying receiving guests and introducing them to the wine he makes from the vineyards which surround The Maison and The Chaumiére. 'We are honored to have the opportunity to host wonderful guests from around the world and delighted to share the experiences and way of life that Sonoma and Vineyard Station Ranch have to offer,: he says. 'We are privileged to live and work in this special place and love sharing it with those who have the desire to come here to enjoy, learn and explore.'

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
