Canyon Lake cabin description
Perfect getaway retreat to spend time exploring the Texas Hill Country and Canyon Lake area for discriminating vacationers.
Enjoy the ambiance and rustic charm of Thula (pronounced Tu-la) House. Thula means quiet in the language of South Africa's Zulu people.
As a Texan who spends time in South Africa, the decor of Thula House is a tasteful blend of antique furnishings, Texas and South African art, a bit of both worlds combined at Canyon Lake.
Enjoy your morning coffee or tea on the deck with a view of Canyon Lake, then spend your day having fun in the area, the possibilities are many and varied to keep you entertained.
The living, kitchen and dining area have the original hardwood floors, skylights, and ceiling fans. The living room features a wood burning fireplace of native stone, a 32 inch flat screen tv, and nice of view of the lake from the south windows. Living room includes a futon sofa which converts for extra sleeping space.
The kitchen is well equipped for all your needs. Fresh yard eggs from neighboring hens are provided for your breakfast. The pantry is stocked with salt, pepper, basic spices, flour, sugar, a selection of teas, and more. This is self-catering so you need to bring your own food and charcoal for the BBQ grill if you want to cook out on the front porch or deck. A number of good restaurants are within driving distance if you dont' want to cook. There is a guest info book inside with menus from area restaurants and other local attractions and activities.
The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom and a sliding glass door allowing access to the deck and back yard. The queen bed with memory-foam mattress is new so you will have a good night's sleep. It is outfitted with 100% cotton, 500+ thread count sheets and quilts hand-made by family members.
The second bedroom features a beautiful full size, antique bed of hand carved oak and a mirrored antique armoire to hang your clothes in during your stay. The bed is outfitted in luxurious 100% cotton sheets and quilts hand-made by family members.
Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers and a personal touch not always found elsewhere. Fresh yard eggs provided along with a variety of fresh baked pastries from local bakery delivered to your door each morning.
This is a great place for couples, small families, or small groups of friends. Well-behaved children age 10+ are welcome; no pets are allowed no matter how small or how cute, sorry.
Thula House is conveniently located near 3 boat ramps, 1 public fishing pier, approximately 40 miles to San Antonio, 15 minutes drive to Wimberley and Blanco, 30 minutes to San Marcos, New Braunfels and Gruene. We are within walking distance to a small vineyard and winery open on Saturdays for wine tastings. Whitewater Amphitheater is 13.2 miles. Outlet Mall Shopping in San Marcos is a 30 minute drive.
Early Fall is a great time to be in the Hill Country and Canyon Lake area. The triple digit temperatures are beginning to fade and early mornings are cool and crisp, a sure sign that Fall is on its way soon. From the end of September to early December this area can have those beautiful 'Chamber of Commerce' days when the weather is just perfect to be out enjoying the area.
Blanco Lavender Festival is June 7-9, 2013 in the nearby town of Blanco. Tour some of the lavender farms in the area, buy locally made lavender products and enjoy this beautiful part of the Texas Hill Country.
Thula House is a member of the Canyon lake Lodging Association and the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Very neat house in a great central location--took rode trips to Wimberly, Gruene and San Antonio. Had everything we needed for a wonderful Thanksgiving cook-in. As previously reported, lots of deer and good places to walk. Would return.

Wonderful Place & Special Extras
What a wonderful place you have! Thank you for sharing! We loved the pictures, furniture and special extra touches you provide for your guests. Especially having breakfast delivered each morning! It was 100 degree's, we relaxed, went tubing on the river, and enjoyed your vacation rental.

Robin was great. She even made us a chocolate cake, for our one year anniversary. We elected not to have breakfast delivered. So we don't know about that service. We met with Robin on Friday, had good conversation and didn't see her again. We wanted privacy and she more than delivered. :) Everything was in good order at house. HVAC kept up with keeping house cool. (It was 102 degrees outside) We didn't turn on TV, so don't know about channels and such. We were gone most of Saturday. Spent Saturday evening on back porch. Lots of deer. Very relaxing. Made Breakfast Sunday morning. Had all pots/pans needed. The farm fresh eggs Robin had in house were so good! I had waited too long before finding a place, so I was scrambling. Robin made whole process easy. She was very accommodating. My wife was flying in late in Friday, Robin still met us at house. It was a great weekend. Good view. (Trees topped off, view would be better) I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend away from city. It's not 5 star accommodations with room service, but Robin is wonderful and it is a great place to get out of city and relax! Thanks, Robin. :)

Owner response: Thula House is privileged to host the most wonderful guests. I make a point to greet as many guests as possible (which is approximately 98%) unless circumstances dictate otherwise. My goal is to be sure guests have everything needed and answer any questions; in the process I meet the most interesting and awesome people, even if very briefly as I do not wish to intrude on anyone's private time. Thula House is meant to be a peaceful, gracious place to relax and unwind. Enjoy nature watching birds and deer and the view of the lake; the view is currently good and could be better as guest states by topping off some trees- unfortunately the trees referred to are on a neighboring property making it impossible for me to control or shape the view. The tv is basic satellite service, guests are busy out on the lake, the river, the wineries, exploring the Hill Country or enjoying quiet time "unplugged". Fresh eggs from neighboring little red hens, coffee, and selection of teas are stocked in the kitchen. Breakfast delivery (fresh baked pastries and breakfast tacos) to the front door is as close as I can offer to room service (this is a vacation rental home, not a 5 star hotel with room service and numerous other amenities). A local pizza shop, Parziale's Pizzeria delivers to Thula House and they make a darn good pizza. Anniversaries and Birthdays are special occasions, if I know in advance there will be something special (such as above mentioned chocolate cake) ready for the occasion. It helps when guest mentions this when booking dates because if it's not, I can't organize something special for the occasion. There are many vacation rentals in the area. When guests experience the special touches, details and ambiance of Thula House that make it unlike any of the others, they know it is a unique and special home. It is a pleasure to host repeat guests and meet more awesome people with each new booking.

Our stay at Thula house was wonderful! Calm and relaxing space with everything we needed. We made use of the BBQ one night, washed some clothes before returning home & drank POTS of coffee on that wonderful deck. Thank you Robin for making your wonderful home available, I will definately be back! Vicki

Our stay at Thula House was great. Interesting house, similar to an old ranchhouse converted into modern needs. The house had all accommodations needed for a week's visit. The owner of the property was very accommodating; she was very helpful in describing the house when making reservations via phone. You have deer coming to your doorstep almost every day as they roam the area. The house was close to where we were having a family reunion in Mystic Shores. A grocery store is within a five minute drive for any needs. It is a beautiful area and close to the lake. Definitely would return. An added attraction was that everyday at 9 a.m. breakfast (egg and meat tacos) were delivered to house. House and accommodate 6 people easily. Property was well-maintained.

Beautiful view from the back porch, great place to have coffee in the morning. The breakfast was just what my dietary needs required and very good. Had everything we needed and was so easy to use & enjoy. We went for the Radio Free Texas Rowdy Float Trip on the Guadalupe River, not too far to drive back to spent the night, we stayed 4 nights and plan on staying there next year when we go to the Rowdy Float trip. Great experience all the way around, thank you Robin for making us feel so welcome in your home & your neighbors are great too.

This is our 2nd stay at Thula House. Our favorite highlights were tasting wine at Fawn Crest Winery, the morning bakery delivery was awesome, going on nice drives, watching the birds. We chilled and loved the house! We will be back so don't you go anywhere! Thank you again Robin!

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The first time I saw this house I thought there was something special in its character and rustic charm. I moved out here from the city and love the quiet and all the wildlife close by. The location is convenient to nearby towns and shopping when needed. Watching the full moon rise toward the east in really awesome. Seeing the blue water of Canyon Lake is beautiful.
